  • I might upload a video later that describes the printing process more in depth. The yellow underneath the print in this video is a monotype. To do this, print the carborundum directly on top.
    Materials needed
    Mat board
    PVA glue
    Carborundum Grit, 150 grain
    Akua Inks (Prussian Blue and Carbon Black)
    Printmaking Paper

    Really interesting and informative. Love the immediacy of this way of working and the gestural marks. Gonna give it a go!

    Richard Dishinger developed this process in 1990- 91 at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. Check out his work; it is well documented.

    Wow! Thanks for explain so well. Tell me can u use different grits to different results , or just fine grit? What is the seize of grain?

    thank you for the lovely demonstration!
    what are you using for wiping the excess ink off the plate?

    Is the paper damp before printing, as in traditional etching? Lovely effects!

    How long do you have to wait for the completed plate to dry before printing it? What I really want to know is if this whole process can take place in a 3-hour class? Thanks for your clear demonstration of your technique! Your prints are beautiful.

      If you are using normal glue or PVA, it shouldn't be more than a 20 minute drying time. You could also put it under a fan to help. The print shown in this video was created start to finish in maybe an hour. If you live in a place like Arizona where it is dry, glue should dry instantly. If you live in the tropics, glue will take longer to dry. Hope this helps.

    Does the carborundum hold up for doing several dozen prints or does it start to degrade after a few?

    • @christopherlatil2569
      @christopherlatil2569  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You should be able to get a least 20 prints out of it. It takes a really long time for it to degrade. Unless you are wiping the plate really hard and scratching it, you should be fine. It is the surface that will give out first, not the carborundum. If you want to create a large edition, use hardboard rather than mat board as your surface. Hope this helps.

    Could any similarly grained substance be used similarily or does it have to be carborundum?

    • @christopherlatil2569
      @christopherlatil2569  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Anything can be used. This is actually a type of collagraph print where anything with texture can be glued to a plate. You can even use sand. Hope this helps.
