    It's realy very sad to have all the Asian wasps destroyed..it realy hasn't got a real purpose by doing
    So .I don't like seeing nature being destroyed for no reason at all ...to bad some of these paranoid experts would stop and think and realize what there doing may some of the people murderers should get attacked by the Asian wasp

      Asian Giant Hornets literally kill bees. It takes 30 of them to kill 30,000 to maybe even 300,000 thousand bees. That's how bad they are for bee keepers.

    As an chear alternative use a large jam jar or Mason jar with a plant pot stuck in the top. Make sure you use a pottery pot with the one hole in the bottom. Half fill the jar with apple juice, stand it in the shade or hang it up, works just as well as the commercial ones.

      Once when I was removing a hornet nest, I got a rip in my veil. Hornets and bees very good at noticing entrances and hornets started to try and get into the small hole. I was trying to stop them by crushing them with my gloved hand, and then hornets by the tens started stinging the glove .it was surreal, this sting wasn’t getting through, but the poison was hitting my skin.

      It depends on the species. The giant Asian hornet is definitely manageable. The Asian predatory hornet making its way through Europe is another story.

      You really know your Hornets! Very interesting. The media in the USA is calling them 'murder Hornets,' just bald faced sensationalism...(pun intented.) Never heard of those other ones. Do you have any videos of them? This stuff is fascinating and I appreciate your candid commentary. Do you think the US Government should hire some Japanese specialists to stop them from spreading? If so, I think it worthy to start lobbying our Congress and Senate to get off their political backsides and take action. What's your advice?, because I'm a bored retired guy who will take up the cause. Thanks Stephen. Ps, can't find your video on the swarming honeybees killing the Hornets with heat. I did see a short national geographic one on that. Perhaps that's what you meant. Do you have bald face Hornets? Got chased several blocks when I accidentally disturbed a hidden nest in Virginia.

    Is it a pheromone trap?
    I just read an article this morning that said people have only found Asian giant hornets in Washington state, but people in other states are using homemade traps, with a mix or rice wine and orange juice as bait.
    But these traps catch beneficial insects, including honeybees. People in Tennessee should not be trying to catch Asian giant hornets, because there are none in Tennessee.
    I read that in China, hornet hunters tie a string around a hornet, then they follow her to the hive. The string must be heavy enough to slow the hornet down and make her visible. And then a few local fire fighters come in with a flamethrower, and they torch the hive! Woo hoo!
    I'm working on a video about Asian giant hornets. Stephen, could I use a bit of your video?

      Alison W This comes with a solution which works pretty good year round.
      If I make my own, in the spring I use grape juice, a dash of cheap vodka. Towards autumn, banana and vodka. The banana apparently has a pheromone scent similar to bees.

    You can make your own traps...just use a plastic coca cola bottle, fill at least half of it with the liquid you want. Before you do that you should open a hole on the upper part of the bottle. It should be wide enough to fit a hose. Then you cut a small piece of the hose and fit it in the hole... of course the bottle must be capped...

    Plastic bottle cut off the one quarter to the top,and cut off the top of the contact and insert it into the inside of the bottle! The one quarter the top of the dial two small holes to attach a wire to which the hang the trap on the tree!Then to plastic bottle pour apple vinegar and a lure for the insects it was ready! Believe us when we say it works, because i use! Good luck!

    • @BeesBugsJapan
      @BeesBugsJapan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I use them too. Apple vinegar doesn’t work so well here, and it sometimes catches some the cool Japanese beetles. Grape juice, lactic acid with a bit of alcohol 🍷, but honestly the commercial traps work the best and Minimalise other insect casualties.
