@Defector I thought I heard him say in an interview that he doesn't practice anymore because of the tinnitus(constant ringing in his ears) from all the years of playing without any ear protection in/on. The doctors told him to cut back on drumming as much as possible.

Lars ego exploded after the black album and stopped practicing and started using A LOT of drum fills in the songs because it's easier than to play the real parts. Lars went down hill after, 1996. The power in the voice of James was at it's peal power from, 1986 to 1997. That said, Metallica lost its nest sound and power after 1998. Since 2005, only about 30% of their songs since then, gives us some pieces of that best Era Metallica sound and power.

Unfortunately the money and game went to the head of Lars and his ego exploded during and after the Black Album. After the Black Album, Lars started to use A LOT of drum fills in the songs (because it's a lot easier and for people who don't know music and doesn't have an ear for drums can't tell that he does this now) AND Lars stopped practicing all together.

There's only a two year difference between this and the Sepultura show you've been watching. In between Slayer put out Seasons In The Abyss and Megadeth put out Rust In Peace. These were my formative music introduction years. I can't imagine why all these years later I'm still a Thrash Til Death kind of person. No clue how that could have happened!

I am from Eugene Or, i’ve been saying for years that we NW rockers/metalheads thrash & celebrate our hero’s better than any other part of the country, we don’t stand there with our arms crossed daring the band to impress me like say the LA scene, all metal bands enjoy the NW part of tour cause they know the fans will be getting off.

The Metallica tour bus crashed and Cliff Burton was thrown from the bus and pinned under it. What most people do not know was that he was still alive when they attempted to life the bus and failed, causing the bus to land flat on Cliff again. This is what killed him. He is the guitarist here and is responsible for all the early Metallica song you know and love.

The last year that Lars played/practiced as if EVERY show was his last show, was back in 1997. Since 1997, he pretty much stopped practicing and at shows, if you really listen, he uses a ton of drum fills instead of playing the actual part. Using drum fills is just so much easier than to play the real stuff. Kinda disappointing. There are a couple of videos on TH-cam where you see, James actually getting frustrated with Lars playing. James lost the power in his voice, i would say around, 1997 maybe 1998. Metallica clicked at their all time prime in sound and power from 1986 to 1994. After 1994. It was hit or miss sometimes until 1998. Then after 1998, just starting slowly going down
