I feel bad for the blind wave crew who have to avoid spoilers from their yapping family members.
Make sure to finish this seris it isnt too long and has alot of great pay off episodes especially the last few of the series
You guys are awesome, I think you’d enjoy the rest of Gravity Falls, and if you guys like Star Trek, you’d like to react to Lower Decks, made by one of the executive producers and writers of Gravity Falls
I recommend reacting to Scooby-Doo Mystery Incorporated on Netflix. It has an amazing story arc and it's the darkest of all the shows.
React to Star Wreck: In The Pirkinning, it’s actually pretty good for a low budget Star Trek Parody
Still can’t get over how Stan refused to stand up to find the remote but he apparently has no problem going to the kitchen to get tubs of ice cream
Priorities
By that point it was already too late, Stan was hooked on the show
Sloth. One of the Seven Deadly Sins
It do be like that sometimes
@@theCRYSISgamer And Gluttony
Grampton St. Rumpterfrabble as the irascible coxswain Saunterblugget Hampterfuppinshire is still my favourite joke in this entire series. I hate that it makes me laugh every time I hear it.
My favorite is the "I heart kids" balloon joke
"Ghost harassers on the Used To Be About History Channel" gets me every time
@@Pir-o what the h?
That damn silly name breaks me everytime
The fact that Alex wrote it to mess with the voice actor only to have to do it himself makes it even better.
I love how this is a kid's show but this isn't nearly the most fucked up episode
Summerween too, so creepy
Ancient sin Ancient sin
“I’ve got some children I need to make into corpses!”
Bro the moment where Mr northwest gets the holes in his face moved around messed me up as a kid LMAO
Personally the episode with the Wax Figures was more frightening than "The Inconveniencing", due to the fact that the Wax Figures led by Wax Sherlock Holmes try to murder Grunkle Stan and the Twins, not to mention having their blank eyes signifying their Zombie State and the decapitated Wax figure of Stan.
Granted, "The Inconveniencing" did had dark moments such as Mabel being possessed by the Ghost Couple, Wendy's friends predicaments done by the Ghost couple (e.g. Tambry trapped in the television, Thompson trapped in Dancy Pants, Lee put on a Cereal Box cover where he is attacked by the Toucan mascot etc.), Dipper, Wendy and her friends reflections becoming Skeletons to represent their deaths and how the Elderly couple of the store died of a heart attack due to the Teenagers playing rap music after being banned from the store, but that episode doesn't top the Wax Figures episode (Headhunters) or even Summerween and especially those seen in Season 2 (e.g. Scary-oke, Into the Bunker, Soos and the Real Girl, Northwest Mansion Mystery).
Fun Facts from the Commentary Track:
- Wendy's friends are based off of people that Alex used to hang out with as a kid. Punch the roof was a real thing.
- Alex's biggest regret with Gravity Falls is that they never did a Wendy episode. The challenge the crew faced was coming up with a satisfying arc for Wendy that didn't betray her character.
- Mabel's possession is off of an unused episode idea where Mabel becomes possessed after wearing a haunted sweater. Dipper would've used knitting needles to perform an excision.
Where is the last source from?
@@pranksterboy8371 All of these are in the commentary track for the episode The Inconveniencing, which is included on the Gravity Falls Blu-ray Set. Alex did tracks for every single episode and they are a great listen.
@@jstarwars360 thanks.
They came up with a b story for Wendy I believe, but never found an episode to fit it in with the a plot. I don't remember where I heard this though tbh.
@@sunfurycommenting1013 It was at a convention. Someone asked Alex about deleted episodes to which he responded that they are usually deleted because they came up with a better idea. Usually, they'd have a fun idea (i.e. Twin Convention, Infinity Road Trip) but the challenge would be to come up with enough material to sustain 22 minutes.
Fun fact: Mabel refers to the dolphin thing in her hallucination as 'Aoshima'. This is the local name of Cat Island, Japan, where cats outnumber humans by up to 36:1.
That is wild but also the director of more than half the episodes of season 1 is named John Aoshima
@@schmuck.on.wheels In a meta sense, the writers were probably referencing him, but I like to imagine that in-universe Mabel got the name from the thing I said. I feel like Aoshima Island would probably be within her top five favorite places in the world.
@@schmuck.on.wheels Aoshima will work in Ducktales
The Disney show where one of the protagonists goes on an acid trip from old candy
Honestly that's nothing new for Disney. "High" scenes have appeared in many movies such as Dumbo (Pink Elephant scene), Alice in Wonderland, The Good Dinosaur......etc.
Just watch amphibia. The characters are anthropomorphic frogs and they live in a swamp. Lots of mushroom and licking frog Jokes abound.
Look, if it's clear it's not any actual illicit substance, cartoons can get away with pretty much anything in that regard.
i wonder if the "Yes. Yes, I am." was a reference to the other genius Disney animated creation of the 2010s: Phineas and Ferb, which often used this line in relation to their ages and brilliance.
Gruncle Stan slowly getting invested with "the dutchess approves" is kinda like when they reacted to "Bridgeton" 😆
There are a lot of instances of backwards language and codes in this show, like for instance that candy dog, be sure to check those out if you have the time
also reverse the intro every episode and slow for more clues......😉😁
I thought that theory of candy dog speaking backward was disproven, as people kept pointing out that we hear what we want to hear and that so long you do not have any expectations for its backwards speech its pure gibberish
@@dicerthejester5715 MUST DISTRUST GRUNKEL.........................
@@dicerthejester5715 no its confirmed by Hirsch
@@dicerthejester5715 while its true that rewinding normal speech is gibberish that doesnt mean anything, that dog is speaking gibberish forwards so rewinding it does make it say something!
Fun Fact! The show actually tells you how to solve those ciphers! Clue: Listen to the theme song of this episode backwards.
Other Fun Fact! Speaking of backwards, that smiley dip hallucination dog had some interesting insight.
MUST DISTRUST GRUNCLE!
I also love how much these reaction discussions bring up their childhoods and how they sympathize with Dipper and Mabel's dynamics. It's also so refreshing to see all the gags still land to this day.
I think that shows how much the creator put into it. He based a lot on his childhood, which means it reflects childhood pretty well.
@@emilylewis5373 Yeah, Alex Hirsch said Mabel is basically his sister
Stan watching the old ladies channel is my favourite joke in the show.
Its still so funny lmao
@@dankwave5428 that’s what I’m sayin
His frustrated shout at the end makes me think of Link jumping in Super Smash Bros. HYAAAAAAA! 😂
i think about “YOU HAD YOUR CHANCE AT THE COTILLION YOU!” like once a month it’s so good
Just gotta say, whoever does your intros for the various shows is killing it
they credited the artist and the other who made the song and intro at 0:13
I've gotta say I love the total randomness of Aaron suddenly running off-screen during the opening titles, closely pursued by Calvin. I was laughing so hard at Calvin yelling "You WILL take part in this reaction! Now get over here!"
This was probably funnier than the Renegades Reaction.
"GET BACK HERE! YOU HAVE TO BE APART OF A REACTION!" my favorite line by far
Kristen Schaal as Mabel is so hilarious. She's so funny in all her interviews with Conan.
what shows was she from?
@@theawesomeman9821 She's in Bob's Burgers.
@@ninakrishnamurthy6674 thanks
I saw her on celebrity Jeopardy the other night and she was a riot 😂
Can't help but laugh and also enjoy the jokes and humor featured in this episode from Stan watching the old ladies Channel, Mabel's Acid trip from eating those Candy dipsticks and Dipper in a Lamb costume doing the Lamby Lamb dance to the elderly Ghost couple to free Mabel and Wendy's friends.
On top of that, I love how this episode gives development for Wendy and her relationship between the Twins especially Dipper even during the last 5 minutes when she protected Dipper's reputation (the Lamby Lamb Dance) by telling her friends what happened, so I loved Wendy, even Linda Cardellini does a phenomenal job voicing her in this episode.
Lastly, the "Lamby Lamby Dance" that Dipper performs is based on writer Michael Rianda's childhood experiences of being dressed up like a lamb by his sister and being forced to dance.
Yes, my siblings forced me to do traumatizing shit as well.
"Get back here! You're gon' be in this reaction!" 😭😭😭😭
Fun fact. I was banned from gravity falls from this episode when I was little and my mom came in and saw Mabel having a drug trip😂
Loving this series so far. Can't wait for you guys to get to some other episodes.
Same. I get so happy whenever I see a new reaction in my subs.
I know right the first season is really good and funny but the second season just got better and better. I’m still sad that it got cancelled.
@@KilluaZoldyck-mk7gy It wasn't "cancelled" in the traditional sense. It was deliberately ended at 2 seasons. Alex didn't want a third.
@@_TheDoctor yeah I know which is why I’m sad
@@KilluaZoldyck-mk7gy stop spreading misinformation then by saying it was canceled.
I'm glad Aaron pointed out that the characters have 3 fingers and a thumb 2:30 , because the finger thing with this show is a bit weird, because most characters have 4, Stan has 5, and the Journal has 6
Almost spoiler
@@celestabellebethabelle7370 I think they would pick that up eventually, just don't say anything further we should be good
@@celestabellebethabelle7370 calling this an almost spoiler is more of a spoiler than the original comment
I think that they usually animate four fingers for kids for convenience, hands are hard to draw especially when it's a kid's smaller hand so they probably simplified it for animation purposes.
The fake-chase during the introduction made me laugh
16:58 that was Family Guy with Will Smith's 'clean rap'
Episode 4 made me audibly gasp when I got to the end. But THIS is the episode is when I fell in love with the show.
Same! When they were getting away with the dark imagery on a Disney show, I knew this show was gonna be special.

Can't blame Dipper for being reckless, Wendy be cute.
Earlier today a friend told me that the only reason he watched the show was because of Wendy.

Yup. Thank your barry allen for allowing this timeline to happen.

God, I forgot how many great jokes were in this episode. This shows humor is so good
I fucking love the acid trip scenes lmfao
Man I’m just gonna go ahead and say it, I love you guys. You just enjoy shit. You pay attention, you have some great conversations and you’re all very funny. I’m glad I found your channel however long ago it was. Y’all are too pure.
I assume this has been said before, but at the end of the intro there's some reversed speech, if you reverse that it tells you how to solve the cipher at the end of each episode
It is an actual miracle that Disney approved an acid trip, but there were something’s which couldn’t get put in. I mean, some of this stuff gets ridiculous.
Why.....same thing happened in Dumbo haha.
This show pushed the envelope, which I think is why I loved it so much as a kid, but love it even more now. There are scenes that are pretty twisted, and they really sell the storyline!
How are we already 5 episodes into this show? Time flies when you're watching BlindWave!
If I remember the solution to the ciphers, it is that you have to change each letter with what comes three steps later in the alphabet. A > D and X > A for example. it might be something else. I only vaguely remember it being that.
The cipher changes every so often, the correct one is played as backwards talking in the intro
@@kylebaird7387 I think it changes between seasons but not otherwise. Not 100% sure though
@@Dinosaursrecycle Nah it changes more than that. The first seven episodes were a different cipher then the ones they’re watching now
@@Dinosaursrecycle No, it changes at least three times in the first season.
There were three versions of the ciphers in season 1: Ceaser, Atbash and A1Z26. The last episode of season 1 combines all three. Season 2 steps it up with ciphers needing a key hidden in the episode itself. Season 1 uses the backwards whisper in the theme song to tell you things like "three letters back" for a Caesar code at the end (where D would mean A, E = B and so on). I'm not sure what the whisper indicates for Season 2. Hope this helps!
That Stan joke honestly is me with this series.
I love it, but MAN am I just internally screaming when you see the codes, but don’t know how to decode them.
I really hope you can figure them out.
Mabel being High from the Smile Dip is Amazing
omg they called Gideon, Gideon Malick at the beginning.
The Agents of SHIELD fandom lives on
Another episode that I forget happens super early in the series. But I'm glad it does cause Wendy is awesome
from what i’ve learned the letters at the end just have funny little meanings, a lot of them are inside jokes the creator has with his twin sister (who mabel and dipper are inspired by)
It is stated in a later episode that you might have seen already but Wendy and the teens are 15.
Idk if you guys read comments but there's no spoilers here
Two Things:
1) I don't know if you have the time or ability for this in a discussion. But you can ask someone who knows not to spoil you for a couple of the ciphers they use so you can decrypt the messages at the end since they're never spoilers and don't always have significans to the overarching plot, typically it's just to do with the one off story.
2) There are many occasions where voices are played backwards in a creepy manner and usually what is said is something important/relevant to the overarching plot, usually a hint about one of the mysteries of the show. (This episode is the first instance of this with smile dog)
Well yeah but later it's just "backwards messages, backwards messages, backwards messages!" lol
Who else wants a secret messages reaction at the end of the season?
This was the GF episode that turned me from kinda enjoying a kid's show to being a simping fanboi.
This episode also has a character speaking in reverse, which happens a lot in this show.
I love the lights. It’s orange 🧡 You guys always changing the lights depending on the show.
This was such an iconic episode back in the day. One of the most repeated episodes when it aired
Calvin said fun dip is like pop rocks and for that I can never forgive him
Not sure if this episode is scarier than the Wax Figures episode due to Mabel being possessed by the Ghost Couple, Wendy's friends predicaments done by the Ghost couple (e.g. Tambry trapped in the television, Thompson trapped in Dancy Pants, Lee put on a Cereal Box cover where he is attacked by the Toucan mascot etc.), and how the Elderly couple of the store died of a heart attack due to the Teenagers playing rap music after being banned from the store, but I can say the Wax Figures episode was scarier than "The Inconveniencing" due to the fact that the Wax Figures led by Wax Sherlock Holmes try to murder Grunkle Stan and the Twins. Not to mention most of them having their blank eyes signifying their Zombie State and one if them holding the decapitated Wax figure of Stan.
However, the Wax Figures episode is not scarier than one of the upcoming episodes of Season 1 of Gravity Falls (not revealing the name but it involves collecting Candy) and especially the Episodes once they reach Season 2.
Especially 2x3 and 2x5 and the last episodes
@@randomdude1st563 also northwest mansion mystery.
@@randomdude1st563 Even the Season 2 premiere was frightening as well
Everyone forgets how terrifying 2x2 is
I believe in the intro; at the end. It whispers something backwards. So good luck!
That is my favorite episode of season one, by far. I love when Mable is high on sugar, it reminds me of my childhood.
(!!how to decipher the code, don't read if you wanna figure it out yourself!!)
There's a part in the opening theme song which is a reversed whisper. It says "three letters back" which is how you can decipher the codes at the end. A lot of it is just funny gags about the episode but there's some foreshadowing and hints too.
There's also a brief image that flashes at the end of the opening which I also believe has codes on it too. It makes the experience more fun!
0:48 "We gotta keep an eye out in the credits, because there be Cyphers"
boy you don't know the fucking half of it
Homework’s wack and so are rules!
Tuckin' in your shirt's for fools!
1x1 through 1x6 uses the Caesar cipher (3 letters back), the next few will use Atbash (A=Z). The method to solve each cryptogram is hidden in the opening theme song in a backwards message
14:30 DETECTIVE CALVIN STRIKES AGAIN
Man I love the intro. Every time it plays I can’t help but start dancing. Good Job Blind Wave Crew👍
If you play the whisper at the end of of the opening backwards, it tells you how to solve the codes.
(also do the same for the dog speaking nonsense)
Actually, just do this for any character speaking nonsense, as a rule of thumb. They like to pull this trick a lot.
Also, please note that the solving method will change as the show goes on.
Or, you could just look it up on the wiki.
Watching this show again (even after all these times) has reminded me how consistently funny this
I miss this show so badly bro, I used 2 watch this everyday b4 school when I was in elementary school
This is my favorite episode in early gravity falls
Really looking forward to every single episode of this. Thanks
I will never not love Mabel.
The last little flash of the intro sequence has a page from the journal. Its extremely quick and takes some speedy fingers, but its worth taking a look at!
I just realized something when Mabel said "the future is in the past" she was technically right.. Time stamp: 9:00
You were talking about FUN DIP. with the vanilla dipping stick you put in what was just flavored sugar dust.
I just watched this episode for the first time. It's my favorite one so far!
This episode is one of my favorites. followed by the Halloween episode of course. Starts to show the creepier side of Gravity Falls
Can't wait for more Gravity Falls!
I love the Gravity Falls style cartoons of the crew at the beginning of the episode.
The candy Mabel eats is a parody of Fun Dip.
Y’all should play what the yellow dog says backwards in Mabel’s candy comma. 📣😮
Fun Dip is what you were thinking of. It was under the Wonka name back in the day.
Loving the gravity falls reactions!! always so much fun to enjoy a series I love with new people
Highlight of the week
Also I suggest playing the mabel smile dip clips in reverse
fun dip was the candy that mabel was eating, and i believe that this is a reference to something involving drugs being in some
Another amazing reaction and i love the intro
I'm so excited for them to get to the nitty gritty episodes
8:59 Mable getting high just kills me 🤣
Fun fact: if you reverse the dog scene he says : Don't trust uncle!
Shhh! Spoiler
I thought it was "Must Distrust Grunkle"
I hope someone gives them the cipher if they don’t want to google it
if you rewind the dog mayble sees there is a secret message. Just play it in reverse. its a huge secret message. there is stuff like that all over the show
Fun dip is the one candie you guys were talking about that is the dipping one
I genuinely screamed "It is Doctor MANHATTAN!" Right before Eric said "It is Dr Manhattan before he put himself together."
I felt Eric on a personal level right there. Kindred spirit, a soul brother.
dont know if they look at comments or want help solving the ciphers but will say at the end of the intro, you can hear a voice, replay it backwords and it'll give you a hint
Since you guys started watching, I have binged all the way through season 1.
2:31 OI, thumbs are fingers too
you guys will have to watch all the shorts and specials after you finish this show. also great job as always keep up the awesome work!

We still have that weird candy here in Ireland, they're called 'Dip-Dabs'.
It's fun dip in Canada
I CAN'T WAIT NO MORE. I NEED MORE OF THESEE

Idk if you will but you should seriously consider watching Between The Pines between the penultimate episode and the finale. It's an official behind the scenes/ interview with Alex Hirsch and it talks about so many amazing details you might have missed and is also just very funny itself. It aired before the finale so if you do watch it you should watch it before it.
