- Hollywood is facing an existential crisis, as tech was in 1999. And next week's Sun Valley Summit might make or break Hollywood studios and streamers. It's DIRE. And even The Hollywood Reporter is casting doubt on whether or not Disney Plus will be profitable this year.

Cancelled all my streaming services once I realized I hadn’t opened anything but Tubi in over a month.
YT and Tubi gives content that people like. Hollywood tells people to like their content, or they're bigots.
Summed it up nicely. Never had my favourite YT creators yell at me and call me names.
@@a.morrigan5870 Admittedly, one of my favorites told his audience to go eff themselves if they disagreed on a political issue, but unlike Hollywood, he's shown to be much better than petty insults. His actions speak much louder than one dumb tweet.
Have you seen Tubi movies. Not the best. People watch it cause it’s free with ads.

Too much politics, too many cooks in the kitchen, too many price hikes and just too many garbage movies/shows.
A quarter of a billion on she hulk. every household in the country having their own Disney+ account wouldn’t lead to making that money back.
Honestly, I totally see how politics is turning people away. After things like the 2024 debate and skibidi Biden, I’m sure many people are questioning whether or not politics and culture wars are worth the time.

@CharlesK-hu1sf Fizz Fizz......I don't think they will find relief soon.
Maybe if they:
1) Didn’t produce mediocre, politically-laden and/or questionable content
2) Didn’t overcharge for their service
3) Didn’t get rid of password sharing
4) Didn’t gaslight their audience/fans for not liking these things.
Disney, Paramount and Netflix wouldn’t be in this predicament. As much as I can’t stand Rupert Murdoch, I wouldn’t be surprised if he bought Fox back and maybe Disney itself from Iger and his idiocy.

I find myself watching Tubi more than Netflix. Let's just hope they don't get stupid and try to charge a monthly subscription for Tubi.

They didn't get too close to the sun, they got stupid-greedy. This isn't Icarus melting his wings, this is Idoitus who jumped out the window holding a broom. They should have viewed the streaming services as like cable networks--and if they did anything like D+ or Max or Peacock? Do that not as something meant to be primarily DTC but rather offered as a drop-in option to streaming services. ("Why go to the trouble of licensing shows separately when you can just get the bundle AND get this content that's exclusive to the bundle?")
Or they could have made Disney plus what they promised and actually dumped there entire back cataloge on it
@@vonfaustien3957 To be viable as a DTC? D+ would probably have needed to be only the back catalogue, with absolutely no frills whatsoever--it wasn't going to be a money printer, but it could have been a decent cash cow as long as they spent only the absolute minimum required on it.

Pluto TV is great. Lots of old shows and movies that still hold up, and some live news, for free.
Tubi and Plex are MUCH better than Pluto. Pluto was always a pain to use.
@@markmathisen3908 I just keep it tuned to the Star Trek channel 😄
Plex has too many ads. Got rid of their app.
Tubi is solid for bad movie days
I have been watching NYPD Blue on Tubi and have seen a couple of other tv series I never watched before on there.
Hollywood made themselves irrelevant with all of the reboots and sequels to old movies and almost every original movie they do attempt to make has identity politics or some other nonsense shoehorned into it that drives customers away. Hollywood has become lazy and arrogant and they no longer have original ideas and they've forgotten the most important element. How to entertain.
I'm not going to spend $15 to $20 on a movie ticket just to see a crappy movie or a crappy sequel or reboot of a movie when there's literally a vast ocean of movies that already exist that I can watch for cheap if not free. TH-cam and Tubi are both free. Get good or get gone.
I literally only use Tubi and youtube. I had others but I always just used Tubi so I was like why am I paying for all this crap?
Tubi is legit killing it while the streaming bubble is bursting for Hollywoke. Couldn't be happier seeing the tables turn for the major studio heads thinking their content was the future while society goes back to the old ways of entertainment.
I love the sound of huge fragile egos shattering.
With so many Ls on each of their investments, I'm sceptic that this will help the movie and animation industry at all. I foresee doubling downs especially with AI because they are of those who would fall for the AI rug-pull in hopes of fatten their wallets again. When that bubble pops, they will scramble again to Idaho or whatever to lick each others' wounds.
Ed Zitron predicts that A.I will go bust in a few years and collapse in the most glorious way because of just how expensive it is and unprofitable too.
Greed is a helluva drug!☠️

Most of the streaming services have good things to watch. Unfortunately, for someone like me it's like having an extensive DVD collection. I have to be in the mood to watch something that I've seen a dozen times.
Sounds like a plan. Stocked up on physical / offline media....I'm good.
It CAN'T be Highlander, that implies a Monopoly which, unless it's the board game, is illegal.
All together the market will always correct itself.
Seems like Sony is doing well for not going into streaming.
As much as I hate ads, like I did with cable and antenna television, I don't mind the advertising, if it means that I can watch it for free. Although I would like it if I didn't have to wait 175 seconds, though. But free with ads is better than a subscription.
I agree. And sometimes the ads can be entertaining. This one company named itemlabel has this advertisement for one of their plush toys, Peepy, and they have a song that’s so weird it’s astounding.
It is WINTER here LOL 😂😂😂
I watch Tubi more than any other platform... I haven't watched Amazon Prime in months... I may cancel my Amazon just for that reason... subscription
I'm a Movie Buff and I was super excited for Disney+ when it launched. I was hoping for all the classics like Black Beards Ghost, Thomasina and Swiss Family Robinson. I got none of that, now I've cancelled all my streaming services except MAX and I mostly watch TH-cam and Tubi. And those classics lol I ended up buying them from flee markets and thrift stores lol go figure.
Tubi is like your cool independent video store.
I love Tubi
Perhaps Hollywood needs a higher minimum wage! $100/hr outta fix this!
And also for JDM fans (especially Kei Vehicles fans) TH-cam is actually doing better than folks like Donut Media and Hoonigan (both buried by corporate people).
Looking at the bigger picture, if they c come together and merge with only then a few studios, what happens? Easier to control Hollywood and the message. When you have name studios, not as easy to control. Same with stores, comics, games, news outlets, etc. Make all the industries smaller, control is easier. Hopefully I won't be around to see it. It's like everything that made America awesome is being destroyed, on purpose.
I'm put in mind of a gene siskel quote from their Worst Of 1985 special where he and roger were talking about the utter creative bankruptcy of the ocean of third rate sequels that had pervaded the year:
"it used to be that the studio heads insisted that a lot of thought and care be put into sequels, their reasoning being that: "people really like fred and ginger and we can't risk making something that makes them not like fred and ginger, so we have to make sure its good", now it's sign on the dotted line and we don't care what you do as long as you spend your budget".
One of the movies mentioned was Return To OZ, which gene had absolutely nothing nice to say about other than one thing: he praised the "stunning performance" of a hen that attacked the wicked witch of the west.
What all these Hollywood execs should do is make sure they're up to date on their boosters....
I miss movies, but not Hollywood.
These people still making movies today.
TH-cam is my primary source it is like my cable or sattelite but it has waaaay more than they ever did and I can pick what I want and way cheaper. Thank you for saving me from satellite
I really hope Hulu is no longer part of Disney, there prices would drop and I would be happy I have had Hulu since back in 2009-10 when it was free and a small Internet only platform
Honestly I think the only paid service streamers that will still be around in 5 years are Netflix and Amazon and the 2nd one is just because they can afford the losses due to their delivery content. The free streamers like Tubi, Pluto, Roku, and of course TH-cam will continue to do well because people want entertainment but they are poor for a variety of reasons...
I know what they doing wrong and that is why I am doing my business right and my acting career. I know where to go and know how.
Wonder if they'll pivot back to giving fans want to boost the bottom line? That would be sensible.
That also means it probably wont happen. Sigh
this is what happens when they care more about their emotions than making a profit.

The folly of these big studios is that they, 1. Should have just put their content on the more popular Netflix. And 2. Should have stuck to catering to their core audiance. Instead of chasing off fans to replace them with an audiance that doesn't care for the product, or just doesn't exist. They got greedy/too ambitious, went woke, and now they're all going broke.
Same way with Disney with ESPN... The pandemic exposed them and if it wasn't for the "The Last Dance" documentary about Michael Jordan's final championship season with the Chicago Bulls, it would've been a guaranteed Full-time whistle and game over for ESPN as a whole...
For SEC Football fans, watch for ESPN like a Hawk... They paid too much for the rights from CBS for Saturday nights.

i do not find Tubi's ads to be intrusive unlike YTs
There are sponsor ads in YT videos now that are legit longer than the ad blocks on streaming/cable, which (as a premium sub) I find hysterical.
I like the ads, means I don’t have to constantly pause while I check in on family, dog, phone. Gives me breaks I need. It’s to the point i don’t even notice them. But I grew up with regular tv, not even cable
I have been using Ad Block Plus for years on every browser I use.
Nowadays, I mainly use Brave for my primary browser and for Netflix, I only use Chrome.
I think ads wouldn’t be as annoying if they were more surreal and truthful.
This one ad I got was selling this plush thing called Peepy, and the song was so good, I bought a Peepy.
And all this after selling their souls for easy money first.

Before you would watch a movie, it was black and white, you watch most movies, and shows at the movie theaters. Then black and white TVs came out not too long after that, like 20 years later color tv comes out, now we're on HDTV 80 years later! And now you can be entertained by regular folks at home on TH-cam. Basically what I'm saying is nothing lasts forever!😂😂 it was a good run.😮
They can still fly off into the sunset with golden parachutes. Too much money and surrounding themselves with Yes people created their hubris, arrogance, and entitlement
Binging Tubi, and TH-cam creators are giving us better content. Fan content of my favorite series, it's been doing what Hollywood never will.
I know this one series on TH-cam where the national monuments of America hold eldritch secrets, like the Washington monument is a gateway to another world, Alcatraz is a living god, etc. and the story is better than anything Marvel has done
@Cubeytheawesome I'm working along with The Xander Xone Productions here on TH-cam, for the Tales Of The Dead radio show.
It takes place during the Raccoon City Outbreak. Season 1 is up, and we're working on Season 2.
And The Keeper's Diary: A Biohazard Story dropped June 30th, doing live-action Resident Evil right!
Only problem with youtube is youtube stifles those same fans even if they make original content.
@minespatch true, but within the fan communities, we have many ways in terms of advertising: social media, friends and family, word of mouth. Might not always be the quickest or efficient, but it works!
YT and Tubi are not just eating their food for they are also pissing into their soy lattes.
Happy for Tubi! I’ve been watching them for almost 10 years now when it was just obscure Roger Corman movies and movies from the 1980s that even the people in them forgot about haha
I’m watching Tubi right now. And commenting on TH-cam. As long as they keep a balancing act with politics and stay free, they’ll survive.
@@ForceMaximus84 That is why we have channels who actually remind YT when they are step out of line.
And for Tubi, they already got some sports (documentaries and also the 2022 World Cup replays) all they need as well as TH-cam, to have a sports organization you never knew about and get a contract to be there and it's like this: Game, Set, Match.
I still don't know what tubi is 😢
Hollywood has spent too much time scolding us for things we haven't done, spent too much effort wrapped up in bigotry and patting itself on the back for it, and has run away from creativity in favor of ruining old settings and characters. It sucks for what I'm sure are a lot of decent people in showbiz, but the rot goes deep into its bones. Let it die. Let the talent go elsewhere and let the untalented find something they are good at.

Honestly, I only watch TH-cam and Netflix, and only recently got recently got into Tubi. And I've never been happier.
@zachrogers7243 I think Tubi has to have one of the best selections for foreign and arthouse movies, outside of Criterion. There's a lot of junk too, but they definitely listen and respond to their audience.
AppleTV isn't too bad either, and it's one of the cheaper ones. What I like about them is their family and kids options, they have most of the Peanuts library and frequently collaborate with the Jim Henson Company. The new Fraggle Rock actually made me tear up a few times. So suck it, Disney.

Tubi has classic shows and movies - from when scriptwriters knew how to write and the directors and producers knew how to tell a story. In the meantime, Disney has wasted billions trashing the IP they do have and making content that no one wants to see. How anyone loses money owning Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Marvel, and the entire library of ABC is just nuts.
I almost exclusively watch pre-2010 content, a whole hell of a lot of people do too, old shows are cheap to buy, relatively easy success was always in streaming those shows and movies on the cheap. People do want new content of course but since Hollywood is incapable of delivering it then you can get away with never funding any, that's billions saved right there.

About the only thing missing from this video is Prince's song "1999" being played in it!
Netflix tubi and TH-cam are laughing
Everyone is acting like the concept of value doesn’t exist. You’re just supposed to not ask questions, consume product, and get excited for more product. To those who make the content, the concept of value simply should not exist. But it does exist, and that’s why services like Tubi thrive.
Whether people can afford something is irrelevant. The wealthiest people will often abstain from something because they perceive that it’s a poor value. Everyone wants to talk about the economy but nobody wants to be held to account for not being accommodating to the realities of the economy. D+ is affordable but it’s a poor value. People would rather watch old content with commercials, or bespoke TH-cam content, instead of wasting their time with what they perceive as a poor value.
It’s incumbent on Disney, Comcast, Warner Brothers to prove their value. Blaming people and things that do not have a stake in their success is a pointless exercise.
Disney + start to sell thier series on 4K/ Blu ray to make then some how profitable, and some ,like Mandalorian season 1 and 2, and Wandavision sold very well, Moonlight too and Andor season 1, Disney accept defeat by selling their exclusive content on physical media, streaming is not profitable
The major problem with Disney plus is , sure I can watch a lot of there old stuff, but my kids are not interested in 99 percent of Disney’s old catalog of movies and their new stuff sucks. Tubi and other’s actually allow you to watch tv show and movies you actually want to watch. For as long as anyone remembers as based TV was the model that worked. Streaming ad free only works as long as the content is good. You use to be able to watch the whole season as soon as the show dropped. But now they parse out the season on a weekly basis, I am not playing for that. There are other options for people to watch whatever crap they are making when the season is over.
Good.
There's also the last thing to factor into all this. The widespread reach of piracy / third party websites. Why would I pay a subscription at all when I could go to a piracy or third party streaming site and get it for free all at the cost of an ad blocker or vpn?
My TH-cam channel is more probable on TH-cam then it will be anywhere else
