  • Steve Parente visits the Hilo Farmers Market and interviews the gourmet Hawaii coffee vendors that sell their coffee there each week. Steve also takes you to see the coffee orchards on the Hamakua Coast just outside of Hilo, Hilo and Puna. This segment focuses on the coffee grown on the Island of Hawaii, especially the districts of Ka'u, Puna and Hilo, including the Hamakua Coast.

Great video. This shows some great aspects and perspectives of the various coffee farmers in Hawaii. I'm actually saving as a contact reference one of them for making possible future orders of green coffee that I can roast at home.

Darth Rex Thanks for watching. You will drink the finest coffee if you roast these locally grown green beans yourself! I've tried it with a friends small roaster.

Steven Parente Thanks for posting it. I've roasted a lot of rare coffee (Yemen, Ecuador, Jamaica, Australia, etc.) but I haven't tried Hawaiian yet. I used to do a home coffee roasting and tea crafting business and yeah you're right the best coffee is the one that you roast personally as opposed to buying store brand coffee. I use a Fresh Roast SR 500 roaster at home. It's a great roaster when you know how to master the basic roasting mechanics. My best coffee was 50/50 Yemen Mocha Sanani and Java Govt. Estate blend, with JBM Mavis Banks being my wife's personal favorite.

Darth Rex Sounds delicious! Thank you for the roaster review for the SR 500. I may have order one:)

No problem. The SR 500 is a flat bed air roaster, just to give you an idea of what type it is. They sell them online usually for $170 plus tax and shipping depending on your location. I usually roast a quarter pound of beans per roast batch.
