These guys were kinda sleeper hitmakers in their time. They were on the radio, everyone knew their songs, but they remained a lesser known Canadian favourite. Cheers to one talented band and all their fans.
The band has been nominated for eight Juno Awards. Between 1996 and 2016, 54-40 were among the top 150 selling Canadian artists in Canada and among the top 50 selling Canadian bands in Canada. That ain't underrated NOMEANSNO is underrated
@@seanleblancdualca I think he means in terms of north american success, 5440 should have been popular in US too, not that I give a frick what they think
Move to Port Angeles, Washington where I hear Canadian rock stations out of Vancouver and Victoria every day, and now this song is stuck in my head. These guys are amazing.
I live on the Olympic Peninsula and have been listening to Canada music for decades! Love 5440 AND Jesse Roper! He will be in PA on Nov. 10th. He is so awesome!

last time they played K-days in Edmonton they turned up the PAs so everyone outside the grandstand could hear. beautiful magicians of soundscape. NOBODY can TOUCH 5440. ty fellas
5440 (1980) and DayGlo Abortions (1979) are definitely Canadian Bands who have stood the test of time. It's cool 5440 owned the Smilin Buddha Punk Bar sign @ donated to a Vancouver museum. Many great bands played the Smilin'Budaah Cabaret
Saw them in Kelowna BC despite trying to convince friends to skip the event. Had no urge to see them. Man was I wrong. Turned out to be one of the best concerts I ever attended. Small venue and they had the crowd right into it. Then when the place was supposed to close down at 2am they asked the crowd if they could keep playing and kept rocking for another hour. What a great night. I was shocked at how good they were in concert.
Took me YEARS of hearing it in the background at work or in the grocery store to catch with it Shazam and decode it's "Don't she-la", and not "Don Cheadle"
Canadian band is probably the reason. Sure its a song weve all heard a million times on the radio but its probably rarely if ever played in the states.
When i was in grade 5 i watched at school top ten videos i think it was called in Canada, and they were one of the bands i saw on there that was 1981 ! The singer lives in tsawwassen which i lived there for 32 years and didn't even know this ?

Cheers to one talented band and all their fans.
Such a powerful song. Same lyrical vibes as "Goodbye Earl" by the Chicks. Neil's voice is just so cool.
Incredible band. Always sang about truth and issues. I find 54-40 extraordinary. I wish more appreciated them and their messages.

A Canadian classic. I've seen them maybe a dozen times live, and they have never disappointed and often exalted.

Great concerts they put on!

Finer things
Maybe just nothing

You are gonna find him one day knockin¹ at your door
He¹s not the hero any more
He says baby don¹t you want me in your life
You tell him what is wrong, not right
Don¹t She La
Don¹t she look happy
Don¹t She La
Don¹t she look happy
Gonna start living
Fantasy
Maybe just nothing
Maybe just a dream
Fire in the blue sky when he hits you in the mouth
This the war and not the warning
He says baby I love you won¹t you stay
You say good-bye to him too late
Don¹t She La
Don¹t she look happy
Don¹t She La
Don¹t she look happy
Don¹t she look happy now
That he¹s gone away from here
He¹s gone away he died they say an awful way
It was attack of the heart
You have started something big
By cuttin¹ through the man
There was a sign you heard a calling
He says baby I don¹t want to die today
You say so long man it¹s too late
desiree king

Wow, this video could be so much better. It should be about spousal abuse. The lyrics are amazing, though.
