    It is interesting to see how this profession evolves in the age of mobile phone news gathering. The mobile phone cameras are getting powerful by the day with extremely high quality video. Already some big news TV channels in India are using smartphones to shoot outdoor news stories.

    • @apntv
      @apntv  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure and they do here, even the BBC use phones sometimes. The quality may not always be perfect but sometimes a phone is all you have. I remember filming something at an airport checkin desk one time for a TV show, just a few seconds but I wouldn’t have been able to film it there with my bigger camera, at least not without a lot of paperwork :-)

    • @abhijitguha494
      @abhijitguha494 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@apntv On a different note; shooting with a bigger camera gives you the "definition" of being a journalist while shooting with your personal phone sends out a signal that one is a member of the public goofing around with his phone !!!! But definitely I would love to watch the evolution of photo/video journalism with the advent of mobile technology...

    • @apntv

Most of my time I have spent operating box lens cameras on multi camera outside broadcasts. I am surprised to see you are using a satellite link and not a bonded cell device, such as a LIVEU. Is there a need for experienced cameramen doing ENG at the moment ?

    Loved the VLOG, very interesting, especially seeing the P2 Panasonic.
    I have always wondered, what is the video format for the studio cameras?
    I see you have the DVX200, I'm in 2 minds whether I should pick one up in an hour or 2.
    I purchased it 'used' yesterday but have the option to cancel the purchase because the owner wants extra money to cover selling fees.
    I already have the HC-X1 with 1 inch sensor.
    I know the DVX200 is micro four-thirds.
    Thank you.

    • @apntv
      @apntv  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      John B seriously, if you can I would try the DVX if you can before buying it. I was torn between that and the UX180 and went for the used DVX. I like it but it just feels underpowered to me. The GH5 runs rings around it in terms of menus and functionality that I have come to expect, albeit from more expensive cameras. There are those who say the UX180 is better in many respects but I have yet to get a side by side comparison. If you don’t need HD-SDI out then the HC-X1 may be the best option. Do let me know what you decide :-)

    • @JohnB-2021
      @JohnB-2021 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much for your reply.
      I have just sent a text to the guy asking how many hours are on the camera.
      If it's under 200 hours ish, I'll shell out the extar £150 to cover his fees.
      I've already paid £2250.
      I'd be keen to travel to you so that we could do a comparison between the micro four thirds and my 1" on my HC-X1, I believe it's the same sensor as the 180 if you fancy that sometime.
      I use to work for System Video Ltd in the 80's, they manufactured outside broadcast equipment, some used for the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana.
      Incidentally, I sold my HC-X1000, tiny sensor. Fantastic with sunlight or studio lights but very poor in low light (like a church wedding)

    • @apntv
      @apntv  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John B oK that sounds about the same as I paid, including the shipping. I’m based in Brighton by the way but you probably know that :-). At the moment though I am sitting on a beach in Spain :-)

      Hope you're enjoying your holiday.
      I knocked the guy down to £100 cash for his fees on ebay, I was about to pick it up (30 minutes away) then he said he was taking out the LED light with barn doors + 2 batteries.
      I said, no, that was part of the deal.
      He said he was giving me a £350 canon flight case, i told him a genuine Panasonic cardboard box is worth more if I want to sell it on, he didn't have it.
      I also told him, no one on TH-cam has said it's better than the 1" sensor in low light, no one has done a side by side comparison so I didn't know if it was better than my HC-X1.
      I told him the zoom is only 13 times with the big sensor, the 180 and HC-X1 is 20 times zoom.
      I used the whole 20 times zoom the other week at Manchester airport and could have done with more. (optical zoom disabled)
      He has just refunded my £2250.
      I refused to pay £2250 for just the camera and Canon metal flight case.
      The camera had 160 hours.

      You would be best to ask that of a news organisation, like ITN, as it will depend what they are looking for. I would expect that, if, as part of your course, you are able to gain work experience within that field, it should get you a long way. From my experience if you are able to get into an organisation and get to know people there and do well, you are probably more likely to be taken on after your course. I hope that helps :-)
