Hey, everyone. I'm the current RTA world record holder for this game (and I have been since 2015... no one but me runs this game seriously), in addition to running Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Mario 64, and Mario Kart 64 at high levels. I guess you could say I was the "forerunner" for this game. I helped develop a lot of the strategies and find a lot of the skips you see presented in this run. But these TASes... when I first found Elomavi's TASes of this game, my jaw was on the floor. I actually popped off WHILE AT SCHOOL when watching these TASes for the first time (thank god nobody noticed). Elomavi took a game that I thought I had completely figured out and obliterated it. Some skips that I theorized to be impossible he figured out were TAS-only, which says a lot about the skill ceiling in this game. His first TAS by real-time timing was over 5 and a half minutes faster than the RTA record at the time, and even since then, his work has gotten more and more impressive. These truly are works of art, and I'm so proud of how far this game has come in the last 5 years, and I'm excited for what it holds in the future. If you want to learn this game (or any of the Pac-Man games), you can join the Pac-Man speedrunning Discord (I'm not sure if TASVideos will let me post a link to that here, but you can probably find it with some searching), where there are plenty of helpful people that can assist you in learning a variety of games. We've a very underrated and welcoming community and we'd love to have you hop on board! Also, I have a full tutorial for Any% in this game (which is from 2018 but still very relevant today) on my TH-cam channel that goes through almost everything you need to learn about the game. I'll even personally teach you everything you need to know (on the one condition that you must finish a run and get a time on the leaderboards). For comparison, the real-time world record as of posting this comment is 22:22 by me. The current ideal run is in the 21:3x range, so there's still plenty of room for optimization in this category. Cheers to Elomavi for this work of art, and here's to this game's future! -SuperViperT302
SuperViper T302 I actually have this game and tried to speedrun the first level and failed miserably. I’d actually be happy to try and maybe be a casual opponent for ya :D
As someone who played this a LOT growing up, I'm very happy to see TAS stuff on it. Watching this is kind of painful because I know how stiff the controls can be in that game and I can see that every time you boost. Now all we need is ones for the gator game, pac motos, and rally x. Galaga was kinda the lame one ngl.
Trust me, the TAS makes this game look significantly better than it actually is. The controls are horrendous and the game gets monotonous and irritating by the third world. Don't play it.
I own this game, it's fun but after a bit, it loses its charm due to the difficulty being ramped up way too much, way too quickly. I beat it 100% and it took ages. I played it once a week and it took around an hour and a half or so to 100% one world. It's fun to start, but not as fun to finish. Still fun, don't get me wrong. Plus, the controls will take some practice to get used to.
This game is indeed tough and a bit stagnant casually. I will say that once you get into speedrunning it, that changes the dynamic completely. At least, it did for me.
Something I find interesting having searched the original Pac 'n Roll: This is basically all the stages of that game without the loading sections and main story. Just something I found interesting.
@@Elomavi Skips can be rewarding, but yeah, sometimes I feel sorry for whoever spent time programming a level and whatever's in it, only for the game to give me a means to say "lol no" x)
Jesus, they barely waited two years to remake this game and put it in a compilation, then rereleased the compilation another three years later. Pac ‘N’ Roll came to exist three times over the course of about five years.
Can someone explain why this run goes down the entire path in 4-4? I seem to recall being able to shortcut by falling in the DS version. Did the remake add death planes?
We're not entirely sure how the mechanics work, but Pac-Man seems to be killed if he falls for a long enough period of time while the game considers him to not be above valid flooring. In 5-2 and 5-3, the distances between various platform heights happen to be small enough to where this can be averted for some sequence breaks, but the distances in 4-4 seem to be too large, so Pac-Man will die every time. We are still looking into this and hoping to learn more about this mechanic so that 4-4 could possibly be broken in the future.
Do you happen to remember where in 4-4 the shortcut might have been? I have recently started speedrunning the DS version but have been unable to find any spot in that level where you can fall down to a lower section without dying.

Something amazingly satisfying about watching TAS brutalize a game that controls as abysmally as pac n roll. I feel years of trauma melting away.
If you think this game controls abysmally you’re a little bitch

Yeah, not really good for speedrunning.
But man, that soundtrack bops.
Yeah, that boosting sound effect won't get annoying...
6:42 should be his ledge grab in smash
Great tas content, also this game looks very fun to play

You’re not missing much. The story is awful.
Oh, and no Ghost Land. Though Golvis's Lair is entirely new to my knowledge.

13:10 Damn, that poor last world. That's some brutal skipping x)
Pac 'n roll remix adds 1 new world and every level has a major skip, questionable level design. :P

Elomavi in fairness, they also removed Golvis’s UFO final boss, which was absolute nonsense
I played this game when I was a kid. It was great but also really hard. This is *very* mesmerizing to watch
After playing this game as a kid, watching this is absolutely insane.
Man I miss playing this game on original remix version where I used to have it as a kid...
カービィボウルとマリオ64を合わせたような挙動してる…
This game looks awesome! I have to have it! ❤
Cool, this mode received the TAS treatment.
flaming fortress was for some reason so difficult as a kid
why does this remind me of sonic 3d blast...
Forget speedrunner mario and melee fox, speedroller pacman is the king of speed and dash dancing
Mom, can I have Super Monkey Ball?
Mom: we have Super Monkey Ball at home.
I wont mind that
This is honestly better
素晴らしいアクション😊
Finally, someone did a TAS of the only good 3D Sonic game!
watching this makes me wish that terminalmontage would do a video on pac n roll lmao
When the pizza rolls are done

this TAS pops the frog off
I Wonder How will a Pac'n Roll DS TAS Will be...?
Just a remastered version of Pac'n Roll
More like a half remake
Nostalgia. I wish I didn't sell my Wii with my games now lol
“Aw shit, here comes pac man”
you can like barely hear the music through out the run
Woot woot. Going to have my wife watch this with me.
Surprised Pac-Man hasn't throw up by now.
They have made too many Pac Man games. How come we never got a Pole Position 3?
How come we never got World 4?
Gotta go fast!
Funny seeing as Scott The Woz talked about this not long ago
Bro why is this so loud
He or she is literally shaking the the Wii remote 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
