    Sir Dave, I know this was 2 years ago but I enjoyed it greatly. I am a recent instant fan discovering your channel and I love your playing and attitude and heart. I’ve been playing and wrangling pedals and amps for 50 years but there’s always something fresh and new to learn from players like you. Guess I need to dust off my old DL4. Your music is inspiring as well, rock on brother. You’d like to meet the great Dave Murray, I’d like to meet you.

    Dave, You have my favorite pedalboard on TH-cam. All these other people that like to have pedal shows have tens of thousands of dollars worth of pedal board. And here you are with a pedalboard that the gear dolts would scoff at and proceed to wipe the floor with their true-bypass-boutique-nonsense-pedalboards.

    That intro is like album worthy and you just did it on the fly. The leads were just so incredible, especially the last one where it went from the upper register back down to the lower one. Its really inspiring to see how you do all that from a few relatively cheap pedals and just your imagination. The melodies and how it was full of repetitive theme felt so polished. Stupendous Dave!

    Dave, You describe the routing of your main effects pedal board really clearly - thanks! You raise a really important point that I've been wrangling with for many years - pedals into a clean amp versus the use of an overdriven front end. Recently I moved to clean amp and pedals after watching your videos Both the Marshall Jackhammer and the Guv'nor pedals have a wide range of gain, volume, and EQ settings available - deep bass and bass, treble and mid, etc. I'd really like to know what the settings are on your two pedals. Perhaps an item on 'Wednesday Questions'?

    immense and inspirational...I am thinking this is a bit like an artist taking their box of paints (pedals ) to different canvases (amps) wherever they go. I am realising perhaps maybe that is what I was doing with an fx unit I took around with me to either plug into pa or a studio desk.I think that now I am beginning to understand that focusing too much on the canvas is not what I should be doing now but focusing on the pedals and soundtools (the paint box).Wow so Steve Vai,and all the influences you mentioned do this, to create a professional or more personal sound. Bingo my penny has finally dropped.Thank you (awesome chorus sound too)

    I don't have any pedals at all because the palate of sounds I have in my head is limited and can easily be achieved with just a good valve amp. You on the other hand have a head full of the most amazing sounds and the playing talent to explore them all so having much more in the way of equipment for producing them makes perfect sense. That with the same equipment I would a) not have a clue how to use them b) still produce what I always do c) make horrible noises and d) most probably break something, illustrates the difference between the genius that is Dave Simpson and the pedestrian guitar hack that is me. Bless god for the Dave Simpsons of the world.

  • @cuddlymike
    @cuddlymike 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your pedal board is your palette : you paint soundscapes. This reminds of Hendrix, he said something once along those lines ( can't remember the exact words). You can create vibrant; resonant; satisfying sounds with quite inexpensive gear, as good as anyone; not a valve in sight. You do great things with your palette; you don't need ultra expensive gear. It's the painter that creates the landscape, not the paints. You're a very talented aural painter.

  • @chilidogswithcheese1424
    @chilidogswithcheese1424 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A quick scan of your pedal settings would have been a nice touch. You wouldn’t have to talk about it. Viewers could just pause the video when they want to examine a particular pedal’s setting.
    But that’s just me being hyper critical. Much love as always.
    As of recently, my father and I listen to your intro jams/demos all day at work. I love Jimi (check out the Au Go Go jam if you haven’t already), Rory, Frusciante’s solo work, Gary Moore, and Government Mule. But even with access to almost every recording ever made on Spotify and TH-cam, we still prefer listening to you very often. Keep the long jams comings. There’s nothing worse than TH-cam commercials every 8 minutes.

    You are an amazing player! I recently found out about you and have really enjoyed your videos! Actually watching this video I realized have have nearly the same setup/philosophy as you just with different pedals 😆
    Do you ever find the need to write your settings down or just tweak them constantly? I always worry I won’t be able to find a “good sound” I had again.

    Hi Dave, I stumbled upon this vid and the intro is a blessing!
    Even though you are using two looper pedals, I don't understand how are you getting two loops interchanging with just a button flick on the intro jam? The ditto can store two loops maybe?

    Hi Dave,
    Another lovely video, thanks very much.
    Apologies if I missed it, but where do you stand on patch cables? I'm still using the rag-bag collection that I've had in my cable box for 25 years and I thought it would be nice to get a completely fresh set for my gigging board.
    Thoughts?

      @@sadfvsdavn Ahh, I see. I keep hearing him say "I'm a creature of habit" and other phrases so maybe he hasn't changed it much, but let's see. The thing I always take from Dave and his gear is that the dials all go from 0-10 and you should try them all in every combination for your quest for tone, even if some of them are best left alone :) After all, the name Jackhammer implies something that smashes up roads with immense force and power, and here's Dave showing us that it's just the job for a not-quite-clean tone for choppy funk :D A good example of ear-before-gear!

    Would you run the Jackhammer if you also had the CE-1?
    Since the CE-1 compresses the wh10 and the ds-2 with the built in pre-amp...and boosts the clean..would it still be necessary or sound drastically different?
    I’ve pre-ordered a clone (triungulo labs CE-1 Ensemble crunch..has the pre-amp but not the chorus effect) so that I can save myself the risk of gigging with my ce-1 (much more rare and expensive now than when I bought it ($150)). After seeing your video (since I’m waiting on the Ensemble crunch) I went ahead and also ordered the Jackhammer. Just thinking I may end up with an extra pedal or two at this point. I just figured I’d keep the ce-1 for recording purposes, have the Clone (ensemble crunch) for gigging. Either way...something’s gotta happen to get the wh10 and ds-2 to stay in line.
    I’m sure I’ll just tinker with everything and figure it out. I think the benefit of running both would be to run more pedals (I have all analog) and keep the signal/tone strong and undrained.
    May look into the Zoom G2 and also the ditto. I have a boss looper but yours seems way more straightforward to use. Also like the delay and reverb you’re getting from the Zoom and I probably would have the ditto also in the chain since I’m playing through a deluxe reverb ‘68 reissue at the moment.
    I’ve loved the delay modeler since ‘don’t forget me’ and will look more into it.
    Anyways...hands down you have the most informative, affordable info out there. My goal isn’t to sound like John in the end...I just really prefer his Wah and Lead and Clean sounds to most players.

    • @thedavesimpson
      @thedavesimpson  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure as I've never tried the CE1. John doesn't get all the compression from the CE1 though. It mainly comes from his amps. :)
