If I had the money I’d buy that old Ford just to have it and preserve it. My Grampa worked for International for years and years. Love the old 444’s and how they sound.

Bill that Dodge with the Cummins will perform fine with that trailer. The only thing I'd advise is get a fuel pressure gauge on it, And keep a extra set of fuel filters for it in the trailer. Today's fuel is the only issue you'll have with it. A good friend has a 2017 that looks just like it. And pulls a 48' Aluminum 4 Horse with living quarters on 3 axles. And they've had it out West in the Rockies (Montana-Co.,Wy) and had no problems with it. Congratulations on the new addition.

You made the right choice. I’m a ford guy, but, when it comes to pulling heavy and a lot??? There’s no substitute for a Cummins, period..
The more weight, the taller the hills, the more it giggles…

LOL,, hey there, go EZ on our little buddy Billy, if you've hung pictures or plaques for tha Wife most likely ya (and ME) did exactly what Billy did. Now we've a hole that will no longer hold those little plastic inserts! We were left with making a choice, either move the wall hanging (fix it when ya move the hanging somewhere else 'cause tha Wife wants it moved!) or fix the wall and go back to square one tomorrow. Miss Vickie nailed the right answer, hold the hanging up to where you want it hung, make a tiny pencil mark at the 2 top corners, measure the mounting stuff on the back of the hanging, measure down from the paneling lines and make marks - do it twice,, then drill the holes. If the hanging is small enough a guy can lay the hanging on a paper, rub the paper where the hanging hardware is in essence making a transfer, then tape it to level and plumb the wall and drill thru the paper. It works every time. :)

Sooner or later it won't start and the first place to look at is the HPOP, injector O rings, icp, ipr, and the I'm there is a couple others but those are the main culprits when ever the time comes. I've worked on alot of those and they run good until the act up. I hope you don't ever run into any issues with it ever but sadly they make everything not to last anymore.

We had a Ford F550 like that as a tow rig where I used to work. It broke down on a cross-country trip and a Ford dealer in UT or CO ended up replacing everything but the motor. You have to pull the cab to do any serious service work on those trucks. I think the guy driving on that trip stayed with the truck for more than two weeks and by the end he was helping the techs get it back together just so he could get home.

He bought it at the dealer just a few yrs old and he ran it all the way to 300,000miles without any major problems and would still be driving it but the cord for the block heater shorted out and caught the truck on fire. Nice rig ! One thing to check, and unfortunately I speak from experience, drive your Dodge & trailer into an uneven entry, like over a culvert, lower than the road surface, at an angle. Watch how the truck articulates before the trailer & watch bed rail clearance. My issue was with the newer trucks having higher bed sides & older trailer having short pin...you guessed it...destroyed a bed side & front of the trailer before I got out of the driveway...too excited bout the new truck & forgot to verify clearance...

Y'all are gonna be happy with the Cummins
I have a 03 Dodge with the 5.9 Cummins/6 speed manual and it's got 450,000 on it, only injectors and clutch has been replaced.
Just hope the automatic in your Dodge don't give you any problems. I can change a clutch but auto's have to go to someone that does that every day.
    God bless y'all!👍

Oil supply and return lines on 7.3 turbos need upgraded, stock lines will burn the truck down but it's something simple

That intro was HILARIOUS!! You will love that Dodge Cummins. I use to have a 91 Chevy dually with a 454 pulling a 28ft 5th wheel RV in the mountains of Colorado. Then a Dodge with a 3 axle RV BLEW MY DOORS OFF! Very impressive!

Don't give up on the 7.3! They make tons of power with some upgrades! Almost bullet proof! Some fuel system upgrades exhaust intake and a tune and it'll double the power! If u can get it for a steal! I've built quite a few and never been disappointed! The emissions will be a headache on the cummins if u don't get rid of them.. I mean make sure they are in perfect "working" order! Lol ull get way better fuel economy and power that way!

I have a Freightliner FL 70 Sport Chassis 4 door for sale but you already bought the Dodge. Ford 7.3L is a good engine, no power and the transmission is the fail point. The 454 will pass everything but a gas station but I melted the exhaust off my old dually coming out of Cincy from Lawrenceburg Indiana pulling a 45' enclosed trailer. 😁 It was time for the upgrade Bill, enjoy.

Had tons a great luck with my 06 5.9 w/ 6sp g56. Not a fan of emissions or autos of that era. One of mine has 400k the other has 250. Never opened them passed doing a set of injectors. Leave it stock with straight pipe. Bulletproof! I pull a 48ft with them for a living

Take care of your vision Mr. Bill. It's a pain in the keester, but we all have to go through it. Billy's gonna have to be next. I've seen the way he squints from time to time. I used to do the same. Glasses or contacts shouldn't matter, keep your eyesight as best you can. Best of luck to y'all this weekend, wherever that may be.

Hi Bill I new that 7.3 wasn't going to get it. I have 1991 4x4 f350 tow truck 7.3 IDI non turbo. That damn thing won't die. Always starts and goes. My Freightliners have cummins and cat. the cummins pulls the best. I always put about 8 oz power service and just 1 once of ATF in my fuel the filters last a lot longer. Don't go to mom and pop fuel stations for fill ups good chance you will get water in the fuel.Get some CB radios when in bad cell areas.10-4 Good Buddy!

Cummins is a great tow pig. Just gotta debadge it and design a SRC wrap or at least a window sticker so you can write it off as a business expense.

It’s the lift pump. When the lift pump takes a shit, you’ll quickly drain the fuel bowl and it’ll do exactly what’s happening to ya. Easy fix.

Old Man I’m Ford to the core but even I won’t buy the Ford diesels that we’re early 2000’s. Now don’t get me wrong, that 7.3 is bulletproof, but when you start having fueling issues on those, you’ll be chasing your tail. When one thing goes bad you can count on their being something else & something else & something else & so forth. Your gonna LOVE the Cummins, specially if you put a programmer on it. Just remember one thing, you don’t really need anything above tow-tune or you’ll risk blowing threw the trans. Only real problem I’ve encountered with the Cummins is the fuel we got these days. Idk how many injectors, and tubes in the heads I’ve changed over the last few years.Yall bought the best truck for what you guys do, your going to be MIGHTY HAPPY💯👍🏻💪🏻👍🏻💯

Watch the clearance between the bed and the trailer. It’s easy to crush the tailgate and sides with the trailer going over railroad tracks or steep grades. The beds on the Rams are very tall. I had the same truck and learned my lesson. 7k later.

  • @gailtaylor1636

There are very fine screens in the fuel sending unit in the tanks. Take them out and throw them away. Plus you need a scanner to watch mass fuel desired to see if the injectors are flowing properly. These are NOT like an old tractor diesel. Much closer to the LS. AutoEnginuity has a Ford bundle for $400 that is great on these. But I'm only halfway thru so probably wasting my time. And 100HP tuner is plenty. Ford Diesel Certified Technician here...
