3D Printed Roller Coaster Assembly Timelapse

  • This video outlines the top level assembly of my second fully functional 1:35 scale launched roller coaster. I'll be sharing a final video in the future demonstrating the ride's functions as well as some clips of both trains navigating the layout's various elements.
    What this timelapse does not show is the hundreds of hours of 3D modeling, design iteration, troubleshooting, 3D printing, and post processing that went into this year and a half build process.
    For a more in depth look at the design cycle and other 3D printed roller coaster projects, check out my website at www.3dcoasters...

      @@Zogoliththat is a completely different model. It's shorter and a full circuit. This one is a shuttle.

    omg I love your stuff!!!!! I would love to see you make a hyper coaster like shambarlla or a top hat like red force with working lsm launch, also im struggling to find any tubing for knex the old style of coasters. you got any links to that tube you use you can send me ?

    • @3d_coasters
      @3d_coasters  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Maybe one day, lsms at this scale would be quite the challenge. For rails, I just use 4mm ptfe I get in 10m lengths off Amazon and cut it myself

      @TheKnexMaker ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@3d_coasters wow, I looked up 6mm ptfe for knex sizes and it's expensive.

    I’m wondering where you earned the technical skills to make something like this. I’m assuming you went to school for mechanical engineering. I’m in my third year of an aero/mechanical degree. I still have zero exposure to CAD programs other than a high-school class. Building model roller coasters like this is my dream. I plan on doing this sometime in the near future.

    • @3d_coasters
      @3d_coasters  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve been 3d modeling since high school and graduated ME a couple years ago - would definitely recommend picking up a CAD software! It’s a bummer colleges don’t push it more, I only had a one semester class on it. There’s a coaster modeling/printing discord if you’d want to join for when you start building your own? Shoot me a message on Instagram if you’d like the link

    • @Tiggs_

    • @coolcoastercreations7680
      @coolcoastercreations7680 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@3d_coasters Did you cut slots in the tubing where there were cross ties, or did you cut a slot through the whole tube?

    • @jasonkloos6348
      @jasonkloos6348 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Tiggs_I'm assuming, as I've seen others do it. But you 3D print a blade holder that you run the tube through.

    Hi! Do you have/know a tutorial on how to make the carts (and especially the wheels)? I am trying to make a coaster for my Lego park but I can't figure put a way to do wheels! I really need some help here. (Ofcourse these wheels don't have to be made with Lego I'm not crazy lol)

    • @jasonkloos6348
      @jasonkloos6348 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1. Learn how to 3D model.
      2. Learn how coaster bogie's work. There's quite a few different styles. But you want each set of wheels to have as much freedom of movement as possible.
      3. Buy a 3D printer and print the bogie's parts.
      4. Buy some incredibly small, unshielded bearings. Then clean all of the grease out with an ultrasonic cleaner.
      5. Assemble.
      Best of luck. I have all of the above and 4 kids, so maybe in 10-15 years I'll have the time to upload my own stuff like this 😂
