Did anyone else notice that after Piper got her exploding power she rarely used her freezing power again only like a few occasions after. And I know that the exploding power is more offensive especially when fighting demons everyday but I still wanted her use her other power as well.
Right?! Like, I get at first she didn't want to run the risk of blowing anything up, but once she got a handle on that it's almost like she forgot her original power altogether!
Omg this annoyed me sm! Like her power WILL NOT grow unless she uses it. Makes sense why her next power was molecular acceleration rather than an advanced form of immobilization.. smh. I think the reason she didnt use freeze as much was mainly to show her as a huge threat like prue. Especially with wyatt. Another possibility is that she knew from Shax (or other immune demons) that not all demons freeze. However even if demons dont get vanquished from her combustion *coughs* shax *coughs* they still poof away until they can regenerate again. Source is another example but his reconstitution was way faster and immediate.
An exception to this is with harpy when she said "she was immune to my powers" but yet she still kicked harpy so well. Sad we never got that many combat scenes with her. But as I was saying, demons can fully be immune to powers periodt, meaning she would be weak against them. However she would still be able to freeze their blasts that come towards her. AN AMAZING EXAMPLE OF THIS is when piper was super dependent on combustion was when in season 8 they were fighting the triad, and when one of them threw a fireball at piper and paige what did piper do? COMBUST IT and exploding the fireball and that caused it to explode near them. I hated this so much. Even if the fireball was too strong (say it would only decelerate) it would still be slowed down given them time to avoid it, but nooo.
Piper‘s power has always made sense to me freezing time to me is like slowing time down to the point where people freeze in the contained space where Piper is at least in the beginning because like you mentioned in the video in morality bites she can freeze everyone outside. On the other hand blowing things up makes sense to me because it’s speeding time up so much that things explode and with your example of the clock don’t forget that one of the first things we see Piper explode with her powers is a clock. She was in such a hurry that she sped up time for a clock to explode.
Ooh, I like that! I never thought of her explosion power as speeding time up to the point where things explode, but I feel like this should have been the canon established in the show! (and speaking of clocks, there was also a clock behind Piper in some of the season two promo photos, the ones with her in the light blue top!)
@@weirdlybeloved thanks for the reply and the pin I’ve loved charmed ever since I was 12 I’m 20 now and you are one of two channels that has rekindled my love for the show. You just earned a new subscriber.
@@weirdlybeloved well when she travel away further to the future with Prue Piper her freezing powers was supposed to grow more so she could put freeze everything but it did not happen so probably like she said in another decade her powers growed even more stronger
Another way of speeding up time is similar to how the evil version of paiges fake boyfriend from the spell she cast (forgot his name sry) had the power to rapidly age his minions. It's possible this was an extension of the ability to control time? But since demons powers are mostly random it didnt suit him. For piper however, rapidly speeding up time on a certain object or person would have made her extremely powerful. From immediately rotting a fruit, to turning people to ash.
My theory was that the girl's secondary powers were from the Power of One they used to fight abraxas. So when their powers grew they each tapped into another sister's powers. blowing things up by speeding up molecules and levitating seem like forms of telekinesis, and astral projection seems like a version of phoebe's power to see things in another place. That'a what i thought watching it but it never really developed into anything. Paige has prophetic dreams when the titans attack i guess
That's a really interesting theory, actually! The triquetra literally represents them working as one, and they've also swapped powers at different points in the show, so it wouldn't be all that surprising if they could tap into each other's powers! Especially if those particular powers only worked when they were around each other, to tap into the Power of Three!
Paiges version of pipers power would be orb scattering . she gains this in the comics and chris did something something if not this exact thing in season 6. And phoebes version of pipers combustion power would by physic reflection. Literally frying brain cells.
Oh you're totally right about the creative changes along the seasons, it shows. It started to get a lot more airheaded male gaze-y, and the thread of Constance's "the show is about sisters who happen to be witches, instead of witches who happen to be sisters" became simply "sexy witches" by the male execs. And then when they gave Holly EP control, it got even worse because her character was so enraged constantly. Show definitely devolved randomly, it's a pity!
Right?! I never liked the episode Ms. Hellfire because the whole episode was just waaaay too sexual for my taste, but little did I know that was what the whole show would become in just a few season's time.. it's a shame what happened to Charmed, it had such potential. And poor Constance.. I can't imagine how she felt watching the show she created turn into a sleazy parody of itself.. I mean, really.. "Phoebe" giving Cole a lap dance and riding naked on a horse? Just.. ugh.
The show was terribly sexual. The first 2 seasons were atleast balanced and had modest but very cute clothing. I'm not sure but I swear I once read somewhere that Alyssa absolutely hated wearing the mermaid costume. Constance would have nailed the show so well. It was wasted with brad kern. I dont entirely hate him, but would change many things abt the seasons.
😱 OMG THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! In regards to P. Baxter (who holly plays in pardon my past) and her power of "molecular deceleration" it's legit like NOBODY even listen to the scene when P.Russell asks the Warlock Anton what he will be doing while she distracts P. Bowen in which he replies "by FIGHTING THROUGH HER POWER and posing as her former lover" what happens when a character is to powerful and is able to break though Piper's freeze. 🤔🤔🤔 But some they came up with the "weaker version of molecular immobilisation" and it went as far as one of the children of the charmed ones in the comic books has that power SMH
Thank you!!!! I thought I remembered that Anton explicitly said somewhere that he was fighting through P. Baxter's power, but I couldn't remember where! I wish I had though, because that would have helped soooo much in previous videos since it all but disproves the 'molecular deceleration' theory! I'm not sure why some people are so determined to force this molecule thing into every aspect of Charmed they can, but it's kind of sad that you can't really have a conversation about their powers these days without it coming up. It's like.. this is Charmed, not The Big Bang Theory! 🙄
I think my main problem with Piper's combustion power is how it effectively removed a lot of the stakes after a while. She could pretty much just one shot a lot of the demons that attacked.
@@weirdlybeloved It wouldn't really be that bad if later seasons actually had some variety when it came to what kind of magical antics happened each episode instead of endless demon attacks.
Oooo I love this subject in a debate/ brainstorming way. I am a perpetual fence sitter and can always see the pros and cons to all sides. So I agree with the point if the video. But I also think those in charge changed it for Pipers power because we learned more in science and physics that Time may not actually be a thing. Like math is not a thing. They are constructs and perceptions. Concepts we make by sensing and measuring, analyzing and existing. Time isn’t like water or gravity. Though it’s more similar to gravity than it is to a physical object. Time is relative to where you are in space and the gravity around you. Time is literally the distance and speed at which objects move through space. So it’s kinda semantics. It could be argued that stoping or freezing molecules is also temporal stasis. The slowing stoping or speeding up the motion of all molecules in an area would stop or speed up the effects and perception of time passing to those molecules. But I do like the Distinction that the power or energy she emits is interacting with physical and atomic structures not forces and laws of the universe. And honestly philosophically speaking all three aspects are inter related and deals with the observing, interacting, and manipulating the world and matter and energy at a molecular and near quantum level. To move an object is to move its particles, which means you can stop said particles or speed them up, and if you take it deeper to psychokinesis and senses then if you can move anything and everything anywhere with will and mind alone then you can move your own senses, your own molecules, your own energy and that of other living things to anywhere at any speed and at any point in space time. So you would only be limited by both your own senses and imagination. But you’d be able to do all the sisters did, even Paige’s Teleport. And if you pulled a Phoebe and do that learning knowledge with a touch thin she did and read biology books and medical and physiology and anatomy books? You’d be able to manipulate the speed of motion and replication of living cells and DNA. This really could go on forever!! Lmao I’ll stop here!
Piper's powers are two forms of molecular manipulation. She can either slow molecules down to the point where they appear frozen or speed them up to the point where things explode.
Another comment actually had a very interesting point about how her power could be speeding up time so fast that it explodes (especially since the first thing she blows up is a clock after being frustrated at waiting so long) so I think that would make a lot of sense as well!
@weirdlybeloved I like that idea, it sorta implies something about the instability of the future, like how all the futures they've seen are mostly or totally inaccurate
As you can tell by the comment section A LOT of fans are hung up on the molecule thing. However I agree with you, it was ONE LINE used to explain Pipers time freezing ability. The show refers to it directly as “stopping time” or the “power to freeze” or “freezing time” just because it works on the molecular level does not mean she’s not controlling time.
Right?! That's exactly what I think the show was trying to say ~ that it's still a time controlling ability, they just explained how that works. I don't think it was ever intended to become this whole every-power-is-a-form-of-molecule-manipulation thing, but here we are. I mean, don't get me wrong, I get the comments where people are explaining why they personally think the molecule thing makes sense, especially when they say that they do understand why others don't agree with it. I think that's very understanding and respectful.. but then there are the comments that essentially say 'oh, you're wrong and here's why,' and reiterate the same points I mention in my video using the same - if not more confusing - terminology, and it's like.. aren't you.. kind of proving the point I was trying to make, though? 🤔
Pipers power has always been referred to as freezing time until season 3 (when constance left) where they said her power was molecular based. It's possible that if constance was there for season 3, Piper would have gotten the power to actually manipulate time itself and eventually gain the ability to freeze a large variety or area. For example, the angel of destiny in season 4 froze everyone and it was referred to as temporal stasis similar to how Piper froze everyone in season 2 in Morality Bites so it could have been a nod to what Pipers powers could have been. There is a chance she could have gotten the ability to manipulate time aswell such as reversing it, travelling through it and controlling it. Similar to how billie went back in time but without the use of projection. I feel like the only reason they gave her molecular combustion was to give her some form of offense rather than her being a defensive sister like Phoebe. But since both prue and phoebe knew how to fight well they decided to give her powers a hit. Literally.
Omigosh, you're so right! And I would have LOVED to see Piper learn how to reverse time! That would totally fit her character, and even could have saved magic from being exposed! Oof.. I really can't get over how much that makes sense for her character and powers.. would you mind if I rewrote some of the Rewriting Season 4 video to include that power? I would be happy to credit you!
By Charmedverse standards, no one in the 1600’s, as with rl, knew about molecules. So stopping them is like an optical illusion for the time power. Scattering is a molecular based teleportation. We’ve seen different appearances before, and I personally like the appearance in Little Box of Horrors (Pandora’s Box ep). Phoebe’s future power as long been fan named as Electo-Mental Ignition. But the comics calls it Psychic Reflection. I know u the poster don’t like the comics, but bear with me please 🙏🏻. It allows her to project emotions, just as she feels them. Pull can now push.
Totally agree with the whole molecule thing also It always seemed off to me that in the beginning Piper power was to essentially stop time then all the sudden she can blow stuff up idk it just for me seemed like they tried to merge two different powers together to me prue astral projection Power was the only advancement that made sense but what didn't make sense was her past life's power I feel like they should have given Piper that power considering a season later Piper turned Leo into ice and how did Phoebe's past Life get fire power the only other time she had that was when she was pregnant and even then it came from the baby and Paige how come she never got a power upgrade the others girls did twice if you count their past life's all Paige could do was orb and she only healed two people despite being part white lighter also if she's half witch like Chris wouldn't she have the same powers he did cause I remember in season 6 in the episode titled my three worlds he had the ability to merge two of the three and let's not forget when he killed that valcury and future whyatt had the ability to implode people organs cause didn't he like choke Bianca
@@MartinWhatley-b6r I think witches can develop powers outside of their family's nature. Wyatt's Projection is altering reality just like Billie's. And none of the Warren line have reality based powers.
It made more sense that her Powers are Molecule based when you consider good witches are Immune to that Power unlike Temporal Stasis which is a higher Power only possesed by very strong beings no witch or demon is Immune to that power...back then Melinda thought its stopping time only because she had no idea about Molecules...
Fair point! I definitely do think that's how her powers work, especially considering you're right about how they work differently than true temporal stasis! I just think we should still be allowed to refer to it as stopping/freezing time if that's what we prefer to call it, you know?
Tbh I'm not even sure how powerful temporal stasis rlly is. Many evil beings such as the warlock from the past (when paige traveled back to Penny's time with the boots) and candor from the triad had this power, and yet never used it in a fight. It seems as this ability makes time itself stop entirely and so if ppl were attacked while in temporal stasis they would be invincible? Considering this is not a molecular ability but it stops time itself. Similar to how pipers ability freezes blood, this ability freezes everything entirely? This is just a theory tbh and this ability was never used well at all.
For melinda phoebe said that in the BoS she could "move things with her mind, see the future, and stop time" we know the halliwell line runs from the Warren one however it never specifically states what powers they are. Moving things with ur mind can mean many things. A great example is paige. Even tho she was half whitelighter she still technically moves things with her mind (channeled from her hands) in a more teleportation form. Same can be said for past ancestors. The entire halliwell line is connected to those 3 specific powers. Just like penny, patty, Brianna. Those 3 had the basic powers like telekinesis and molecular immobilization (freezing). P baxter was a good example. Even if she had immobilization OR deceleration it's still tied to the warren powers overall. When piper turned into a warlock she got "molecular inhibition" which FROZE the targets molecules. This technically stops them from moving. And when phoebe turned into a warlock, she gained telekinesis. Although not tied to her power it's still an ability that uses the mind and a Warren power. Their blinking power could also be a part of it or it's just a regular warlock power but they technically move themselves with their mind as they said "just think and blink". These are all just theories tho.
Giving piper the power to wilt would have made sense with her power of freezing time but would have made less sense with her character progression as the anxious and stern matriarch figure of the family
It was always fun to watch Piper use her powers. The original or the upgrade at the end of season 3. When the show referred to it as freezing time, I liked it a lot. Even so, I enjoyed Leo's explanation to the upgrade, since I'm always seeking some sense in this kind of stuff. For me, there is a big difference between freezing time and slowing down or stopping molecular movements. I think time freezing affects the targets' connection to the constant time flux we all live in. When you consider that, a power like this is extremely strong. By contrast, to stop molecules just from moving, mimicking frozen time, seems much more appropriate for a witch power. By the way, I really like your videos. Please show us more of them. You're amazing!
Thank you very much! I'm glad you like the videos! And yuss, Piper was so fun to watch! That's why I made sure to include her unfreezing Bane in Ms. Hellfire, because I love the way she twiddles her fingers to unfreeze him! ^^
I kinda like the “retcon” they did with piper powers. Any power controlling time is op and piper had way too much rules concerning how her power works.
im super on board with her having time freezing powers. theres too many retcons and mistakes in the show to take one throw away line seriously after there being so many lines where they call it freezing time. also if you do think of it scientifically then it would have to be freezing time. because if she did stop molecules then they would freeze into ice since cold happens when molecules slow down. but if she froze a field of time then it would work like this. maybe her exploding power just works by speeding up the time of each molecule. that way you can get both answers and everybodys happy!
Even though the Molecular aspect is interesting and was a pretty decent excuse to make Piper the strongest since Prue would eventually be killed off, so they needed an offensive power in some way, I stil think that freezing time is a much more fitting concept for the power. It works both for Piper's personality as a whole but also because of how it's portrayed everytime it's used. The power literally makes the background music and sounds stop when activated, and even the activation and deactivation sound effects seem like something slowly stopping and returning back to movement again, you know? Like an clock. And my problem with this molecular manipulation thing is that when you search for this power on the powers wiki you can see an enormous quantities of things you can do with this power, like reversing them as a whole, which could still pretty much fit into the concept of controling time! The explanation for the explosion power could have been that you could literally make things explode by making time go faster in minimum seconds, but anyway, at least it wasn't entirely inconsistent 😅
Right?! It just makes so much more sense, especially - as you said - for Piper's personality! When her power was simply the 'power to freeze time,' she was, as Patty says, the heart of the family. The one who is the most generous and giving of the three, and hates to hurt anyone. But I feel like once they gave her the exploding power she really started becoming a whole different (and also worse) Piper, constantly complaining and becoming more and more ruthless, and I can't help but wonder if that's partially because the writers twisted her powers and therefore Piper herself? 🤔
@@weirdlybelovedLol! I know! And I do think she started to become more assertive and quite 'explosive' as well, sometimes in situations were she shouldn't exactly be. The power of freezing time was more fitting for her as well, because from all the sisters, she was the most anxious in most situations, so it made sense that she would want everything to stop so she could calm down and think. But as molecular combustion came in, she just became more assertive but sometimes too much passive-agressive, specially with Leo. It just seems the writers and even Holly herself kinda forgot the fact that Piper's character was also supposed to be the heart of the family, not the nuisance haha
@@Niko-qq2vr Haha, great point! Yeah, I much prefer the old Piper to the new one.. it's such a shame to see what the writers did to her character.. as you said, especially with Leo! Oof, I don't even like Leo and I still think she was downright ridiculous towards him sometimes.. like that time he cleaned and organized the attic because she's always complaining how messy it is, and then she STILL complained that he cleaned it because she "likes it messy?!" It's like, lady, you just look for things to complain about, don't you? Ugh..🙄
I used to think that the molecule thing was a reach, until a couple of years ago when I rewatched season one. In "That 70's Episode", when Piper freezes Nicholas at the beginning, the clock still continues to chime, which made me realise that if her powers were time based, wouldn't that also stop the clock? I do think that because the power appeared to freeze, it was stated that Melinda's power was time based, but it was also the 1600s, and from what we know, Melinda didn't have a Whitelighter to get info from the Elders, which she, and the rest of the Warren witches with the power to freeze, likely didn't need, if they never developed the exploding power.
Fair point! I definitely think Piper's power works by affecting molecules, it's just the way some people try to force it on absolutely everything and try to force you to use that terminology that bothers me, you know?
I never understood the confusion with Phoebe's powers: her power was mind related and levitation is totally connected to that. You can see in X-Men for instance, Jean Grey can read people's minds and has telekinesis and she can also float. Prue herself, also having a mind related power, could "move her body" with her mind and nobody gets confused. Phoebe could move herself with her mind as well. Both Phoebe and Prue had psyche/mind related powers and Phoebe even developed a kind of astral premonition later in the series too. I totally can see her levitation power being connected to her premonition power (and empathy as well).
I think the problem is that Phoebe got the ability to levitate too early. She should've gotten another power first (like empathy) then Levitation later. The way they did it, it just seemed sudden and out of nowhere.
Another thing I noticed was that in season 6 when Piper, Phoebe and Paige traveled back in time to the 60's there was a warlock that could stop time and something Piper was frozen along with everyone else. I just always thought that was weird because I thought good witches don't freeze. That's something that was explained in season 1.
It was because they weren’t technically witches then, since they hadn’t been born yet. They were without their powers. Which is still a little confusing, because Piper cast a spell, but we know from Phoebe’s old classmates, that if a non-witch mortal knows how, they can cast spells too, so I think that’s what happened
Randomly this is the one thing I don't think that bad/inconsistent writing isn't the main problem with a Charmed issue. I think they are trying to make a quantum physics play into making sense of why molecular immobilizing things make sense. In the Salem witch times what Melinda Warren did "looked" like freezing time even though she didn't technically do this otherwise all time would stop a la Hiro from Heroes but we she she doesn't effect all matter. She only freezes things in her general vicinity. It is not just a time thing though through the way it's presented in the show. I understand why the explanation was needed give that. Otherwise I would have preferred a more obvious time based extension. One thing I think is interesting is Shannen knew her powers would grow as soon as the press for the first episodes of the first seasons. I wonder how far in advance they knew for each power extension.
Stopping time would break the space-time continuum as time is the energy that keeps the fabric of space woven and if you stop it space (reality) will unravel.
Honestly that sounds like a really interesting plot line! Imagine if their powers had gotten so strong that it led to reality unraveling, and the finale of the show was them having to fix it and then leading normal lives, not only for themselves but for everyone's sake?
If Prue was alive the entire show this is how i think her powers woukd have grown: Telekinesis Astral projection Telematerialization (since she already had this power from season 1, i think it could grow to the point that she doesnt need a liquid substance to move things. It could be like tj orbing hut without the orbs.) Advanced telekinesis (seen from the future) Thought projection (this may be controversial however my theory i think that since she originally used her mind to move things before her hands why not move things FROM her mind and materialize it) She would gain these powers in season 4, 6, 8. Similar to phoebe where she got new powers every 3 years, prue would get hers every 2 years.
Tysm! I've always had my own opinions on some charmed plots and when I found ur channel I FELL IN LOVE WITH IT and just had to subscribe! Finding out abt charmed theories and mistakes are so fun! I cant wait for more videos!!
I just finished watching "Morality Bites" right now, and noticed something interesting. Ten years in the future, Phoebe is on trial for murder because she killed a guy using magic, which exposed the existence of magic. The entire world knows about magic; for instance, Piper freezes time in her future body, and while she's talking to Leo, a woman comes in, sees the frozen people, and starts yelling "witch." Now, here's the thing: didn't the Cleaners say they step in when magic is exposed to clean up the mess? Phoebe killing someone using her powers and getting caught doing it is a big deal, and on top of that, the entire world knows about magic, witches etc, and they are even witch hunters and Phoebe is being executed on live tv. So, where are the Cleaners? the cleaners should have appeared long before the Wyatt episode where he conjured up a dragon. Seems like the writers screwed up somewhere and didn't quite explain why this episode happened. Funny thing is, I never thought about this until I watched the episode again.
I agree with you, but I think it applies to astral projection too which Prue got in Season 2 when Constance M. Burge was still running the show. Ultimately, the writers wrote themselves into a corner with the lore that the Warren line could only have the original three powers. Allowing new powers was a way to keep the show fresh. The powers were a bit random, but I think it's fine. It was cool to see ice versus fire on screen. Given that premonition and freezing time would be no threat to the cousin with telekinesis, I'm glad they changed it.
The molecule thing doesn't bother me because when Melinda was active, that's how her power would have seemed. Moleculesn wouldn't be something freely recognized by people, so describing the effect as 'stopping time' would have been an easy label.
This is a weird one because time and molecular manipulation can be seen as the same thing. All molecules of an affected area in which time is stopped will be frozen in place and not able to be changed until the molecules are released or time is restored. They had the same issue in Heroes when Hiro Nakimora tries to keep Daphne from stealing a half of a formula. He "stops time" but being a speedster, is so fast that Hiro cannot stop her. Daphne explains that he doesn't really stop time or she would be affected too, but slows time down to the point of appearing to be stopped. Maybe it's just too OP to give someone true time manipulation powers, there has to be a scapegoat.
The whole molecular manipulation explanation thing feels like a way to give their powers a half assed scientific explanation to a supernatural experience. It doesn't need it. If Piper's power's were really stopping and accelerating molecules, then that would affect temperature as well. If molecules stop moving, then in that space it's absolute zero. If molecules speed up, you get heat. That's how fire works.
Giving scientific explanations for a show abt magic and imagination was a bold choice lol. Also the writers did kinda know abt the heat thing. Piper actually created fire with her combustion power a few times. Like at the end of season 8 when they were in the underworld, she combusted a pile of rocks and made a small spark which made fire. But honestly that's so dumb that they only did that a few times. AND AT THE LAST SEASON?! They were not interested in her powers at all. I loved her character sm and they couldnt match it up to her.
I’ve always taken a bit of an issue with the power progression. A part of me wishes that they kept the powers bound to the three core tenants of the pilot: Movement, Time, Mind and progressed in those realms. From a writing standpoint, it probably would’ve been hard to give someone dominion over time without making them OP, so I’m ok in hindsight with what they did. For Phoebe, her premonitions always came randomly even as the seasons went on, but again if you make someone have unlimited control of seeing the future, that eliminates the possibility for a lot of plot lines. So I get why they kept her psychic powers tamped down, even though I don’t like it 😂 And her levitation makes NO sense. That would’ve made sense for Prue if anything Anyway, great video! 😊
Thank you! I'm glad you liked the video! And yuss, levitation feels like it makes a lot more sense for Prue and astral projection makes more sense for Phoebe!
I honestly feel like Phoebe WOULD have astral projection. She already has astral premonition, and in the comics (even tho I dont like it) she got clairvoyance being able to see the present. Which I like as a progression for her premonitions. So it's possible she could actually astral project in the present regularly with clairvoyance.
As for Prue, I feel like constance wanted to give her levitation. We saw her doing amazing flips and her combat already being augmented by her telekinesis, so why not her legs? Her "telekinetic levitation" was already kinda shown in the first 2 seasons. But astral projection still kinda makes sense. We know that astral bodies are just suppressed self consciences of ppl and they open up when they project. So u could say she moved her self conscience from her mind and projected it outside. Aka, moving it with her mind. But it seems like a later season power rather than a season 2 ability.
Good example with the clock - we don't call a gear changer lol. I always did wonder about her powers why they stopped called it the power to freeze time and then started referring it as the "molecule thing". The first two seasons established that she could freeze time just like the Angels of Destiny could. In the episode "Morality Bites," when Phoebe is in jail for murder, Piper freezes everything with a simple gesture and Prue could do some kind of energy blast which was cool, to bad we never got to see her evolve to use that power. Now, we know why her powers could speed things up; the writers just added that in and had Leo explain it to us the original creator must have have been mad watching her vision destroyed lol. P.S. Did you also notice the size of the laptop at 1:31? Lol, I didn't know laptop were that blocky at the bottom back in the day! Lol since I didn't have one.
Thank you! I was so confused about the molecule stuff when I first started playing around online, since I only ever watched Charmed on the tv/dvd sets and we didn't really have internet in our house, so I didn't start hearing about it until a few years ago and I was like WHAT? Who came up with THAT? Lol.. And omigosh, yes!! The laptop kept drawing my eye since I never saw laptops back then and I didn't realize they looked like that! And also, the tv behind the end of the table is also wild! Like, I knew they were big like that since my grandparents had one, but it's been so long since I've seen one I'd almost forgotten they existed! Crazy how much technology has advance in just twenty-odd years!

@@weirdlybeloved Agreed with molecule stuff, when I first heard Leo's explanation I was thinking if her powers has to do with time, how the hell is she exploding stuff lol - never made sense to me if I being honest. I think you right it was probably Brad who introduced it after the original writer left and maybe that why she left or was pushed out, different visions.
Melinda Warren wouldnt have known about molecules and would have recorded it as she observed it. She froze spaces in time. Piper's power expansion makes way more sense than Prue astral projection or Phoebe's levitating (which would habe bith made more sense on the opposite sister). They didn't build up the powers in detail over the first two seasons at all; if anything Pardon My Past established that they can develop new abilities and lose them in their next life if abused. Piper's past life became Piper, whose freezing power was stronger and she got a new power. The molecule explaination retroactively made the fire and ice powers somewhat fit into the family since temperature is the result of molecular motion and heat can lead to combustion.
I have a different theory on the elemental powers in Pardon My Past, and tbh trying to fit the molecule thing to the elemental powers is kind of what I was talking about in the video.. how it tries to be applied to every power now.
@@weirdlybeloved to be honest, I did not "try" to connect molecule motion to fire and ice, thermodynamics did that for me. Seemingly random powers of fire, ice, and slowing/pausing time are retroactively made to make scientific sense. They started mixing magic with science as early as The Truth Is Out There And It Hurts when a material didn't exist was how they realized he was from the future. And in P3H20 Piper explains that electricity is the only way to separate water molecules. It still makes more sense than "I can move objects with my mind, why not my body" when that's not even what her power does. It projects her psyche outward, like how Phoebe's premonitions pull her mind into events. Phoebe's levitation didn't even get an explanation because we're supposed to be happy with her for having an active power like her empathy power which actually fits. They also established that knowledge is added over time in The Witch Is Back because Melinda was awed at how much more knowledge was in the book than when she started it. How does it not make sense that a colonial witch wouldn't record her observation as freezing time within a localized range, and later it was revealed that it wasn't the concept of time but the objects themselves in stasis? "Timing, feeling, and the phases of the moon" wasn't applied throughout the series beyond the scene where it was said either. You said in your video that you're okay with other people's canon explanations, but tbh your actions don't reflect that. All I did was express my opinion in a comment section since I love the series, know it very well, and was happy to join the conversation. I used evidence and thought under the clearly false impression that you meant what you said. I never said you were wrong, only that it didn't make sense. Does a person have to literally say the words "in my opinion" for you to respect ones that are counter to your own?
@@ETPlayground Correction: I said that everyone has a right to their own opinion, that does not make said opinion canon by default. And I do respect your opinion, I just don't agree with it, which is fine. You prefer the scientific side of things and I don't, so let's just agree to disagree.
I like the concept of stopping time, but I guess it gets confusing because if time literally stopped, it would have to have a more global impact, which, as another commenter mentioned, is a bit overpowered, especially for Piper's early years. The molecular thing explains how, after a person is "frozen", literal time still advances by seconds or minutes. Still, actual time magic would be cooler.
That's fair! They really should have explained both powers better, especially since there have been comments that pointed out that if molecules really were being slowed to the point of being 'frozen' that they would literally freeze from the loss of heat.. I didn't know that before making the video, though.. :(
Agreed! You also got to see how smart the girls were, like how Piper immediately understood what their mom was trying to do when she heard that Patty went for the cables on the dock to fight the water demon (she said that it makes sense because electricity is the only thing that separates water particles) or how Prue figured out that if the brotherhood is connected by blood, then the potion that vanquishes one should vanquish all! I miss those days, haha.
Yeah… the power growth and power retconning didn’t make sense. I do like the idea of molecular inhibition being the version of Piper’s that she presented during Bride and Gloom I believe where she encased the lady in ice BUT her actual freezing power being temporal stasis will always make far more sense to me, retcon be damned lol. Same for Priscilla Baxter having temporal deceleration instead of molecular deceleration. As for Piper Molecular Combustion, idk why they didn’t just give her temporal acceleration which they could’ve shown as her causing rapid aging/degradation on select objects but of course that wouldn’t be as flashy as an explosion for Brad 😒. I also HATED the random growth in general. Prue’s astral projection works, especially if we take it as being the manifestation of her telekinesis given form but phoebes levitation irritates me. I wish they had given levitation to Prue which could further explain her enhanced combat skills (I know she went training with Phoebe off screen) and gave Phoebe astral projection or anything “premonition-esque” based power like Prue said. This is kinda the only time I’ll give the reboot series its props because for better or worse, the power growths/expansions did follow a categorical trend that made sense thematically.
Yuss, giving Piper the power to further manipulate time (such as speeding it up/slowing it down) makes so much more sense for Piper! But as you said, that wouldn't have been as flashy, so.. didn't happen. :( And right?! Levitation probably made more sense for Prue anyway, and Phoebe could have gotten astral projection and/or telepathy, as another commenter suggested.. but instead they just did as they pleased.
I would love to ask Constance why didn’t they use Piper as a go around for tempus. It was still when she was around and tempus was the demon of time. Why was it just phoebe who really wasn’t affected by the time redos or they needed a spell make time go forward if pipers powers are time based
Omg I agree with this a lot! When they were in the time loop I get that she mainly understood from her premonitions but I feel like piper also should have gotten a deja vu from freezing that lady in the restaurant. And tbh we've seen them turn back time literally in that episode. What if they rewrote the spell to accelerate time (the one used on tempus) and just reversed the effects to save prue. They were clearly good at making up spells at the time and even if piper/prue died, only 1 of them had to say the spell. This could have saved ALL of them including the exposure of magic. This is speaking from the show perspective not the actresses btw!
Sidenote: But sometimes I wish that Phoebe could have the power of telepathy instead of levitation. Not only would it be way cooler and an actually extension to her premonition but they could easily find innocents and/or demons instead of scrying
I absolutely agree! Telepathy was the perfect power for her especially bcz it could easily progress with empathy and make more sense. This would also make even more sense for her power replication. We know that phoebe channels other ppls powers through their emotions, remember that Zachary kid from magic school? He had telepathy and channeled other ppls powers from their mind. It's possible constance would have given her telepathy and then empathy. Makes sm more sense and with astral premonition being a mix of all 3 of those powers with time, feeling, and thought.
Constance would have absolutely made the show the original wednesday! The first 2 seasons had that real wiccan witchy magical style to it. The coloring, the hues, the lighting, ALL OF IT. Imagine her giving powers to the charmed ones! It's also possible she could have resolved the Alyssa and shannen problem (just a thought). She would have even given Paige powers of her own instead of copy pasting whitelighter powers.
Speeding up objects dont make then explode. You need something as a catalyst. If they wanted to go the molecular route, I guess increasing molecular speed to increase temperature until objects changed state could have worked. As for the manipulating time route, giving piper the ability to time travel is just too powerful. It would take out all the stakes. Perhaps her freezing time power could develop into temporarily rewinding time like that one person or maybe she could speed up time in an isolated area to torture demons. Idk. Pure having astral projection also made no sense. Pure isn’t moving her body she is bi locating. Phoebe should have had traditional astra projection and pure should have had flight
Definitely agree! I kind of envision Piper having a similar time-rewinding power to Max in Life is Strange ~ limited, but powerful and comes with consequences.
I don't think she ever will.. she doesn't even really talk about Charmed anymore. Poor Constance.. she didn't deserve to have the show she created taken away from her. 😢
@@weirdlybeloved oh by the way can you put the hearts again because I didn't finish my sentence so do you mind to put the heart up in my first comment when I was talking about Constance if she is coming back
For me their secondary powers never made any sense. It should be levitation for Prue, astral projection for Phoebe and as for Piper it's a little more complicated... I accepted their explanation because I couldn't think about any other advancements. Their explanation is just very stretched. But still I prefer Piper's secondary power because at least it's trying to make some sense, not like Prue's and Phoebe's secondary powers which are reversed. Let's look for potential advancements that would make sense for this power from other sci-fi/fantasy shows... - Paralysis Inducement - useful to get some information from demons - Temporal Displacement - that would be interesting but it would go to much into Phoebe's visions of past, present and future - Speed Cancellation - very useful against speedsters - Time Dilation Field - for trapping someone and I think that one would be the best I've also seen other advancements of this power like being super fast or teleportation. But I think that the problem is that they made her too strong at the beginning and it's kinda hard to make this power grow. If they would start with just slowing down someone (like their ancestor did) then it could be slower and slower to the point time would stop and also grow from single objects/people to whole room, building, etc.
That definitely would have been cool to see! Also if Phoebe's powers had developed like in Morality Bites and she could use psychic energy as a weapon, or if Piper's explosion power was actually speeding time up to the point of combustion, she could have learned to reverse it (and reverse time) as well! There was so much potential there!
The future!Phoebe powers remind me of the comics where she DID get that power as the timeline caught up with the timeline of Morality Bites Speaking of - I'd be curious to see your take of the comic seasons as well!
@@g.2658 Me, either ~ I feel like the art style completely goes against the theme of the original show. Greg Horn did a beautiful piece of the Charmed Ones that I always thought would have been a perfect style though!
I’m a little confused can anyone who knows science a bit please explain because her freezing power being the result of slowing down molecules makes no sense because then the object would loose it’s heat and crystallize like when she was a warlock right?
I do NOT know science but I have a theory on this so, when she froze dan to check if he was a warlock phoebe said "his blood is frozen" it's possible that the air was still in contact with his molecules but they were just frozen in time. Also I wonder if piper could freeze organs from the inside? She can unfreeze heads of demons but what abt their hearts like paiges cardiac arrest...? Hmm..
Piper needed that power upgrade, and so did Phoebe. I understand what you are saying about it deviating from the source material, but Season 1&2 didn't utilize the sisters enough. Piper and Phoebe were always written around Prue. It felt like they were props or tools on Prues belt. Although it is stated in the first episode that one of the sisters could stop time, it never really made much sense to me considering that in season 1 the scene where she freezes the kitchen at quake and not the rest of the restaurant, or the episode where She freezes Matthew and he figures out they got their powers because the clock kept chiming while he was frozen. So going the molecular route filled in that plot hole. It also helped Piper expand on the power, because if she can slow down molecules, why cant she speed them up? I think it was really fun and the power brought out a lot of pipers personality and it gave her a Confidence boost. Melinda power was to see the future, but Phoebe didn't have that limitation; she could also see the past. So its safe to say that the sisters powers take on a form of their own relating to who the sisters are. Another thing, Astral Projection is tied to psychics therefore that power should've went to Phoebe. Levitation is also tied to psychics so that power fit Phoebe. I think that Prue should've gotten the levitation power first because she is in face moving her power. My theory is that Melinda couldn't stop time, she just thought she could because could freeze everyone around her and she interpreted the power as freezing time.
I like how you brought up the thing abt Melinda's powers.. You're actually right about the powers growing to one of each part of Melidnas powers. Honestly, I think it was BECAUSE of melinda that witches (or atleast the warren line) have powers that progress with their original power. None of Melinda's powers were rlly a progression of anything! Similar to demons. I think it's because she created the prophecy of the charmed ones. Only one sister would get ONE of her powers. But seeing as most Warren's were not 3 sisters, they only got one of her power and the 2nd/3rd power would get passed on to their kids. Melinda is the reason that powers progress properly (not including the writers ideas of "progress").
@@FateTheWinx It seems that most witches are limited to one power, which would explain why some good witches go bad aka become warlocks. They want more powers because magic isn't enough or simply due to greed and envy. The Halliwells don't seem to have that limitation so that might be why they were prophesied to be the most powerful good witches. It might be safe to assume that most witches have very little power. I say that because every witch they encounter is generally weak and in need of their home, with the exception of Billy, Christy, and Zachary( telepath from Magic School). If there was one thing I could change or add to the show, it would be more interactions with other witches.
@@leandrojimenez10 I think every witch has the potential of being powerful. Prophecy or not. But witches that arent destined for great things or to do great things wouldnt have a reason to train their powers that much. Most of the witches we saw on the show either did spells, or made potions instead of relying on their power. They rely on knowledge which I'm guessing is why they're powers are so weak. Billie is a good example of this. Even though she is a part of the ultimate power, she kept training and training a lot to the point she grew to projection. But I always hated how fast she got new powers in just 1 season. Christy makes sense. She was trained by the triad for years understandable why her powers grew so strong. And like you mentioned zachary is a powerful witch. He had a goal which possibly made him train his power into power replication. Phoebe did the same for her empathy. Although she had it in the same season, she learned how to utilize it. Powers dont have to grow to be useful, but how you use the powers. Most witches dont think they will be in danger and rely only on charmed ones to protect them. I never liked that and rlly wished we got to see more badass witches like grams and billie.
Yeah, I always felt like the first couple of seasons were way too Prue-centric for me, too. And even season three had its moments.. I just about lost it when they managed to make Piper's WEDDING about Prue. Not even a demon or a warlock (which might be understandable, given their line of work) but Prue. AGAIN. As much as I loved the chemistry of the original three, there's no denying that Piper and Phoebe had more of a chance to shine once Paige joined the show. Hmm.. you make a fair point, but actually I think it does make sense when you consider that Piper's power seems to be localized. She can only freeze her current environment, like the kitchen, and as her powers grow she learns to concentrate them even more, so that she can specifically freeze certain people/objects, like Nicholas. (who was the one who was frozen while the clock chimed, not Matthew) And if Piper's powers had expanded to be able to speed up time as well, to the point where it can combust, then that would have worked just as well as the molecule explanation, if not more so. Especially since, as several commenters have pointed out, if molecules really were slowed down to the point where they didn't appear to move, they would lose their heat and freeze.
@@weirdlybeloved I Don’t know why I always get Matthew and Nicholas names mixed up 😂. Pipers powers being localized is a great way to explain it. So it’s fair to say that she isn’t a “time Witch” per se. I guess it’s open to interpretation. I try not too think too much about it cause it’s fiction. It doesn’t have to make sense. Sometimes we have to let a magical show be just that, Magical. I find that a lot of the fandom becomes obsessed with wanting everything to make sense, but where’s the fun in that😂😂😂. I would love to hear your take on missed opportunities for certain characters and/archs on the show. For example, I always felt the Rowe coven brother was short lived and they could’ve expanded so much on it. Considering charmed was heavily about sisterhood and they had a literal mirror set of brothers with a similar dynamic as them. Like the youngest and the older brother being at odds and the oldest brother being a control freak. Remind you of anyone? 😂 Another example would be The Stillman Sisters. They should have been series regular making a random appearances kind of like Barbas. Imagine the Stillman sisters working their way up to becoming the ultimate power instead of Billy and Christy. That’s what you call a plot twist. I have an unpopular opinion. The avatars were not a waste of time. Are they forgettable? Absolutely; but they weren’t utilized correctly and I think Leo and Cole should’ve been tempted by them simultaneously. I also believe that the Triad was short lived and I never liked the fact that Cole took them out so easily. Love your videos, can’t wait for the next one
Then, when Paige became one of the Charmed Ones, her power of telekinesis turned into one of teleportation, apparently due to her being half Whitelighter. Incidentally, how about doing a video on this idea: why is it that Charmed played into the old superstition that "good looking = good; ugly = evil"?
Omigosh, that's a great idea! Especially since in The Women of Charmed special, Constance specifically says that all she knew about witches and witchcraft in the beginning was from the stereotypical representations (such as the wart on the nose) so that's why she bought so many books on witchcraft and did so much research, to learn everything she could and try to make something different! And yet by season 7 you have episodes like Freaky Phoebe, where the plot is literally an "ugly" sorceress wants to switch places with Phoebe because she's soooo pretty. I swear, the later seasons had no subtlety whatsoever. They just didn't care anymore.
I came back to comment this thing, haha. Maybe it could be of use for another video? One thing that I didn't like about the powers in general, was how in season 1, telekinesis was seen as this rare, powerful Warren power, and throughout the years, suddenly (imo) it seemed to become the most common power, also outside of the Warren line. How many demons and other witches did we see using it? How many students at magic school? And most annoyingly: Billie. I mean, this was basically the fifth main character witch (after the sisters) and they decided to copy Prue's power and have Billie use it as well, even though she had no familial relation to them? Come on... Haha, rant over
Omigosh, right?! I really would love to mention it in a future video if that's alright, because it makes no sense for people like Rex, Hannah, Matthew, Kali, etc. to all want the Warren powers (especially telekinesis) if it was such a common ability to begin with! You would think that if that were the case, rather than fight the Charmed Ones, they would just go steal the ability from any witch that had it! It's so weeeeeird lol.
@@weirdlybeloved Sure, you're more than welcome to talk about it in another video. Thank you! And I totally agree! I can imagine that telekinesis was one of the easiest powers to film as far as the visual effects are concerned, but come on... They shouldn't have made it a Charmed power then. Especially when it was often said that Prue's power was the strongest, like in the season 2 première, Phoebe and Piper both say it.
Tbh i actually liked mels power progression but sadly it was a bit weird. Her original power was temporal stasis but exactly like the original her power grew to molecular abilities like generating heat and ice. However her ability to time travel made up for this. The only thing i never liked was how when they grew new powers, they lost their original one.
Omg stop 😂😂 Just like what wyatt did to the dragon. He "added orbs into the dragons molecules and combusted it" giving him what u call "molecular combustive orbing" this was so stupid why are they expanding this ability EVEN MORE.
To be honest this was my least favorite power in the show because if just became a cheap win button for the Charmed Ones and got used more over her freezing power because of lessened budget. Even though Piper is my favorite character despite how annoying she can be. lol I know people complain about Prue being overpowered in early seasons, and while I don't disagree necessarily, I also don't agree on the same wavelength. Piper's Molecular Combustion was the most overpowered move in the show. The reason being is starting in Season 5, almost any time they needed a way to get rid of a demon that wasn't PO3 or a spell they just used Piper to win button the threat of the episode every time. This feels even worse when potions by the end of the show just became the same thing as Piper's exploding power. Instead of earlier when the sisters needed things to make their potion's effect stronger. It also stepped on the toes of Paige's offensive power too as there were many times, especially around Season 5 and 7 where Paige is standing next to Piper and they are fighting a demon, despite Paige having her own offensive power than can be effective in his own right while not possessing the rawness of Piper's exploding power would just not be used, almost as if the episode forgets Paige didn't have her own offensive power, rather she opted to throw a potion just to make sure their threat of the day is solved by Piper exploding them. It felt like a cheap DEM. In spite of my criticisms though, I do think Molecular Combustion and Molecular Immobilization are cool powers that not a lot of media uses and made Piper stand out in that regard.
For real. Prue may have been overpowered early on, but it was more of an assist than a win ~ they still had to figure out how to defeat (oftentimes outsmart) their enemy, but with Piper's explosion power, it's just like.. bah, there's a demon in the house? BOOM, okay, what's for lunch? 🙄
Well I just got finished watching this video and yeah I see that it's about the Molecule deal, but seeing some bits of the second episode in the second season Morality bites, we see Prue a decade later from the present and yes, the future isn't set, but in some shape, matter, or form that Prue was still capable of being alive and that's how the show should of been while it was on the air. The program got screwed because of Prue being murdered which I say is UNACCEPTABLE thanks to Brad Kern🙄who my respect has slightly declined towards. But back to the Molecule business, it does make a lot of sense that Piper and slow down molcules and later on, learned that she can speed them up. And between Constance and Brad, I would respect Constance over Brad any day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, it definitely feels like they ruined everything that was good about the show and turned it into a complete parody of itself. It's sad.. Charmed had such potential. 😓
can you do a video comparing the powers of the original Charmed to the powers of the Charmed Reboot? Cause I feel like the writers of the reboot fixed or attempted to fix the problems with the powers from the original.
Umm.. maybe! I didn't get very far into the reboot so I'm not sure what all of the differences are, but I can imagine with today's graphics and technology the powers were probably very impressive!
But she was no longer an executive producer, which I think the screenshot I included shows. Instead she was an "executive consultant" until she finally left the show for good at the end of season 4.
Hold on, I agree with the molecule thing being stupid but I don't agree that the powers didn't make sense. If any power didn't make sense it was Prue's astral projection(yes there is a decent explanation but if you think about it long enough you'll find that every power is connected somehow). Anyway what I am referring to has to do with astrology because the girl's personality are heavily based on the modalities of astrology. There are 3 modalities in astrology(and no their birthdays don't align well with them): Cardinal(the first signs of the seasons - aries, cancer, libra and capricorn) - what these signs have in common is that they're initiators of change and Prue fits this quite well. According to the show she's a Scorpio but the personality she has is very much Capricorn - grounded, in control, ambitious, hard working, gets things done well, professional... And her power of telekinesis literally allows her to initiate a change in the environment. This is why to me astral projection for her makes no sense. That fits mutable more(we'll get to that soon) Fixed(the second signs of the seasons - taurus, leo, scorpio, aquarius) - what these signs have in common is that they try to resist sudden, unexpected change, if they haven't envisioned it. Piper fits that perfectly and generally fits the personality of a Taurus(homey, searching for stability, rigid, stubborn...) and her power literally allows her to keep things as they are. Exploding things also makes sense because when change is pushed on these signs it is destructive. That's basically the thing, most of the time they're resisting change but when that's no longer an option BOOM. And that's what happened to Piper, her anxiety turned to anger Mutable(the final signs of the season -gemini, virgo, sagittarius and pisces) - these signs adapt to change somehow. And phoebe is a very adaptable, improvising person. Her powers allow her to adapt. She receives information(in the form of premonitions and empathy) so she can adapt to it(imagine if this was piper, like in the first episode, she would have hesitated to go save the kids, simply due to panic) and even her levitation as an indirect power allows her to adapt what she already knows(martial arts) in different ways, gives her more flexibility. Now the pathokinesis(the thing she did in the future) makes no sense because she's moving emotions and thoughts(creating a change instead of adapting). I would much rather phoebe had astal projection and prue had pathokinesis(literally moving thought and emotions to change a person's mind...) although with the plot of morality bites that would make no sense. But after paige came along this stopped making sense because orbing fits mutable while telekinetic orbing fits cardinal and that's the thing with paige, she exhibits both aries and sagittarius.
If their birthdays don't fit, then I'm not sure the modalities really apply to them.. but someone in the comments explained Piper's explosion powers as the ability to speed time up to the point where it combusts, and I think that theory really fits for Piper!
Would her Combustion ability have been more tolerable if she was shown to have a Temporal Acceleration ability? In that way, Combustion would have just been the power's offensive presentation.
Yeah.. the only reason I can maybe see that one is because of Morality Bites, otherwise it really makes no sense for her to be flying around like that, haha.
I love your videos! I don’t really agree with you on this one, though. Do I believe that the growing of the powers was an afterthought, and that it was probably kind of ‘forced to make sense’? Yes. But personally, while I am kind of iffy on Phoebe’s levitation power, I do personally believe that Piper’s powers make sense. In my opinion, ‘freezing time’ was like a bit of a simplified explanation on what the power is all about. Because if you think about it, say the scene where she freezes everybody in the kitchen in Quake, but not in the restaurant itself? “Time” isn’t really frozen because time is for everybody, you know what I mean? That would mean that everybody in the kitchen, frozen in that moment, would be like, out of sync with the rest of the world? Maybe I’m thinking too much about it, but time as a concept in general is kind of messy like that - I mean, they said it themselves in the show. Don’t think about time traveling etc, you’ll get a headache. In that sense it really was a logical extension of her powers that she could blow things up if she sped up the molecules. The fact that it was only mentioned once, to me, to me also doesn’t feel like a hindrance, you know, it’s like you said, we’re not here to listen to the science behind it. Though it does sound kind of cool to me to know. Like it gives it more “realism”, more than just being told “that’s just her power”. With Phoebe, yes, the levitation does seem random, though, like you point out in the video, we see future Phoebe doing it while using another power, so I kind of always just thought to myself that it was like, levitation was an extension of her power that we never saw fully developed. Also, levitation is often associated with meditation, which we do see Phoebe meditate and levitate in the show, and we even see Paige levitating in orbs while she’s meditating. So maybe it could be explained in that sense, that it comes from that higher awareness of clairvoyance that Phoebe has, that allows her to do that. We’ll never know, of course, but it is nice to think about. At least I think so :-) Like I commented on your previous video, a bigger plot hole problem concerning the powers that I have is why does Melinda Warren have all three of these powers, and why do all of her family members that come after her, that are supposed to be stronger than her, have only one of them? EDIT: I once heard someone say that them giving Piper the explosion power was probably the writers knowing they were going to get rid of Prue. Before that, Piper's power was more defensive than offensive, and they realized that with Prue's character gone, they'd need to have someone else with an offensive power.
This is just my opinion, but if they wanted to continue her power and make it make sense, they could have given her the ability to speed time up to the point where it would age something into dust or even reverse it into nothing. Now, speeding time up around demons might not necessarily work since they are ageless, but she could reverse time around them into nothing. I think in the new Charmed reboot, one of the sisters could do that, can't remember the episode but she sped up time around an object (can't remember if she sped it up by years or by centuries) for a spell or something. Also their whitelighter told the sister who could freeze time in the new version if she needed time to do her dissertation she could always freeze time. I mean Pipers powers are all about time, so the writers could've basically progressed her powers that way, maybe she could time travel, create time pockets, maybe even reverse time just like Ultron did to vison when the Scarlet blew him up, etc basically anything related to time.
That's fair. :) And agreed! Phoebe's powers definitely weren't explored as much as they should have been, and now that I've rewatched Morality Bites, I kind of think Phoebe's future power almost looks like the lightning the evil enchantress used! So much potential just.. wasted! And yeah, I kind of wonder about that too, given the timing of it.. Piper went the whole season just doing her thing, and out of nowhere she starts exploding things in the 3rd to last episode of the season. Definitely makes me wonder if they knew Shannen wouldn't make it to season 4 and scrambled to set things up for the show to continue on without her.
@@abbysands9510 I've seen some of the reboot here and there, and yes, not too long into the show, I remember there being something about Piper's counterpart in that show being 'a time witch', which means that she could also freely timetravel and all of that, just by using her powers. Personally I didn't really like that because it didn't make sense to me, but maybe that was because I was too stuck on the molecular explanation.
Were Piper just stopping the molecules, wouldn't the energy behind their movement (in the case of a bullet) dissipate upon freezing? The force moving the molecules isn't a molecule itself so the explanation is half baked at best IMO.
That's a good question! Piper did freeze the bullet Abby shot at Prue in Sight Unseen, and the force behind it seemingly disappeared, but Piper also slapped the bullet away so I'm thinking she knew the force was still present, just frozen? Hmm.. I'm not sure! 🤔
Omg this is a rlly good point especially with all the times she froze bullets. Maybe she also froze the air molecules around the force? Idk just a thought. But i love how u noticed that!
I wondered the same thing after one of Leo's military ghost friends threw a knife at her, and it dropped after it was unfrozen. That was the only time it happened and maybe it's because the writers knew they were stepping into a sticky situation. It wouldn't just be knives, bullets and arrows that dropped, but energy balls and fire balls would have to dissipate the minute she froze them.
But Piper's power of freezing never actually was stopping time - if it was, then the idea of "good witches not freezing" wouldn't make any sense, as that would mean they'd exist outside time. Also, it's established early on that she can only freeze things within the one room, how can time stop in one area and still keep going in another? And then how can she selectively freeze some people and not others? The idea of Piper actually stopping time is laughable. It's obvious that her freezing power has something to do with freezing the target, so the idea of manipulating molecules is far more consistent and makes far more sense than the idea of Piper manipulating the entire fabric of space-time.
also even if it is speeding up time how does speeding up time make things explode? also wouldn't everyone near her speed up? because she is making time go fast
This is so true but from the writers perspective u could say that "she rapidly sped up the air molecules near/inside the clock and made it explode" i honestly wish they actually cared abt her powers instead of just doing whatever they want.
can you make a video on Billie and Christy and give us moe of analysis on them or something ? I think they’re such interesting characters because of the backstory to them and why they were choose as the ultimate power
I'd love to! Especially Christy ~ honestly, she got such a bad rap and the show worked overtime to make her out to be this irredeemable psychopath, but there was a lot more to her character! And in truth, she did have a fair point; the sisters HAD become extremely selfish by that point. I don't think they deserved to die for it, but I bet that one of the things that made the sisters most uncomfortable about Christy (especially Piper) didn't like that Christy saw right through them and they knew it.
Billie and Christy were such interesting characters. I wish christy came a bit earlier for season 8 instead of bringing back the source. It's possible that similar to the Warren witches being a set of 3, the Jenkins have their own line that originated from a powerful witch aswell, that made sure that there would be an ultimate power being in a set of 2 witches. Both with a mind and thought based ability. And the generations would be alternative one gen pure mortal and another pure wiccan. This would explain why their mother/father wasnt a witch, depending who the grandmothers child was. Sadly it was stated in the comics the ultimate power was not supposed to be even close as strong as the power of three because of the whole prue thing. But honestly I dont count the comics.
This would also make sense on why demons specifically the triad knew about them. Probably came across one of their "ultimate power" ancestors and knew they needed to get their descendants on the side of evil to fight the charmed ones. Also possible they used the blood of the dead ultimate power witches to find christy instead of google maps 😂
@@weirdlybelovedI’m curious what’s your opinion on the fact that piper was so willing to kill Christy and Billie right off the bat and didn’t even wanna try to talk like phoebe did
Hey really love your vids. They always take me back to a better time. But I do have to disagree with you here. I think the "molecular manipulation" theory relating to Piper's power took off because it made more sense than the literal stopping of time thing. Especially because it was established that when she uses her powers, it only has limited range. Time is everywhere. It's all around us. And it all kind of goes together. If she were truly stopping time, wouldn't it be everywhere? Wouldn't the earth stop spinning, light stop traveling through space and the universe as a whole come to a stand still? If she is only stopping something in the room she is currently in but not outside, how could she truly be stopping time? Doesn't it just make more sense that she is freezing molecules or whatever instead? I think this is just an old fashioned retcon and a much needed one at that. Constance (in my opinion) didn't really think that one through. Now I wouldn't go overboard like the others and say that all of their powers are based on some form of molecular manipulation, but where Piper is concerned? It makes much more sense. And in my opinion to totally suspend my belief in this regard totally breaks immersion in the show. Those are my little thoughts on the matter. Can't wait for your next upload.
I think Piper's power is localized, so it only affects the immediate area (remember the scene where Andy comes into Quake looking for Prue? Piper freezes him, but when Darryl follows Andy he's confused because their watches show that 10 minutes have passed on Darryl's watch but not Andy's) and she's definitely not powerful enough to affect the spinning of the Earth itself. And as for the molecule thing, several people have pointed out that if molecules really were slowed to the point they didn't appear to move, they would lose their heat and freeze over, so I'm not sure the writers thought that one through either, haha. 😅 But thank you! I'm glad you like the videos! 😊
Well, I don't think P. Baxter had the power of molecular deceleration, I think it was basically molecular immobilization. In one of the first episodes, it was stated that every new generation of the Warren witches is stronger than the older one. One of the powers Melinda practiced was molecular immobilization, which is a stronger version of molecular deceleration, so it doesn't make sense for P. Baxter to have a weaker version of it than Melinda. Also, when she froze Anton (or whatever his name was), he said "I love having this power." The only power that would make sense in that situation was immunity to getting frozen.
It is possible she did have immobilization however I think her power weakened to deceleration. We know from the episode "the eyes have it" Phoebes powers weakened because she didnt use them as much anymore. This could have been the case for Baxter. She also only used this power ONCE the entire episode meaning she only uses it in emergencies.
Hmm.. that was kind of my point in the video, that I don't really support the molecule stuff and prefer to use the terminology the show established during the run of the creator, Constance.
Anton said that "hes gonna like having that power" meaning he knew that Baxter's powers were weak at the time and prob the reason he went after her at her weakest point. But I agree with u, the molecular plots were badly written. It's like brad never watched the first 2 season of charmed.
I haven't long watched your videos I just wanted to add which also does not make sense while you was on the subject of the titans in season 5 that particular episode has always bugged me as at the very beginning Phoebe says why do they not have air conditioning but going back to season 3 to Sight Unseen low and behold they have air conditioning as Cole turns it on to help them see Troxa its like you have said they haven't thought things through properly thanks for your uploads I shall look forward to watching more that you post in near future
@@weirdlybeloved Yeah also another one for you about the same episode in season 5 where Leo goes up to the Elders to discover them have been killed by the Titans he is up there for so many hours, he returns back to Piper to discover his hair has started to turn white, he said it was because he had been up there for too long but at the end of season 2 Piper and Leo goes there as in beginning of season 3 she returns 1 month later and none of Leos or Pipers hair had turned white in anyway and they were supposed to be up there a lot longer than that, whats your opinion as I just brushed that hair whiteness part was because he was becoming an elder but when you look at other elders none of the elders hair is white so why did it just effect Leo in that episode?
Oh sorry I wasn't trying to make you repeat yourself it's not my intention I get what you're saying probably it's me that I'm repeating all the time not realizing trying to ask the same question all over again and again 11:08
Oh no, like I said in the video, I wasn't talking about anyone specifically, it's the molecule thing in general. I love science and figuring out how things work, but I like to keep that separate from a show about magic, you know?
@@weirdlybeloved yes I get where you coming from because I just feel like the show it should focus on Magic it's true that in the series there was a bit of science but it was more about magic than science because it was more about nature and magic at the same time because in the reboot the charm reboots they mixed science with magic so that was something different from the original Charmed
@@weirdlybeloved but since Constance that she left her own project I think they start to do whatever they want with it so this is the reason why the storyline it was very different because normally their powers were supposed to grow but using their magic it did not grow it just was the same thing Phoebe levitating and Piper blowing up things & Prue she kept having telekinesis with her mind and her hands but they should have been more than that I just feel like the girls in The Charmed ones they should have had elemental powers normally they were destined to have these powers but I feel like it was written off for some reason
Heyyyyy yo! I'm home again, so I'm doing okay. Kind of frustrating to be dealing with the same bs as usual now that I'm back, but it is what it is. How are you doing?
@@weirdlybeloved Is that why you seem to sound a bit pissed/ frustrated in the vid? I feel ya but I hope you still had a good time and could wind down a bit. I'm ok tho my time window for applications is pretty much closed now without any good news so I kinda have to look for something else in the next months and I hope I get something so I can finally move out but all in all it's ok. the "other" stuff got way better so I don't have to deal with this anymore but you know how it is. But every cloud has a silver lining, and I think things might be looking up since my mom and I are going to switch rooms again so I can have my original room back. We only switched in the first place since the neighbor on the other side of the wall was making me miserable, but they moved out a year ago, so hopefully things will get better once that's done. And I'm sorry! Is there a part-time job you could look for while you wait for a better position to open up?
@@weirdlybeloved Oh? Well i thought iI was wrong since you said it was 3 in the morning and I ended up thinking you're just tired, which was problay the case but more like the Icing on the cake haha. I'm applying for a apprenticeship (Idk how it's called but I guess the word is enough as explanation, if not let me know haha) I think with, the help of the state, since I turned 25, I might be able to get a paid apartment and if I'm able to get a full time job where I can slip into an apprenticeship next year then all my problems would be gone PLUS the apartment of a friend of our family is about to be done in a few months so I'm positive that I can get out of this house this year.
@@spiegelhirsch3531 That definitely was part of it! I recorded this video the night I came home, and despite all of the bs that happened during the day, I was like.. I'm tired, I'm stressed, but let's get this audio done, lmao. So by 3am I was just.. dead, haha. Yeah, it's a long story, but that room is slightly bigger and it's away from the hallway, so I'd have a bit more room (and definitely a bigger closet) and I'd be away from people constantly going up and down the stairs and/or my neighbor blasting his music, which is annoying to listen to when you're trying to concentrate. I felt wrong asking, since it seems fair that mom should have the slightly bigger room, but given the size of her bed and armoire, it takes up pretty much the amount of space in both rooms. And she really only goes in her room to sleep at night and get ready in the morning, whereas I'm going in and out of my room all day, so it just seems like a better fit for me. Oh nice! What kind of apprenticeships are you interested? Also when did you turn 25?! I swear the last time we talked you were 24! Did I miss your birthday?! :O

Just.. ugh.
@@weirdlybeloved omg the Godiva episode. The WB commercials for it 🤢
The show was terribly sexual.
Bowen in which he replies "by FIGHTING THROUGH HER POWER and posing as her former lover"
what happens when a character is to powerful and is able to break though Piper's freeze. 🤔🤔🤔
But some they came up with the "weaker version of molecular immobilisation" and it went as far as one of the children of the charmed ones in the comic books has that power SMH
Right? No more "let's figure out how to take down this threat!" It's like, "oh a demon!" *BOOM* "what's for lunch?" 🙄
Fair enough! :)
Piper's powers are two forms of molecular manipulation. She can either slow molecules down to the point where they appear frozen or speed them up to the point where things explode.
Yes, I just prefer to use the original terminology. :)
The retcon explination makes sense to me, her freezing power works by molecular immobilization, and it allowed for a more interesting growth path
@@CamReeds you have me to think for the original comment it’s pinned at the top of the video if you wanna see it
As you can tell by the comment section A LOT of fans are hung up on the molecule thing.
@@weirdlybelovedOfc! I'd love that so much! 💖
I.. see your point, but that's also kind of what I meant with the video.. I'm not really into the molecule stuff. 😓
The levitation power NEVER made sense to me. It was certainly NOT a progression.
It’s a psychic ability which could be linked.
I like that Piper's powers expanded, it's just the way people took the molecule thing and ran with it that bothers me, you know?
im super on board with her having time freezing powers. theres too many retcons and mistakes in the show to take one throw away line seriously after there being so many lines where they call it freezing time.
also if you do think of it scientifically then it would have to be freezing time. because if she did stop molecules then they would freeze into ice since cold happens when molecules slow down. but if she froze a field of time then it would work like this.
maybe her exploding power just works by speeding up the time of each molecule. that way you can get both answers and everybodys happy!
Exactly!! 💯
She froze just Nicholas not the area she can freeze specific things and areas
Agree pipers powers completely freeze nit slow down and they move for a bit
Thank you!
@@untamedrose30 Yes, I can see that. People probably would have felt it was a more natural progression.
Great explanation. "We call things by their name/title, not their function".
Thank you!
Pipers Molecular iMobilization and Prues telekinesis are pretty much opposites of each other.
Pipers power halts matter while Prues Power moves matter
Another thing I noticed was that in season 6 when Piper, Phoebe and Paige traveled back in time to the 60's there was a warlock that could stop time and something Piper was frozen along with everyone else. I just always thought that was weird because I thought good witches don't freeze. That's something that was explained in season 1.
Ooh, good catch!! I wonder how he was able to stop time like that? 🤔
I liked it better when their powers were magically explained. Like Timing. Feeling and the Phases of the moon thing.
Me too! I think it also fit the theme of the show a lot better! ☺️
If Prue was alive the entire show this is how i think her powers woukd have grown:
Telekinesis
Astral projection
Telematerialization (since she already had this power from season 1, i think it could grow to the point that she doesnt need a liquid substance to move things. It could be like tj orbing hut without the orbs.)
Advanced telekinesis (seen from the future)
Thought projection (this may be controversial however my theory i think that since she originally used her mind to move things before her hands why not move things FROM her mind and materialize it)
She would gain these powers in season 4, 6, 8. Similar to phoebe where she got new powers every 3 years, prue would get hers every 2 years.
I love your ideas!! That sounds like a great evolution for Prue, and they all fit within her Warren abilities so it does make a lot of sense!
Tysm! I've always had my own opinions on some charmed plots and when I found ur channel I FELL IN LOVE WITH IT and just had to subscribe! Finding out abt charmed theories and mistakes are so fun! I cant wait for more videos!!
@@FateTheWinx If you have any theories you'd like to share, you're more than welcome! ☺️
I just finished watching "Morality Bites" right now, and noticed something interesting. Ten years in the future, Phoebe is on trial for murder because she killed a guy using magic, which exposed the existence of magic. The entire world knows about magic; for instance, Piper freezes time in her future body, and while she's talking to Leo, a woman comes in, sees the frozen people, and starts yelling "witch."
Now, here's the thing: didn't the Cleaners say they step in when magic is exposed to clean up the mess? Phoebe killing someone using her powers and getting caught doing it is a big deal, and on top of that, the entire world knows about magic, witches etc, and they are even witch hunters and Phoebe is being executed on live tv. So, where are the Cleaners? the cleaners should have appeared long before the Wyatt episode where he conjured up a dragon. Seems like the writers screwed up somewhere and didn't quite explain why this episode happened.
Funny thing is, I never thought about this until I watched the episode again.
Omigosh, I never thought about that!! That's an amazing catch! Would you mind if I added that to the next plotholes video? I'm happy to credit you!

Future charmed in season 2
Prue - Telekinetic Waves
Piper - Advanced Immobilization
Phoebe - Psychic Reflection & Levitation
To each their own 🙂
I agree with you, but I think it applies to astral projection too which Prue got in Season 2 when Constance M.
Fair point! I think I only saw the first episode of Heroes, so I'm not too familiar with it, but the scene you described sounds really interesting!
Exactly!! Honestly, I wish I'd known about the temperature thing before making the video, because that's a really good point!
That would’ve made sense for Prue if anything
Anyway, great video! 😊
Lol..

The later seasons relied too much on Piper blowing up the demons. I found myself missing the spells.
And right?!
I suck at stem so I'll take your word for it
Sidenote: But sometimes I wish that Phoebe could have the power of telepathy instead of levitation. Not only would it be way cooler and an actually extension to her premonition but they could easily find innocents and/or demons instead of scrying
Omigosh, telepathy would be a perfect power for Phoebe!
"Fiji Halliwell"😂❤
😂😂😂
I hate that molecular thing too, but we can only imagine how the show would be with Constance all 8 seasons
I wish Constance had stayed and Brad would have been the one to leave! The show had such heart when she was the one in charge!
Might as well call it the molecular of three
LMAO right?! It's so ridiculous.
By the way Constance M Burgess she should come back she was the original creator of the show so they should bring her back Constance 0:33

- Paralysis Inducement - useful to get some information from demons
- Temporal Displacement - that would be interesting but it would go to much into Phoebe's visions of past, present and future
- Speed Cancellation - very useful against speedsters
- Time Dilation Field - for trapping someone and I think that one would be the best
I've also seen other advancements of this power like being super fast or teleportation.
The future!Phoebe powers remind me of the comics where she DID get that power as the timeline caught up with the timeline of Morality Bites

Uh.. I never thought of that! I hope someone responds with an answer, because I'm really curious how that work! 🤯
Hmm..
Please so a video on Brad Kern
Ooh, there's no denying that he deserves a video exposing his bs! He's such a little weasel!😤
(who was the one who was frozen while the clock chimed, not Matthew)
And if Piper's powers had expanded to be able to speed up time as well, to the point where it can combust, then that would have worked just as well as the molecule explanation, if not more so.
Another example would be The Stillman Sisters.
What did you think of the CW Charmed's take on Temporal powers? I greatly preferred their range of powers.
Uh you mean the reboot? I tried to watch but couldn't stand what they did with it, so I didn't get far.. 😓
Tbh i actually liked mels power progression but sadly it was a bit weird. Her original power was temporal stasis but exactly like the original her power grew to molecular abilities like generating heat and ice. However her ability to time travel made up for this. The only thing i never liked was how when they grew new powers, they lost their original one.
i just thought abt this yesterday out of the blue
Hahaha Paiges power could be called Molecular orbing 😂😂😂😂
See? That's kind of what I mean about trying to force it on everything.
Omg stop 😂😂 Just like what wyatt did to the dragon. He "added orbs into the dragons molecules and combusted it" giving him what u call "molecular combustive orbing" this was so stupid why are they expanding this ability EVEN MORE.
Well put. I enjoyed this video
Thank you! ^^
Constance worked on the 3rd season
But she was no longer an executive producer, which I think the screenshot I included shows. Instead she was an "executive consultant" until she finally left the show for good at the end of season 4.
Hold on, I agree with the molecule thing being stupid but I don't agree that the powers didn't make sense. If any power didn't make sense it was Prue's astral projection(yes there is a decent explanation but if you think about it long enough you'll find that every power is connected somehow). Anyway what I am referring to has to do with astrology because the girl's personality are heavily based on the modalities of astrology. There are 3 modalities in astrology(and no their birthdays don't align well with them):
Cardinal(the first signs of the seasons - aries, cancer, libra and capricorn) - what these signs have in common is that they're initiators of change and Prue fits this quite well. According to the show she's a Scorpio but the personality she has is very much Capricorn - grounded, in control, ambitious, hard working, gets things done well, professional... And her power of telekinesis literally allows her to initiate a change in the environment. This is why to me astral projection for her makes no sense. That fits mutable more(we'll get to that soon)
Fixed(the second signs of the seasons - taurus, leo, scorpio, aquarius) - what these signs have in common is that they try to resist sudden, unexpected change, if they haven't envisioned it. And that's what happened to Piper, her anxiety turned to anger
Mutable(the final signs of the season -gemini, virgo, sagittarius and pisces) - these signs adapt to change somehow.
That would have been really cool! Plus I'm sure at some point Piper could have learned to reverse it as well, and turn back time as a result!
What about phoebe Levitation piper got new power because going kill prue
Yeah.. the only reason I can maybe see that one is because of Morality Bites, otherwise it really makes no sense for her to be flying around like that, haha.
@@weirdlybeloved Holly Marie Combs did not want to do fight sense so written give piper that power
@@toddbeaton1512 Uh.. okay? I'm not sure what that has to do with levitation, though.
@@weirdlybeloved I don’t why show give phoebes levitation power Alyssa wants a know power
At least I think so :-)
Like I commented on your previous video, a bigger plot hole problem concerning the powers that I have is why does Melinda Warren have all three of these powers, and why do all of her family members that come after her, that are supposed to be stronger than her, have only one of them?
And agreed!
@@abbysands9510 I would have loved to see Piper learn how to manipulate time like that! It fits her personality and abilities so well!
@@weirdlybeloved Agreed, that would've been so cool.
@@FateTheWinx I watched the show so much as it aired. Being kinda in love with Alyssa Milano after Who's the Boss will do that. XD
@@Caexkepesk I LOVE rewatching charmed. I never get bored of it! And I love finding the mistakes in episodes even if I dont remember most. 😅
Those points are both explained in the show, though.
the molecule thing makes no sense when piper blows up the clock it didn't speed the clocks molecules up? a clock dosen't have molecules
Right?!
also even if it is speeding up time how does speeding up time make things explode? also wouldn't everyone near her speed up? because she is making time go fast
@@DillonHall-jz6bj Her exploding power seems to be localized, so it's very possible a power to speed up time could work the same way?
@@weirdlybeloved but don’t you think they had a right to be selfish though after all they went through ?
But thank you!
@@FateTheWinx Well, I don't think Anton's "I love having this power" would make sense then. Anyway, the time travel and molecule things are so weird.
