Thanks Binayak Shah! Allen had to fly from LA to Europe the next day for a tour so only had one session to film this in; he did a brilliant job (lovely Redplate tone!) and he does like to chat theory so I'm happy to provide him with harmonically interesting tracks to play on!
After hearing his explanation I realise I need to get my shit together theory wise! Wow, great playing, would be amazing to have all that theory under your fingers, and also have such great feel and play so naturally. Excellent!
Superb musicianship as always. They way he brings the theory in, but keeps everything natural and flowing is magic. Does anyone know what amp he is tracking with? It looks like a Super Reverb in the background, but is it modded?
Thanks for getting Allen Hinds, Jason! You always make the perfect backing tracks for such great players. That looks like a new Xotic guitar, or maybe his old one repainted? Oh, and please get Brett Garsed back as well!
Glad you like the first video with Allen, Paolo! You saw the previous six part Guitar Techniques series with Allen a couple of years ago? If not, they're all on my YT channel here. Yes, that's his signature Xotic guitar; looks great, sounds fantastic! Brett - another awesome musician and really nice guy too. Brett featured in a six part series in GT in 2016 and we're coming to the end of his new eight part series now with Back In The Day (gorgeous slide playing) and Grind (modern groove that he solos over with great style). Again, both of Brett's GT video series are on my YT channel so if you've not seen the 14 videos (!), I'd recommend making a huge pot of coffee - there is lots of watching and learning to do!!!!
Jason Sidwell I did see the previous Allen vids, but didn't know there were more! So nice to see him with that '55 conversion LP. I haven't seen all the new Brett vids as well, I only saw the old ones and part of the newer bits! You're right with Brett's slide-playing, he's ridiculously underrated on that! Hope he releases a new album soon. Out of curiosity, how do you decide which backing tracks to use for each player?
Yes, I've worked quite a bit with Allen and Brett; both wonderful musicians and really lovely to collaborate with. My tracks are freshly written specifically for the artist in mind, born from my appreciations of their usual style and where I'd like to see them go. My biggest interests are from a rhythmic and harmonic perspective as players like these really excel when there's colour in the music and they've the space to explore within the 2 minutes duration. For the reason of space, I'm careful with what guitars I put on a track (often none at all, sometimes just acoustic) so the music isn't overly crowded. The final results - especially with Allen and Brett - are mini pieces that feature guitar performances that are vibrant, brimming with wonderful articulation techniques and richly melodic. BTW, if you've not checked out Andy Timmons - Jubilant on my YT channel, you might like that too!
Jason Sidwell I see! I can definitely hear what you're trying to do. The chords are very colorful, but they flow nicely. The outside stuff just seems to blend in! I actually have seen the Andy Timmons video (in fact, I saw him live just a few weeks ago, what a lovely guy!). I commented on that when you posted saying that it's nice to hear AT play over those kind of changes, it's very refreshing!
Re; Andy - Indeed you did, I'd forgotten! Yes, Andy's another great guy, fantastic guitarist and fun to work with. Re; chords - creating bespoke harmonic worlds is fun! More videos to come; there are several 'new to GT' artists with tracks of mine in their studios, schedules permitting!

Raymond, Allen really likes Red Plate amps these days.
Thank you for the info. The Red Plates are awesome amps, I’m not surprised he uses them.
