  • NASCAR, known for its high-speed races and intense competition, has unfortunately witnessed some controversial moments throughout its history, marked by race manipulation. Among the worst instances were those involving intentional actions aimed at altering race outcomes. One notable incident occurred during the 2013 Richmond International Raceway event, where Michael Waltrip Racing attempted to manipulate the results to secure a spot in the Chase for the Sprint Cup. The team orchestrated a scenario where one driver deliberately pitted to allow another to gain positions, ultimately leading to penalties and fines for the team. Another infamous moment unfolded during the 2019 playoffs at Martinsville Speedway, where a late-race caution was triggered by a driver intentionally spinning to benefit a teammate. Such instances not only tarnish the sport's integrity but also spark debates about the need for stricter regulations to ensure fair competition in NASCAR.

the fact that an entire season's outcome can be changed by a single race being manipulated is pretty indicative of how awful the playoffs format is

Everyone forgets that Ron used to intentionally wreck Kyle in the cup series and cost him a points championship. He even went as far as doing the same thing during Kyle's rookie year because he accidentally bumped him Ron intentionally spun him under caution and destroyed his car.

I personally enjoy seeing Denny Hamlin getting a taste of his own medicine. He races everyone dirty but when he does it it’s completely okay because that’s how he is. So any time Hamlin gets taken out I smile.

The sport as a whole is rife with executive meddling. 'Debris' cautions were replaced by stages and competitive cautions. If we're going to get into manipulation and you lead with that, this video would seriously be over four hours long. Sure, these moments are blatant on-track shenanigans, but let us please not gloss over the dam of legitimacy that NASCAR has long since broken.

Yes, but those were legally done by NASCAR as rules changes. These were cases of blatant cheating.

Hamilin holding up Ross in that race wasn't funny it was a favored driver intentionally ruining the day of a capable driver who didn't have a hurt car. All because of an incident involving that driver and the favored drivers car he co-owned. That's complete favoritism because if it was anyone else who did the same thing they would have been fined and suspended.

some of these don't seem like they should be considered illegal.... why shouldn't a driver be allowed to give up his position to a teammate? what's the point in having a teammate if you can't co-ordinate on things like that? and why is blocking another car from passing yours considered race manipulation instead of just defending your position?

NASCAR rigs many races, that's all too obvious. The one that comes to mind was when JJ and Logano were on the last race racing for a championship, Logano had a commanding lead JJ nowhere to be seen. Caution comes out for "debris", on the restart JJ came out of nowhere to win. SO MUCH BUNK!! This is by no means all of them. Jr. also admits to changing a race outcome.
SADLY "fans" will cheer their "popular" driver no matter what he does wrong. Elliot.
