I have 92A1 with maybe 500 rounds through it and the block can slide out without the pin removed. Its not easily removable but it does get wedged and can be frustrating at times

You can in fact remove the locking block without removing the pin! In fact several of my 92’s the locking block will sometimes fall out when I’m cleaning the gun!

Can I recommend that you guys do some close-up shots of what you're talking about with the Locking block and the pain and exactly how you're supporting it. Thank you, David.

For such a video, a close, detailed view is necessary! I can't believe the poor quality of instruction in this video as a result of the omission of close-up shots of what is being done.

@He101A We don't think that's the case. While there will be some degredation of the rifling at 20k-30k rounds, it would be so slight that most would be hard-pressed to notice. A 25-yard group might (literally "might") open up from 2" to 2.10" or 2.20". In most service pistols, firing standard ammunition, the last part to be visibly affected is generally the rifling.

I have found that most average quality video cameras can be used a short distance from the subject and can actually be focused. Maybe audio only instructions might be easier to produce next time. Was the Beretta corporation actually behind this?

That's funny, last year I bought an M9a1 and I thought the locking block was supposed to come off with ease because when I was in the Military in the early 90s my M9 was so loose that it just fell right out. Haha

I’ve found different versions of the locking block and the pins though. The pin groove in block are different. As well as the pin. One having a more narrow pin and groove. Is that a generation thing?

I have a 92FS, 9 mm. Nice gun, however after 50 shot I noticed pitting on the frame grove above the trigger area. Stopped using it, called the customer service and they asked me to send it to Beretta back east for inspection. That was about 5 years ago! Recently cleaning up my safe, I retrieved it and call authorized Beretta gun Smith in southern Calif and the gunsmith told me not a big deal Try shooting some more and it should be OK. Dis 50 more round, went back home and disassembled it for cleaning and noticed pitting got really bad. Please let me know what need to do and what the problem could be?
    Thanks

What would cause a bullet to not go into full battery on a 92f i think i just had this happen and it caused the fire mechanism push out the side and the bottom side of the bullet had a hole ini it after i fired it.

I got my barrel back from Beretta today. The new locking block was installed and the ding on the rail has been repaired. NO CHARGE ! I'm surprised to say the least. I haven't fired the weapon yet but the action feels smooth. I know that they redesigned the locking block to make it more durable but it has more play in it now. Just cleaning it before assembling the weapon the block slid to one side and jammed. I think this part needs to go back to the drawing board.

  • @BerettaCommunity

@dynosaur This is a misconception that was started in the early days of the gun. In the 15 years I've been in Beretta, the company has not recorded a single such incident.

Huh? Used to take these things out BY hand for cleaning at my former depts range! Thats when we were issued the 92FS- did something change? I know that part cracked TWICE on me, thank God it was again at the range and not on duty! Went Glock for 21 and 23 for on and off duty after that......

i have a beretta 98 FS stainless steel made in 2016 , i didn't shoot to many rounds with it about 1500/2000 r, I noted that the looking block started to loose the chrome finishing expecially from the side , it is normal ?

When I was still in the military we had (5) M9 pistol locking blocks fail I one day during firing on the range. I absolutely love this pistol but lost faith in it as a reliable sidearm. Because of the locking block issue, when the 19th SF Group deployed overseas, the unit armor included 150 spare locking blocks for replacement purposes.

Someone told me that the Beretta only had a service life of 5,000 rounds. The 92 had problems with some frame cracking that really didn't affect reliability. Then the Tomcats began developing frame cracks that caused malfunctions. I have an INOX 92 and I love it, but I've been told not to fire +P+ 9mm in it. What's true today? Are the guns built any tougher now and what is a good guesstimate for service life? Are plastic frames really more durable than aluminum?

    • @1978garfield
      @1978garfield 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think any manufacturer recommends +P+

Recently Bought Metric Roll pin and punches from Brownell for my new Italian version .
Instruction Booklet says 2mm punch must be used to remove roll pin in locking block .
WRONG it is to big and bent like a Banana. finally used Harborfreight 1/16 punch but that just smashed the center of pin out , had to clear out debris on side with a drill bit and replace pin with a tiny nail used for hanging pictures.
Brownells charges over $60 after postage for four punches that are very poor quality

  • @nascarFergie

I broke 2 punches trying to remove the pin. Thanks to the block of wood (recommended in the video) I damaged the end of the slide rail. I mailed it to Beretta, hoping they can salvage what's left. I'm not a gunsmith but I successfully do almost all of my work. It's ironic that of all of the how to videos on youtube, one from the mfg causes me problems. Hey at least I get to pay them $35 per 1/2 hr plus shipping both ways. Makes a guy wonder if that is the intent of this video?
