Yeah one of the best guitarists in the whole world Freddie Green commonly known as Dr Freddie may his departed soul continue to rest in perfect peace. He bought so much joy and happiness to us old timers
Super Combo was the best musical group in our dear land. Now this, their first ever track was the best for a very long time. Just don't know how I feel now listening to that sonorous voice of Jallohsco (RIP), the lead vocal for Super Combo again. Combo oh yea. May you guys rest in perfect peace. Amin.
Saudatu these days our musicians don't spend time perfecting the art. all they hear is a rhythm that sound good not the actual composition, editing, music and instrumentation. it's a shame really.
Musa K-Dabo Hey Musa K-Dabo, I'm working on "The Sierra Leone Story" (working title), a documentary film on our country. How can I get in touch with you please re. your musical input on Super Combo, your band Afican Connexion and any other related info? My email is cumale@aol.com. Thx-Kwame 'Cumalé' Fitzjohn
I remember these guys in Kissy. When I was a boy and living at 25 Lunar street Kissy, I used to pass by their house on Percy street when going to school or to the market. In the evenings I will just join my colleagues outside the building listening to them practice. We used to shout COMBO O YEAH! OH YEAH! No party or disco used to be complete without this track. It was indeed a classic. The group's downturn started with the mental problems of the lead guitarist Freddy green.
OMG! That the time of my elder brothers nd sisters, still remember my sister use to sing this music nd i love to listen it from her..Thanks for old time vibes.
Oh my God ! Allah bless our Country again sweet Sierra Leone, when ever I listen to this song I always remember my date Dad may his soul Rest in peace he was so fun of this song.
My brothers Zainu and Musa, I can not agree more with you bros, you are so correct on this 100%. Super Combo was the best in Sierra Leone in the 70s, the best vocalist and guitarist, those were the good old dayz. Memuna's was composed by the one and only, late Jallohsco for his late sister in-law.
+James Walton Ingham James ask Emile it was Freddy Green. I have the original version. this was 1967/68. Emile joined combo in 1972 with his brother Dwight Ogoo and Ken Jones.
Ah! Len! He and Emile spoke on the phone recently. Both awesome players. I will be seeing Emile this weekend. Mamadi Camara was visiting him recently and it was great picking up some music history first hand.
+James Walton Ingham Mamadi and Len as well as Emily, in fact the whole of old and new super combo musicians are personal friends of mine and played in my band African Connexion when we made 'E Sidom Panam' man dae bottom. likes of jallosco, akim janneh, bobwin, sidiki, peku, bankie, bockarie lassan. combo in Bo town used to hangout at Orbangs place. do you want more? me broda salone na beautiful country.
This was in the days when the Sierra Leone currency was one Leone to 75 cent, in US Dollars. It was good; our beloved country was beaming and reasonably prosperous; we had fun. Let us be hopeful as Sierra Leoneans that the goodness of the distance past, I mean learly fifties to mid seventies; will come back in the name of the Almighty God our redeemer, for whom nothing is impossible.
There is only one Redeemer, and that is the Almighty GOD. The creator of the whole universe, the one who can give us back those glory and great days, or golden days of our lives. God does not need an assistant to run the Universe He Created for His Servants to enjoy.Thank you God. Sierra Leoneans will always be in your Kingdom, because we all love you so much.
