      @@Ryuko-T72 yeah, all sorts of whacky stuff you could do in it. A buddy of mine designed a very thin, 3 block thick ship, a litter wider for its length than normal, and basically rounded off the front for a very hydrodynamic, according to the game, ship. He reach 180 knots, or about 400 km/h, in a ship with multiple 480mm turrets.

    The builder reminds me of Simple Planes with the adjustable block and how you install weapons, props, and other parts. It’s mostly designed to make planes and land vehicles. Ships are possible but trying to make them float properly is a pain.

    • @00dawn
      @00dawn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, I was just about to mention SP!
      I found that making ships in SP is the easiest when you split the hull in 2, horizontally. The bottom half should have the fuel, while the top half should have the buoyancy.

    • @pinnedthrottle7690
      @pinnedthrottle7690 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@00dawn I never considered that. I usually split it right down the middle to form a left and ride side, then I would fill the whole thing with fuel and add one or two of those orange floatation blocks and hide them somewhere in side the hull. After a while I just saved a prebuilt Bismarck model and swapped the rocket that were in place for the guns with the newer cannon system they have. It works fairly decently.

    I dont know if someone already wrote, but an elevator elevates the ammo and the charges from their safe storage place, at the bottom of the ship, to the guns. If it is broken, the shells have to be transported manually and the guns have thus a lot lower fire rate

It is complex and difficult to figure out its also not user friendly and there are not a lot of in depth tutorials on how to really get the ship to what you want. To be fair, while this is very interesting, the point of UA:D is being able to easily design ships without going miles into the smaller details.
    While it does have a lot of limitations, it allows for much faster creation, whereas this here is much more in-depth but require more time investment.

    • @rinjaniii326
      @rinjaniii326 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      TL;DR: Theres a diffrence between a pointless time waster, and an enjoyable time sink.
      A *slight* time investment, of which, rewards you with the possibilities of making whatever you want. Lets see anyone else playing UAD say that.
      Already, this is a much, much more friendly creator simply because of that "smart block".
      UAD, youre stuck with whatever/whomevers "artificial" limitations on what is and what isnt, resulting in a niche that only very few would be able to enjoy, neglecting the masses/more general audience
      In UAD, you see one class of ship, youve seen it all.
      I *wish* i can sink more time in UAD, but in what feels like less than 12 hours of playtime _after_ i bought it, ive already reached its (botched) limits. *And that was years ago*
      Even now after numerous updates, its still (relatively) the same thing, as how the game was in its earliest build.
      Avorion, for one example, doesnt suffer from this. I mean, whens the last time you see people making a ship that looked like someone elses?
      Besides, if that is what youre up to, you can always download someone elses ship, and tweak it to your liking should you want to. Thats the beauty of it.
      I mean, hey. If were talking complexity, at least its nowehere near FtD levels.
      Ill take this anytime of the week

      I think the bigger point here is how UA:D is lacking things like making multiple classes of ships or deciding what are your enemies all that much. UA:D Also lacks any sort of sharing or saving your creations. Naval Art has all of this, and it's little things, sure, but it makes a giant difference.

    You should try the aircraft wave mechanic. Pick a ship with some AA, load it up in the designer, go into the test mode. From there you should see an island a bit to your front right. An enemy seaplane spawns there, let your AA shoot it down. Once that is done (there is an airfield to the far right) aircraft waves will start spawning to come and attack you.

    I have been playing this game a few years now (I got it for about 5€), and I can say if combat is what you want, this Game isn‘t that great... at least for now. I think that has to do with the way the damage system works. It also is a very annoying to build a ship with a good armor sheme, that looks good. If you want to have 410mm of belt armor, you have the Option of either making the entire hull block 410mm, wich makes it very heavy, or sandwiching a light (5-32mm) hull block between two very slim armor blocks. That makes your ship lighter and makes it possible to have actuall armor... but making those blocks for more advanced hull designs, where blocks a slanted in more then one direction, is just not possible. I think a different way to set armor values to blocks would fix it.
    I would still recomend to get the game, because it has just tones and tones of potential.

    "NavalArt - The Designer Dreadnoughts Should Have Had"
    Go ahead showing a complete nightmare design process to make one ship and complete ignoring the fact the AI would never be able to use the same system.
    The concept is cool and interesting but is not what is needed for UAD.

    • @Stealth17Gaming
      @Stealth17Gaming  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dreadnoughts did have a system such as this in its initial trailer

    • @thebaron6481
      @thebaron6481 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Stealth17Gaming not the same thing and is easy to spot the differences.
      Here is the trailer: th-cam.com/video/ws7uRKuWCyo/w-d-xo.html
      The initial concept for UAD evolved around the idea to give the player the option to select pre fabricated hull,guns, superstructure modules to design the ship in a simple way that could be done in a few minutes. You were not designing the hull form, height , width , shape anything. Big difference.
      However this system have big flaws and i suspect that was the reason why the devs changed to what we have now.
      If you look careful in the trailer the modules being swapped are all in the center and what they have in common? The beam and hull shape is the same. It was a very limited system that was impossible to use to replicate the more modern ship hulls in a ship like Bismarck as an example.
      So they replaced by the system we have now. You select the ship hull/form and is the tonnage that will set the ship length, beam. No crazy time spending in designing the hull shape, propellers, etc...
      And the hull already comes with places available for the AI to use them to place the other modules. A easy and friendly system for both the player and AI to use. Works both aways and that is important for what UAD wants to achieve.
      You could argue the AI is still making dubious decisions when designing the ships and you are correct, however it can work with that system. Now with this one you are showing is impossible.

    I think I will stuck with Rule The Waves 2....campaign, strategic trade-offs with your actual fleet composition, fleetbattles, long long compaigns, synergy between different ship designs that can stretch over decades.
    While lacking in some area's, (although tbh I don't really consider graphics that bothering) it's still a well thought out game where you can easily sink everything between half and hour or entire weeks in.
    I not really a fan of such high detail graphic design, because in my experience you start to standardize extremely fast whenever you get a little bit more serious in such games. If this is a proper physical simulator, you start to gravitate very soon to standard proven solutions or don't want to spend hours of messing around with details if you want to try wacky concepts.
    In my experience as an engineer, creativity starts to flow when you impose constraints and thus challenges to overcome, especially when it is coupled with a relative short cycle of build and test.

    a looooong time ago I played a game called Fighting Steel, a surface warship game with no subs and aircraft carriers. just guns and guns and bigger guns! and I always wished that there was a program that would let you design your own ship, train your crew, and fight others online with it. this looks closer to that dream than UAD!

    Please note that developement in this game is quite slow because it's all done by one person. If you're expecting this game to become fully ripe in the near future, don't buy. If you like what you see already and are able to wait a few months for new, minor stuff, then I'd recommend picking it up

    TBH, if it weren't for that adjustable hull block, this would be a game that I might get, but would rarely play. That is hugely valuable, such a time saver!
    But I agree with Francois Levasseur: The point of UA:E is simply different, they aren't entirely comparable. UA:E is more strategic, while this is more engineering. I feel that the two would complement each other well.

    This is unrealistic because (1) the commander of the ship doesn't personally aim the guns, and (2) leading was done by mechanical analog fire-control computers, NOT by humans manually guessing where the target would be (as that would be too inaccurate). An ideal game would take the good features of this, plus the good features of UA:D plus the good features of Rule the Waves.

    Very nice just bought mine today and started my first ship - HMS Incomparable - so far still on the lower hull section - used 51 pieces for 90m x 358.5 meters and nearly 19k ton - lower hull section is armoured to 16mm amde of 18 sections 30m x 45 meters then the next section is full width by 4.5m - 33 sections with 5mm armour as this will be internal
    There are lots of possibilities with this once one has got ones head around the design process

    If you love this game, there are one or two mobile games that I’d like to suggest, which are similar in terms of building. However it isn’t as simple to build nor is it as visually pleasing as Naval Art but you can still make beautiful ships.
    It’s called Naval Craft but is a much older game. That’s **not** to say that Naval Art is worse, because it isn’t. It’s simply…simpler, sort of.

    There was a game on the Apple App store over a decade ago called Battleshipcraft that I played all the time as a kid then it got taken down for some reason and soon after replaced with what was literally the same game called Warshipcraft which I then also played a ton of. Like I never jailbroke my device and earned everything without paying as I was still just a kid to the point where you can only earn a max of 8,000 in-game currency from succeeding in the hardest mission and I grinded a full month in that game until I finally made a ship that was worth 54,000,000 in-game currency. Called it the USS America because of how many guns I slapped on it as well as missile launchers (this wasn't the only ship I made just the most expensive one). But then about 5 years ago I moved on to android and haven't seen anything like that game sense and so I just waited and hope that something like that game eventually came to pc or android which after these years I stumbled upon this video and got a massive rush of nostalgia and I toughly look forward to playing this game.

    You are also forgetting UA:D probably isn't trying to be a game like this, and focuses more on making it easy for someone to design their own ships without having an engineering degree. UA:D is also in Early Access and they add more and more hulls, weapons, and designs as development progress so you don't give it the credit it deserves...

    I like it as a sandbox modeller where I can build a ship I like. However I feel ultimate admiral has a more realistic engine behind it with the level of statistics it plays with and factors it takes into the build. Also the damage model and gunnery is way more realistic. This reminds me more of world of warships.
    Still though, the fact that this is a solo project from 1 guy is astounding. I think I may get it, if for no other reason then to 3D model my ship design for drachinifels next ship design challenge.

    hey can you make one of my ship ideas called: the albert entinsine class us super battlecarrier! its basly 2 us nimitz class carriers put on the sides of a ideo class battleship with a few aegis cruisers to fill in the gaps in the back stern of the hull! it has to have one nimitz on the left and one on the right with the catapult and runways ponting into the front bow of the ship! but it's the aircraft runways have to be like 10 meters below the ideo battleship gun decks on the sides! also the large 10-12 inch guns can be rail guns and most of the smaller sub capital 4-8 inch guns all must be replaced with cities and lasers! however if there's no mods with railguns and lasers then just use the ideos class normal guns 10-12 inch guns! but make sure all of the sub capital 4-8 inch guns on the ideo gun decks are replaced with ciwies! and if there no SM-2 missile launchers yet then replace that with a lot of helicopter decks on the aegis back missile decks instead! until sm-2 launchers are either added in mods or in the base game sooner or later! i also want to see that ship in a new video to see what it could work in a ship battle!

    In real life while its still in the testing phase as far as I know but modern warships will sometimes have propeller shafts that double as rudders meaning its the propellers that rotate to turn the ship instead of conventional rudders. Does this game have that? Also what gun sizes are available? as my crazy battleship design i told you a bit about will have 20 inch guns so it'll be an insanely huge ship.

    you can get more parts such as engines and nuclear power with mods that are easy to install and created by the community
    to work the aircraft you need to place on catapaults onto the ship with aircraft and press T to open up RTS mode where you can use them and you can then select which aircraft you want to use and choose the aircfart target and you can have them return to the ship they launched off of.
    when you load the community ships you have to save them like a ship you create to be able to use them in battle.
    The game has a 'realism' feature where if your ship is too heavy it can sink and if you have too much horsepower and you ship isnt heavy/big enough you can mke your ships do backflips. it also has a gallary feature where you can display all of your saved ships and you can actually walk on them
    Well the main thing is the only limitiation is your imagination
    and if you have more questions you can join the discord server for Naval Art and ask them there
