Ningen Isu has been around for a long time. i know for sure about 35 years. they just haven't gotten a lot of exposure in the west. they are excellent.
Guitarist is born 1965 and he is the oldest of them. Ningen Isu is amazing. Another band with "old" people is the Japanese all female metalband Show-Ya. Keiko, the singer is born 1963 ( the youngest in the band I think ) and that band has existed a couple years more than Ningen Isu. Both great bands! Check out the new song Eye to eye with Show-Ya! Ningen Isu and Show-Ya is the oldest bands from Japan still playing (what I know) only beaten by the Japanese band Shonen Knife that plays "bubblegum pop punk without attitude", they are so sweet and always make me smile with their music!
Obviously these men are not near as old as we were previously told. In fact, they’re only about 6/8 years older than our own children. For that we apologize. These guys were my introduction to Japanese rock (via my grand daughter) back in '90 or '91. Now my great grand daughter calls them 'pa-pa rock' when we listen to them. I hope to hold my great great on my lap to listen too some day. The two guitar players both do lead vocals, I give the bass player the edge in that category.

Ningen'isu, lit. "The Human Chair") is a Japanese heavy metal band from Hirosaki, formed in 1987 by Shinji Wajima (guitars and vocal) and Ken-ichi Suzuki (bass and vocal). They took their name from the 1924 short story of the same name by Edogawa Rampo
The guitarist and bassist have been friends since high school and they have only changed the drummer. This current drummer has been with them since the 90s
Great review for a great band. They are in their late 50's and have been around since the late 80's. They are called the Japanese Black Sabbath and all three take turns singing. There are a lot of videos of them on TH-cam including full concerts going back to when the bassist had long black hair and the guitarist looks and sounds like a young Japanese Jimmy Page.

I 've been listening to this wonderful band for about a year now, and they are awesome, they are a bit younger then me (I'm 60) they have some blistering live videos to react to, The Guitar/singer looks like a Meji period Scholar and the Bass player looks like a Ghost monk vibe and the drummer like a gangster, Love from Minnesota (the good part), they have been playing since the 1980s

I always recommend these guys. I'm glad you reacted to them. They do have subtitles in English so you can listen to what they say. That song was a great message about questioning fate/luck/destiny. It keeps asking higher powers why they don't get what they thing they deserve, and ends with them passing on a message for the future. And the bass player? He's what's known as a Death-touched Monk. The drummer is styled as a gangster. And the singer/guitarist is a Edo era scholar. (At least I think it's Edo era....Might just be a classical scholar look)
Been together 30 years. They are dressed as a Yakuza (drums), a monk (bass) and a 19th century teacher (lead guitar). They are incredible live. Their lyrics are very deep and are often about their Zen beliefs.
It's funny that you ladies mentioned Metallica, since these guys actually are a slightly younger: the guitarist/singer and bassist both are 56, and the drummer is 55. They've been around since the late '80s, although the current drummer only joined in 2004. I only got to know them a few years ago from this very song, but they absolutely rock. It's unfortunate that I didn't go go to their first ever European tour early 2020 since I planned to visit Japan (yes, really) at that same time. A trip which I first had to postpone and later cancel for obvious reasons. There are a couple of live videos on TH-cam, and they absolutely deliver! As for more Asian music, I think you might also enjoy Hanggai, a Chinese band blending Mongolian folk music and modern rock. The Rising Sun is a good starting point.
Got this rocking group of like 60 year olds, give or take, and then got Take The Day which straight up just look like a band of middle-aged dads rocking :). Like in their Song For The Broken music video, they really just look like bunch of middle-aged dads got together to rock :).
Wow, this is one of those songs I immediately like on first listen :) I was not sure if I would like it while hearing the introduction but then they really blew me away :) I hope their other songs are like this one :) BTW: the singer is awesome but it made me think, how many musicians and lead vocalists have worn glasses? Some I can think of off the top of my head include: Buddy Holly, Ian Paice from Deep Purple, Roy Orbison, Ray Mansarek from The Doors, Elton John, John Kay from Steppenwolf (but I am not sure if they were sunglasses or prescription sunglasses) and others.

Thank you for reacting to one of my favorite bands. Other songs you may consider (as others have mentioned) would be Namahage, The Colour out of Space, and Toshishun. At the Mountains of Madness is an epic, atmospheric performance featuring an appearance by an uncommon instrument. Or you can go way back and see them in the beginning with Hari no Yama (search for 'Ningenisu Harinoyama' for an early live version).

This is just really a cool song and video. The band has a lot of talent for sure. Probably not something I’d go out of my way to listen to but still really fun to listen to. We hit the 80 degree mark here today. I’m not sure why we somehow basically skipped spring entirely but I guess that’s just how it goes. We did Zeit by Rammstein by it was blocked right before airing time. We haven’t done Zick Zack or Angst but I’m sure we will soon. Rammstein is one of our favorites but are becoming increasingly hard to get uploaded. Why? Who knows. You’ll see other reactors with their reaction up and then we’ll be blocked. At the Mountains of Madness is an epic, atmospheric performance featuring an appearance by an uncommon instrument. Or you can go way back and see them in the beginning with Hari no Yama (search for 'Ningenisu Harinoyama' for an early live version).

This is just really a cool song and video. The band has a lot of talent for sure. Probably not something I’d go out of my way to listen to but still really fun to listen to.
We hit the 80 degree mark here today. I’m not sure why we somehow basically skipped spring entirely but I guess that’s just how it goes. Tomorrow starts the craziness as from now until Saturday we have something going every single day. Lydia has two appointments, Nora has an entire day of appointments, and then Saturday we get to bring our newest fur baby home! So it’ll be a good week but very busy. We did Zeit by Rammstein by it was blocked right before airing time. We haven’t done Zick Zack or Angst but I’m sure we will soon. Rammstein is one of our favorites but are becoming increasingly hard to get uploaded. Why? Who knows. You’ll see other reactors with their reaction up and then we’ll be blocked.
