This episode is an absolute gem...perhaps my favourite episode full stop. When the walker dodges Jesus and daryl can't distract the heard... absolute chills!
Jesus' character was wasted in the show. The actor, Tom Payne, actually learned martial arts for his character, but they barely used him so he asked to be killed off. In the comics, he played a much bigger role in All Out War and even attacked and subdued Negan. In the show, he was basically just Maggie's errand boy.
@@Ram.21. That was such a powerful introduction to his character when he singlehandedly fought off Rick and Daryl without even breaking a sweat. They only overpowered him when they got him at gunpoint. I was so stoked for his character given what I knew about him in the comics. Then when he killed the Saviors to save Glenn and Heath at the satellite station. Man, was I was hyped for this character, only to be disappointed. As I said above, he just became Maggie's errand boy and nothing more. I kind of wish he would have embraced the role after the actress who played Maggie left and fully took on the role of the leader of the Hilltop, which he was at the time of his death. But he was already ready to leave the show.

It’s unfortunate that this was the last great mid season finale in the show. Angela Kang had her back against the wall with Andy and Lauren leaving and she absolutely killed it with this episode, as well as this season with the beginning of the Whisperer arc. It sucks she couldn’t keep up this momentum for the rest of the series though.

This episode is one of the scariest episodes of The Walking Dead. Even though I knew who and what the Whisperers were, the show had it’s very own way in introducing them, even making the comic-audience interested in this episode. Especially the scene with Eugene explaining that the walkers are going in circles around the cabin he was hiding in, made me and many more people watching the scene feel uneasy. And the fact that our characters thought the walkers were evolving, because they have never been confronted with such a situation, is also a thing that the show-audience would find the most sensible answer to this paranormality.
This episode, the Grove, and the ep when beta infiltrates Alexandria were the most frightening episodes (to me), with Connie having the most terrifying individual scenes due to the nature of them being *mostly silent
I was extremely skeptical of the show when Carl was unceremoniously killed off and all but convinced that it was done for when Rick left. Even though the series undeniably suffered from losing its two most pivotal characters, I was really impressed by just how much I enjoyed Seasons 9-11.
I honestly love your breakdowns of the walking dead so much!! It provides so much in depth thought of the story and highlights the change of tone throughout the whole series.
A shame it went downhill after this again. The Whisperers revealed themselves too soon and after this episode and Jesus' death they were never as scary again. It became action over horror and all the mystery and terror of the Whisperers just went out the window as so many red shirts threw themselves at the protagonists who killed them with ease and they massively underutilised the very tactic that made them so horrifying in the comics: hiding among walkers and the suspense and fear of knowing any walker could be a Whisperer. The characters figured that out pretty quickly and straight away learned they're just people wearing walker skin masks and they look so obvious it's like a child dressing up as a ghost. This episode and the penultimate episode of the season are the only ones that really captured how unpredictable, dangerous, and terrifying the Whisperers are, and that feeling of the unknown, being stalked and that they could jump out and kill you at any time like Viet Cong hiding in the jungle
@dimitrescu182 I just don't think they are good at writing wars and making entire seasons out of them. Theyre good at creating tension building up to a conflict, but the conflict itself takes too long and has too many working parts. Idk, in Game of Thrones it works, because it's a large world with warring factions and political intrigue, but in TWD, characters are just making dumb decisions and shooting people for 16 episodes. Like, the conflict in 3B worked because it didn't drag on, unless you count 4A as it dragging on to conclude in 4x8, which I don't. 3x8 the two factions (The Prison and Woodbury) collide, and throughout 3B they attack eachother, make plans, make deals, and some characters go rogue, and it ends in a way that's unexpected. Instead of having one big battle where one group eliminates the other, the just drive the Governor out and he kills all his own soldiers, then they take in the people of Woodbury, and a whole new conflict plays out in 4A against a non human enemy. And then the conflict against Terminus lasted literally 3 episodes. The horde in S6 dragged on a bit but at least it was over in 9 episodes. But the Savior war was set up in 6B, built up in S7, and took another whole season to play out. And like S10, there's a lot of filler and soap opera drama, procrastinating and characters going rogue and doing dumb shit that gets everyone in more shit, until they're ready to just take the war to them
Season 9 really brought the show back for me. I still stuck with the show when watching seasons 7 and 8 when they aired but between the slow pacing, walkers being less of a threat and instead background noise and tools in the All Out War storyline, and a number of characters leaving like Glenn, Dwight, and Carl, along with learning that Rick was going to leave, during those 2 seasons I was close to being done with the show. Thankfully season 9 made a comeback and is one of my favorite seasons of the show.
Also want to mention that fact that this would realistically happen of the world was like that. People would end up going crazy and start wearing zombie faces in order to survive and start a new cult.
The tension was clearly because everyone wanted to take violent revenge on Negan and Michonne followed Ricks wishes an keeps him in a cell. In that 6 missing yrs. There could b other issues that contributes but the main issue has gotta b Negan.
I have a personal theory that the walkers in Fear TWD that there are variants because of how frequently the plot points/tense moments revolve around walkers being agile or actually going up stairs. Idk if there are any other layers to this but rewatching it with this in mind gives it a whole new vibe

This is one of the best Mid-Season Finales of the Show. Definitely in my Top 5. Part of me misses having to wait a couple of months in between the Mid-Season Finale and Premiere.
I hadn't read the comics when this episode aired so I legit thought the walkers were evolving and I loved that. The reveal that it was people underneath made it even more terrifying.
I think considering rick not being in it past episode 5 and just the fact it's the 9th season it's surprising how good season 9 is,it's one of my favourites along with season 2
This was the last episode I remember watching. I was so excited for the idea of actual variant walkers only to be crushed to find out it’s just regular ass people
I absolutely loved season 9, i think it doesn't get the loge it deserves. It's my 3rd favorite season behind 6 & 4. Super good, and compared to the 2 seasons prior to it, it was a pretty great pick up in quality. It also brought such an interesting, like you said medieval vibe to it, which i loved.
Season 3 has always been my favorite because the prison arc is when I was introduced to the show so it has a nostalgic place in my heart of that feeling of waiting for a brand new episode every Sunday (and a TWD marathon every weekend just to lead into the new episode...good times) But in terms of storytelling and pacing, Season 9 absolutely takes the cake imo. Ironically, taking Rick out of the equation was a good move. Even tho characters like Michonne and Daryl were still main leads with lots of screen time, the show was able to let newer or different characters get more screen time like Judith, Magna's group, Henry and Lydia, Alpha and the Whisperers while other main side characters like Jesus, Aaron, Eugine, Gabriel and Rosita all got something to do this season Plus the Whisperers were just a breath of fresh air and provided such a tense atmosphere for the second half of the season. Every episode would have us asking "are those walkers or whisperers?" What a time to be a TWD fan tbh. Angela Kang replacing Scott Gimple as showrunner was absolutely the best choice they could've made behind the scenes!
Love these type of videos bro. Would absolutely love to see you cover the the two governor backstory episodes in szn 4. He’s one of my fav characters and would like to know ur thoughts on his character’s decisions and thoughts
Yes this is when my faith was restored in TWD! But I knew it was the whisperers cause I read the comic & when Eugene said it I’m like oh. But it’s really is a stretch to say the walkers can evolve when we saw their brain activity in season 1 & over time rotting wouldn’t have it more active. They should’ve went with something like the virus mutates & newly turned walkers are more smart & strong. But yea I was hurt when we lost Jesus & like you said him thinking that his friends & family are doomed.
Nick From The Original Fear the Walking Dead Series was the First Whisperer. Back in S2, He Was Stranded In Mexico and was chased by a Mexican Drug Group. He Ran further into the desert and finds a Horde and Used His "Blood" Technique. He Talks With Walkers and Walks with Them, leads them to the group that attacked him and also found a Cult that Thinks that same way he does. If U Watch Season 2 Of Fear, U May Get "Spiritual/Mystery" Vibes, The Way Mexicans And Nick Himself See Those Walkers Made Me Realise something. And That is, The Idea of Walkers Evolving and Regaining Their Human Knowledge is 80% Possible. First Off, In S9 - 10, When Someone Is Leading A Walker (Like a Whisperer), He/She can make The Horde Talk just by Speaking. Also The whole World Beyond French Vaccine Incident Forced me to create a theory (or maybe it isn't a Theory) and that is, The Vaccine was An Immune System Booster, since this is The Walking Dead we're talking about, People acted dumb and injected it into a walker. This IG boosted the Walker's Immune System and turned him into a Runner, an Evolved Intelligent and Fast Walker. Also In The New Rebooted Version Of Fear the Walking Dead, Walkers Acted Intelligent When Exposed To Radiaton. Alicia Made A Theory that Walkers Still have Their Human Intelligence. Radiation Worked As A vaccine for a While In S8 as seen with Dwight Using it on his Bitten Son. Also don't forget Variant Walkers In S1 - 3 Of TWD And FTWD. S1 Of Both Shows Showed Kinda Intelligent Walkers S2 Did The Same But S3, Remember that scene with Merle And The Gang Escaping Woodbury?, S3 Of Fear, Episode 1, The Mexican Walkers Sneaked Up On Troy's Militia Episode 3, When Daniel Was Praying, The Walker Stared At Him with Confusion but then God Hits It With His Lightning. Episode 12, When Troy led The Walkers To Ranch And Alicia Had To Defend It, Walkers Were Literally Crawling and Pushing The RVs with their Mights, Grabbing People Aggressively. Episode 13, With Nick And Troy Tried To Led The Horde Way, They Accidentally Damaged Their Truck and had to Go To the Broken Helicopter, A Walker Grabbed Nick's Grenade Launcher. (I didn't watch S7 because it was shitty) but some episodes in S7 showed a Walker Smacking Someone's Gun. For Me, My theory with the Wildfire Virus are Simple. 1. Some Countries Wanted To Resurrect Their Dead Soldiers so tehy probably Made a Virus That Would "Revive" it (it could be from Earth, Space, Oceans), Obviously it didn't work cause it only revived the Brainstem and Gaved It's hosts an Unending Hunger For Flesh. 2. The CRM Created This Thing so that they could rule the world but it obviously backfired.
@gfilmer7150 tbh, I'm kinda glad that They Ruined Fear the Walking Dead. I Can't Picture Nick being Evil, He has a Genuine Good Soul. Same with the Others.
Just when I was pissed about Rick leaving, and I thought I'd stop watching after, they did that! Dear lord, that freaked me out. Hell of a start to a really cool story arc.
ima be a broken record but man this time skip would’ve been a great way to justify the Chandler being older than comic Carl. The Carl Judith Dynamic could’ve been the heart of the show.
Loved this video, perfectly describes this period of the walking dead. I started watching the walking dead 8 months ago on Christmas Eve, so I was really new to the whole twd universe, knew nothing about the comics etc. I remember watching this episode and being so excited for the evolution/variant path that they seemed to be taking, when it turned out to be humans behind masks, I'm not gonna lie, it definitely did disappoint me a little bit. Obviously my opinion changed as the season went on, and I ended up liking the whole whisperer story too but I still always thought that the evolution/variant walker story would be so cool also. I still think this, hopefully we get some variant walker action in the new spin offs. I hope it is a larger thing and not just a side thing that they shrug off again because I genuinely think evolution/variant walkers has so much potential. Anyway, great video!
Can you do character analysis on the governor? Or a analysis on Rick and Hershel’s relationship? Also have you ever watched Sons of anarchy? If you have could you do some videos about that show? And more Game of Thrones stuff
I think Jesus didn't need to die. But I can't even have an opinion on the season finale, it was literally the most shocking thing ever, despite me knowing that those incels from the hill top were probably gonna be there, every single foreshadowing of the next head and then it being shown literally took me OFF GUARD. I can't even decide if them being killed was a good or bad decision.
The reason season 9 had the biggest viewer drop off was because fans got tired of the plot being the same over and over and refusing to progress the plot due to milking the show. The main reason people was intrigued is because we thought they would've progress to the point seeing different walkers and what caused the virus. But 11 seasons in, nothing is answered, and to make it worse every season was the same, the group had to fight a dictator. Its hard enough to watch 11 seasons of anything, but 11 seasons of the samething it becomes extremely boring and predictable. It also shows the dispect to the fans by only thinking about milking your loyal fans
Probably my fav post rick ep, them not knowing wtf is happening with the talking walkers is the most fantasy horror its probably been since the start, when the effects, and gore were still entertaining. The negan intro finale is probably the only other ep that got me in the same dread feels.
I think it would be so cool if you made a “what if” series… I’ve seen someone do it with breaking bad, where you make a chain somewhere and see how the story would have changed… like what if Shane killed Rick… or what if Carol never lost Sophie etc… and then you say how you think things would have played out Idk i could just listen to you talk about twd all day 😂
I really enjoyed this episode, it was probably one of my last favorites. The atmosphere was perfect. Totally spooky. Only downfall would be Henry.. that kid was unbearable. I couldn’t stand him.
I had so much hope for this episode, I was so excited to see zombie evolution, whisperers are cool and all but actual variant walker possibilities would have been limitless.
I thought season 9 was a great way to restart the show. I felt it was almost a second peak. Yes Rick left but we knew he’d be back. The whispers came in, and we got Negan’s redemption. We were eating good
Alot of people think Jesus death was cool and all but I personally think it's one the most worst deaths in the entire series. I don't buy that Jesus would get countered like that lol sure he would. Someone like him would have instinctively countered back from a basic attack like that. Regardless of being surprised of the situation. Plus what a waste of a character. I thought they were finally going to utilize Jesus more in Season 9 against the Whisperers but nah just kill him like he is nothing. Not like he is overpowered or a complete badass or anything. Nah none of that lol he should have become a main stay character on the show like how Father Gabriel evolved from Side character to Main character.
I wish TWD ended differently. Never read the comics but Carl didn’t die in it. That’s enough for me. 😂 I wish they did have evolved walkers since that was the first season. Who else remembers them fast walk/run? To adapt to that a decade later would’ve made all the characters rethink about fighting them. And then the multiple time jumps! Rick is like 65 if he comes back.
During this time in the show, i Was honestly dissapointed they revealed what the whisperers were so early, i wanted, lore wise for the characters to continue thinking the ealkers were evolving, AND irl, for those who knew nothing about the comics, to also think they were evolving
Once I fought through the previous 2 or 3 seasons I was pleased with season 9. I tought the show would be In trouble with Rick gone. But to be honest I really enjoyed the 9th 10th and 11th season. I did not miss Rick and the show was In my opinion so good I could binge the show once again. Saying that I'm shore the show would of been good with Rick. But i feel the other cast got to do more and the new bunch that meets Judith In the wood all did good for me. Now iv never seen Fear or world beyond. And as a fan I wish Amc started the spin off with dead city. Iv no problem watching the story and us finding out more from original people rather than new show with new cast. Iv see alot of people not liking fear so I'll not watch it. I usually look at recaps so I'll know if something important happens. But one thing I'd like to see in future is more of the original cast In spin off people like Judith and people like Aaron and stuff. I feel I'd like to see them in the new Daryl show if he returns to the USA after France and I would love to see Rick and Daryl meet up again because they are like brothers
my parents stopped watching around the began line up and i got them to watch the show again just for the satisfaction of watching their reaction to this episode/the whisperers

I also really love the intriguing symbolism of a person nicknamed Jesus being murdered in a cemetery by a person pretending to be resurrected dead!
I absolutely loved season 9, i think it doesn't get the loge it deserves. It's my 3rd favorite season behind 6 & 4. Super good, and compared to the 2 seasons prior to it, it was a pretty great pick up in quality.
It also brought such an interesting, like you said medieval vibe to it, which i loved.
cant wait bro love you and your videos :)
Season 3 has always been my favorite because the prison arc is when I was introduced to the show so it has a nostalgic place in my heart of that feeling of waiting for a brand new episode every Sunday (and a TWD marathon every weekend just to lead into the new episode...good times)
But in terms of storytelling and pacing, Season 9 absolutely takes the cake imo. Ironically, taking Rick out of the equation was a good move. Even tho characters like Michonne and Daryl were still main leads with lots of screen time, the show was able to let newer or different characters get more screen time like Judith, Magna's group, Henry and Lydia, Alpha and the Whisperers while other main side characters like Jesus, Aaron, Eugine, Gabriel and Rosita all got something to do this season
Plus the Whisperers were just a breath of fresh air and provided such a tense atmosphere for the second half of the season. Every episode would have us asking "are those walkers or whisperers?" What a time to be a TWD fan tbh. Angela Kang replacing Scott Gimple as showrunner was absolutely the best choice they could've made behind the scenes!
been waiting for this one
The scariest is the Ferals that Connie and Virgil find on "On the Inside" would love a vid on that
Love these type of videos bro. Would absolutely love to see you cover the the two governor backstory episodes in szn 4. He’s one of my fav characters and would like to know ur thoughts on his character’s decisions and thoughts
Every time you say “waiting for Jesus to come back” 😂
i love this episode so much and i already know this is gonna be a w video
Yes this is when my faith was restored in TWD! But I knew it was the whisperers cause I read the comic & when Eugene said it I’m like oh. But it’s really is a stretch to say the walkers can evolve when we saw their brain activity in season 1 & over time rotting wouldn’t have it more active. They should’ve went with something like the virus mutates & newly turned walkers are more smart & strong. But yea I was hurt when we lost Jesus & like you said him thinking that his friends & family are doomed.
another amazing video, much love from canada!
this ep really showed you the world at its most scariest season 9 underrated af
Also The whole World Beyond French Vaccine Incident Forced me to create a theory (or maybe it isn't a Theory) and that is,
The Vaccine was An Immune System Booster, since this is The Walking Dead we're talking about, People acted dumb and injected it into a walker.
This IG boosted the Walker's Immune System and turned him into a Runner, an Evolved Intelligent and Fast Walker.
Also In The New Rebooted Version Of Fear the Walking Dead,
Walkers Acted Intelligent When Exposed To Radiaton.
Alicia Made A Theory that Walkers Still have Their Human Intelligence.
Radiation Worked As A vaccine for a While In S8 as seen with Dwight Using it on his Bitten Son.
Also don't forget Variant Walkers In
S1 - 3 Of TWD And FTWD.
S1 Of Both Shows Showed Kinda Intelligent Walkers
S2 Did The Same
But S3, Remember that scene with Merle And The Gang Escaping Woodbury?,
S3 Of Fear,
Episode 1, The Mexican Walkers Sneaked Up On Troy's Militia
Episode 3, When Daniel Was Praying, The Walker Stared At Him with Confusion but then God Hits It With His Lightning.
Episode 12, When Troy led The Walkers To Ranch And Alicia Had To Defend It, Walkers Were Literally
Crawling and Pushing The RVs with their Mights, Grabbing People Aggressively.
True that. That's what Dave Erikson was planning, for all of the main characters to become villains from the main show.
@gfilmer7150 tbh, I'm kinda glad that They Ruined Fear the Walking Dead.
I Can't Picture Nick being Evil, He has a Genuine Good Soul.
Same with the Others.
@@PaxBWithU89th Madison and Travis, it was a bit more explicit. Madison has a lot of qualities that The Governor had.
@gfilmer7150 oh Yeah, Nick was supposed to leave The Main Cast because of Madison Turning into Walter White 2.0
Amazing video, keep it up!
sitting here 20 minutes early with coffee being made, speaker on and home alone. i’m ready and excited to see your thoughts on this episode!
Just when I was pissed about Rick leaving, and I thought I'd stop watching after, they did that! Dear lord, that freaked me out. Hell of a start to a really cool story arc.
You gotta do a breakdown when Connie is in the haunted house with the canibals
Am I the only one that finds that episode to be cheesy lol like some kids show or something
@@MistahJay7 no! It scared the crap out of me and I had to cut it off!
ima be a broken record but man this time skip would’ve been a great way to justify the Chandler being older than comic Carl. The Carl Judith Dynamic could’ve been the heart of the show.
Going to rewatch it now friend
If you liked this era you would like the rick era
@@madmonty4761 As in the new rick spin off?
Can you do character analysis on the governor? Or a analysis on Rick and Hershel’s relationship? Also have you ever watched Sons of anarchy? If you have could you do some videos about that show? And more Game of Thrones stuff
Honestly, Hershels impact on the group as a whole. He was basically everyones Grandpa by the end.
“The CW cast” ahahaha 🤣
Alright, you've convinced me. Marathon time.
Probably my fav post rick ep, them not knowing wtf is happening with the talking walkers is the most fantasy horror its probably been since the start, when the effects, and gore were still entertaining. The negan intro finale is probably the only other ep that got me in the same dread feels.
So horrible to lose Jesus. This episode did make TWD scary again.
The way i actually got freaked out when the walkers were hunting down Rosita and Eugene
1:50 got me dead😂
finaly a video of my favourite episode. wish i never knew about the whisperers or saw any trailers, would have enjoyed the show so much more
I think it would be so cool if you made a “what if” series… I’ve seen someone do it with breaking bad, where you make a chain somewhere and see how the story would have changed… like what if Shane killed Rick… or what if Carol never lost Sophie etc… and then you say how you think things would have played out
Idk i could just listen to you talk about twd all day 😂
I watched Evolution today and bam I found this video. Awesome day!
Thanks for doing TWD content man
Great episode
I really enjoyed this episode, it was probably one of my last favorites. The atmosphere was perfect. Totally spooky. Only downfall would be Henry.. that kid was unbearable. I couldn’t stand him.
The thrifty testicle 😭
This is a rewatch x 100 for me. I absolutely love this episode
At least Jesus had the best death on the show
Please cover coda! One of the most underrated mid season finales.
Oh boy you’re gonna hate my take on that episode then 😂
@@thethriftytypewriter Nooooooo😭 I’ll be watching anyway lol
I love he makes fun of the cw while also starting a 15 season long cw show
I had so much hope for this episode, I was so excited to see zombie evolution, whisperers are cool and all but actual variant walker possibilities would have been limitless.
I thought season 9 was a great way to restart the show. I felt it was almost a second peak. Yes Rick left but we knew he’d be back. The whispers came in, and we got Negan’s redemption. We were eating good
Easily my favourite episode of the show
Episode 15 the calm before is also brilliant
I agree
The only flaw was Jesus's death if you are a comic fan but still a good episode.
Yeah this ep was one of my favorite eps even this late in the show
Both you and Wow Such Gaming make an episode each about this exact same thing within hours of each other? WHAT?
“Back on the cw” 😂😂😂
that walker that looks up at the start is the same one that kills jesus. u can also see lydia in the start of the episode
Variant walkers in TWD make no sense how do zombies that are actively decomposing develop muscle mass and have their brains evolve?
Back on the CW - gold!
I wish TWD ended differently. Never read the comics but Carl didn’t die in it. That’s enough for me. 😂
I wish they did have evolved walkers since that was the first season.
Please do 'We Are the End of the World'! Always thought this was the scariest episode in the second half of the show.
They need to do this alot more when introducing new villians they need a big character to die
I remember watching this live and seeing Jesus die was a top 10 maybe even a top 5 most shocking moment on the entire show for me
you should do the episode with connie and vergil in the house with the savage people
Yes! That episode was so creepy!
@@jenniferreinhart7670 i watched it at like 3 am with headphones on it was terrifying
my parents stopped watching around the began line up and i got them to watch the show again just for the satisfaction of watching their reaction to this episode/the whisperers
one of my fav episodes
Being released on my birthday
As in tomorrow? Happy early birthday!
Season 9 was dope
Back on the CW lmao
Pog innit bruv fam
Love the comic series, gave up on the show about a decade ago and I am just absolutely digging going through your videos yo. Great content for even someone who didn't keep up with the show🫡
i think that you should do 02x11 judge jury and executioner
