Me, I’d honestly hate the movies if I watched them. Watching movie recap shows the good and interesting and “juices” of the movie. And evens helps us understand the meaning. I’ve watched the recap than movie, the movie is almost never as good as the recap. It’s like the recap hypes it up a lot but when you watch the movie you realize how slow it is or how fast it all goes by or how many useless scenes were added just to stretch the movie. Without movie recap I’d hate so many movies

Right? And she feels indebted to him when really her getting caught was the fault of his kind. And nothing about that relationship was romantic 🤮. He was using her for sex.
@Aluzky... I genuinely think you need to rethink your thought process here and what you're defending. You cannot be aware of the fact that this character has the intelligence of an animal and then defend the man having sex with her. That encompasses so many different things, zoophilia and litteral nonconsensual sex because a creature who is essentially an animal cannot give consent.
@Aluzky eww... You litterally described this character as being an animal, comparable to a wild cat and less intelligent than a human. Now unless you believe that wild cats can give consent to having sex with a human please stop defending this shit, its kinda creepy.
@Aluzky, your comprehensive defense of this man and elaborate intellectualization to justify behavior that every decent person watching the film would inherently condemn, says more about you and your own degenerate nature than anything related to the film. You're siding with the only actual monster in the whole tragic play. Gruner is a man void of feelings, after he lost his wife, he lost his humanity. He's a broken shell of a man, and spending so much time in isolation drove him insane. His character is the basis for the title of the film. The worst thing in this world is intelligence without compassion, who wounded you to such a degree that you side with villains against an honest reaction of the events portrayed?

What we can gather, is that these sea creatures were simply aiming to reclaim and avenge the pain of Aneris. They are capable of rational thought; and as Friend began to show kindness to the Toads, they begun to return in kind with lessening attacks. Gruner seemed to have been trapped and never shared in the curious compassion for the toads. He saved one and was subjected to persistent attacks. Finding his only solace in the toad female's company. He did not want to be left alone; as humans are not made to be isolated without another. Before Friend came along; he had nobody to speak or depend on. So his anger, loneliness, and fading memories would consume him. Friend taking over Gruner's position opens new light. He retained compassion, love, and humanity to see the pain and problem before him. He wanted to uphold his duties, and fought purely to survive. But he wanted to see what exactly they desired; and with it begun to discover that these monsters were simply seeking to rescue their own. When Friend created the peace offering; and tried to treat Aneris with respect. He opened the door to a new unity; and revealed the true monster that was Gruner. the man that nigh lost all humanity and sense of self. The island's isolation had created a monster and with what brief clarity; he submitted himself to his punishment. Friend, becoming the new Gruner did not lose his compassion. He upheld his true duties as the Lighthouse Watch. Where the monsters would cease their attacks; and the return of Aneris to the sea was the wrong made right.

Watched the movie, and it’s not really about the creature being a mating slave. The creature is a subset of human species that evolved in a pocket ecosystem away from other humans and is more marine based and cold blooded. One man sees her as a slave or a pet (he once refers to her as a dog) and he uses her for many things including healing his wounds and for sex. The other man is afraid of her at first but they form a bond and he starts to see intelligence and emotion from her. By the end, he is respectful of her species and wants a truce with them while the other man just wants to kill her species and subjugate her.
It's the cycle of life. Man meets Fish girl - Man plows Fish girl - Fish girl gets knocked up - Fish girl lays eggs in the sea - eggs hatch and quickly grow to Fish son - Fish sons gets teenage angst - Fish sons wants to confront deadbeat dad - Dad does not see family resemblance and shoots the b@stards - Dad starts feeling horny. Then the cycle begins again......

I just watched the movie. And you asked really great questions. I think I need to read the book to see if there is more of an explanation to everything. I did enjoy the movie tho.
This reminds me of the origins of the Sub-Mariner, the prince of Atlantis and half Atlantean. Basically, Namor’s mother was a princess from the sea who slept with a sailor. This is like a dark take on that origin.
Aneris is Sirena backwards which means mermaid in certain languages. But it derives from the Sirens, the Mythological creatures that killed sailors with their voice.
There are. Theres already plenty of media that does all kinds of abuse. Sexual abuse is the one that most people seem to think is simply inexcusable to explore and would rather ignore it exists yet you'd be completely fine if it was physical abuse like whipping, beatings or drug abuse that are just as unpleasant to watch. At that point we should just ignore every form of abuse since they are all unpleasant. Just grow up. It happens. Its happened to me as well as many others.
the logic of the sea creatures is top notch.. throw endless hordes to get killed, and at the end call for a truce, rather than simply, just stop visiting/attacking the lighthouse. Logic 100. Guess they aren't as "civilized" or intelligent as the dude thought.
The film is nothing like the book. The book is more gruesome, for example: when they collect the dynamite they use it not to end the "citauca", because they accepted they can't, but to kill as many as they can just for maddening bloodlust. Oh, and they agree to take turns with Aneris, there is no jealousy involved. It's very crazy, primal and animalistic. I like the book a lot.
Funny how they said they have limited ammo but yet go months fending off attacks with bullets almost every night. Do they have a bullet tree planted somewhere or wat? 🤣
What I really enjoyed about this story was how the Syren's call lured her own people OUT OF the water to die on land, when in myth they lure humans to die in the sea. And it really seemed to me like she was certainly less intelligent, but clearly inhuman in her motives and attitudes. People ascribe all kinds of meaning to her actions throughout the fiom but nobody tries to put themselves in her shoes for real: she's a Syren/Syrena, who according to myth serves a consistent function of luring sailors out of their ships with their songs and beauty. What if her kind does this reflexively on behalf of whoever they're pair bonded to? What if she had no real control over it? So many fascinatinf questions that get drowned out by the, 'Eww, he's a fish-loving sexual criminal!' Obviously he's not all together, but what about HER? Was actually an interesting film to think about from her perspective. Lots of opportunity to reflect.
@@ComicGladiator what's it like being in idiot? Humans are an out of control species with to much power that will destroy anything if they're not criticized and made to reflect. We're literally worse than animals if we don't ruthlessly self reflect.

An amazing fable with a real moral. SPOILER: This movie clearly points out two different kinds of men for some deep soul searching introspection. We realize shortly into the film who the real monster is. The older man is hardened by loss and shuts down, no longer seeking truth but has reached a satisfactory conclusion in his own mind of who the creatures are and what the world is...which in fact is his own delusion and is a lie. This hardened man cuts himself off from any true connection with others and relies on being the master of his own mind for a life of dread and misery. The other man, whose younger, first tries to appease the "brave" man and kills the monsters. But he is not hardened and is a truth seeker. He is curious, wanting to explore and know deeply the truth of the female, the creatures and of the world. His love of truth keeps his heart pure and we discover who the real couragous hero is, the one who puts down his sword and loves, loves, loves.

Me, I’d honestly hate the movies if I watched them. Watching movie recap shows the good and interesting and “juices” of the movie. And evens helps us understand the meaning. Imagine just killing every creature when they’re just answering their lost friends cries for help. She’s saying come get me, this human is nasty. They’d go if you gave her back! She feels indebted but she knows this is some weird and wrong shit. And she was basically RAISED by this man. Weeeeird, that she is basically his daughter, pet and slave and he is fine having a romantic (but seemingly nonconsensual) relationship with all three versions. Humans really piss me off when I see movies like this.
@Aluzky ew.

But why did he stay? He’s just gonna be alone unless Aneris comes back to visit with her people.

"giving her the impression she's different from the others" BOY WHAT??!!!! lmao

These two researchers had enough ammunition to start a mini war!!!
I audibly gasped when he shoots the baby creature running.
This is so typical: the man starts his encounter with these species with aggression, yet these species are called monsters.
Thats the point of sobversion in fiction
What's it like to loathe your own species? I imagine it's very lonely.
@@ComicGladiator what's it like being in idiot? Humans are an out of control species with to much power that will destroy anything if they're not criticized and made to reflect.
We're literally worse than animals if we don't ruthlessly self reflect.
Yeah, it's how colonization works

What good way?
this movie is garbage, not even worth seeing once. I want my wasted time back.
You are all right this movie is crap but it's also full of imagination and if it's what the writer wanted to express and managed to tell it then it's good he fulfilled the purpose.
Almost 16 minutes long this was… I sure am glad I didn’t suffer watching this long movie. What a relief in knowing!
Title pls

That's shockingly similar to robert patinson's the lighthouse from 2019 or so, but with more creatures
I was thinking the same thing when I saw this 😭
My respect for thanos does not grow everyday but every second
7:27 the creatures hand caressing his back while he's "thrusting" 😂😂
@Aluzky all pets do, they love feeling wanted by their master
I think when Friend saw that, he started taking a shine to the creature. He probably started fantasizing about having sex with it himself.
@Aluzky high five 🙏👋
Tbh I’m so glad you guys summarized it cause I would have HATED the ending…. What a sad existence
I'm glad you explain these movies in 15 minutes so I don't have to waste 2 hours of my life.
Beautifully spoken :)
Yhis 100% the amiunt comments who attack the film thinking its trying say guners a good guy is redicules
@@demonic_myst4503 those people need help. I feel like this movie really speaks to abusers and sexual predators, theres literally a dude in the comments always defending what that monster did.
