That is what mine does. Gaits then starts trotting!!!!!!! I raise my hands and can feel his footfalls change and he gaits again. This happens in a sidepull but recently I got a crossunder, and he seems to not as trot as often.
Mine also predominantly trots in the arena and roundpen as opposed to open pastures or paved/gravel roads. Why??? I was thinking maybe the dirt in the arenas and roundpens was too soft or deep gor them to be able to shuffle, but not sure if that is the issue.

Of course you don't want the pace. You want to stop and praise for the gait you want, whether that's the saddle rack or the foxtrot.
