Good Video, but I have something to add: besides going for a tourcard, there can be another motivation to go to q school, at least for mainland europeans (and there specifically for germans and dutch): only if you have participated at q school, you are allowed to play all hnq for the european tour events + don't have to pay an additional entry fee for each hnq. If you don't play q school, you can only play at two hnq and have to pay 125£ I think (not 100% sure) for each.
this is my dream, but not steady enough yet. Only playing darts for couple years my avg is most of the time 70 avg, but when i play against great players.. my avg is even higher.. I dont think im ready but i would like to taste this experience, wanna play better players so its getting the best out of me.
I see people saying like is a 80/ 80+ average a good average for Q school. You might not average that on the day. I feel like you could average like 80 in one match and like 89 in another match. I feel like it’s down to what you average on the day
I'm 22, working in bars and only started really playing in the last few years but daily since the first lockdown. I know I need a few years possibly of trying out pub leagues and getting proper games. Averages of 55-60 in 3 set games over the last few weeks so the progression is slowly coming. I'd love to go to Q School in a few years.
Really good video Mat, but I think "Everything you should consider to try to qualify for the PDC Pro-Tour" would be a better title. What I mean is playing to be allowed at the Challenge Tour or play all qualifiers for the Euro Tours are also reasons to play the Q-school.
Awesome video! I have a 5 years plan to go to Q school starting 2020, started playing darts avg 40s now im on the 60s, if i keep going with the same plan i should be avg. 90 consistently, and once capital control is removed over my country i will hit u up for a session! Thank you!
Great informative video mate. I have only been playing in a local league for 1 year (as a distraction due to my mum passing away suddenly), and found it actually rather theraputic to play the game and it has made me determind to get better. The same season, I have reached a final, and a semi final - and have been promoted from divison 4 to division 2 via winning a third place play off - and also to balance the standard of the leagues. Im hitting regular between 75-80 averages , and considered going to Q School. Your video has thankfully been an eye opener, and im far from ready - so thanks for that. I am trying to find other organisations and tours to possibly compete in - is there any that you would personally recommend?
I remember a q school game last year with both players averaging below 50 and many in the 50,60,70s. So I guess some players just want to gain experience
I don't think I'll ever be going. Even when I did play pub darts, my back leg involuntarily flicked out on every throw, thus I got given the nickname "The Donkey", and that summed up my scoring too really.
I'm sure people get bought there Q school entry for xmas because you see 40 and 50 averages all the time. I get between 70-80 average usually even the very odd 90+ at home but wouldn't even think about going Q school.
I want to know how the guys are getting on that received a tour card without any sponsors etc, can't remember names. One worked on a cruise ship. Took out a 167 to qualify?
Hi Matt, perhaps a bit off topic, but would you think the PDC should add Lakeside, especially with their iconic location, as a major to the tour? However, not consider it as a World Championship anymore. It is a shame that such an iconic event disappears.
Challenge tour is for the players that went to Q school that didn't get a tour card, from there you can also get a pro tour card by being in the top however many by order of merit
Tbf though, playing on the ProTour against players clinical enough to take advantage of opportunities is going to boost your average somewhat, plus a year on tour can improve a player too, it's funny looking at what the likes of Jose and Dirk averaged at Q-School!

I'd only ever go for the experience. Even if I improved enough to win a tour card and play on the tour I would never earn as much as I do in my existing career so it's pretty much pointless. I keep saying I'm going to go one year just to take it all in for the sake a couple of hundred quid but haven't done it yet. I will though, maybe 2022.

i played in a darts league and my average was about 63 accross a whole season of matches. I beat 80% of the players with that. For anyone thinking that is any good, a guy joined our team who regularly averaged 75, I could barely win a leg off him. He would go out on about 20 darts, me in about 24. So even on a good leg I would only usually get a maximum of two darts (usually one) at a double. My best ever leg was 15 darts. Lost interest after that.
