I watched the Spicer video as well it was a cracked weld/joint in the valve cover baffle which is positioned over cylinder 2, not sure if these covers are a composite material or aluminum.
Cover is glass filled nylon. I haven’t seen the baffle system up close, but I would imagine it’s steel or aluminum and then screwed into the underside of the valve cover.
now if we could get NHTSA to issue one for stretched timing chain. make the complaints to NHTSA people even if under warranty.
I just posted a video on this. The #2 glow plug failed because of oil passing through the camshaft housing. Bulletin 22-NA-027
This is a little different from that, this is just for extended coverage for the #2 glow plug only. Curious as to what is going on in #2.... The Cam Cover and #2 glow plug was the first issue from a few years ago. There was an injector and #2 issue as well...
@@DemonWorks ya thats odd. Thats just the issue i had with mine regarding #2 glow plug. Also had 3 and 5 replaced. I was surprised to see in the comments people having issues with oil consumption with the LZ0. I thought that was all worked out. Thanks for all the great info on these 3.0’s
@@SpicerDesignsLLC Yeah, it's interesting to follow. My prior LZ0 didn't drink a lot of oil but some... I am going to pay closer attention and document this new truck better. I am curious to see how yours improves with that new cover installed. I appreciate the kind words, needs to be said for your channel as well !
@@DemonWorks thanks! I appreciate that. I actually mention your channel in an upcoming video. I did an oil change with ams oil the ppe filter. You got me hooked on them. I mention your oil filter video where you chopped them all apart. Good stuff. Im jealous of that ZR2
@@DemonWorks The #2 injector issue was caused by the foam cover pinching the injector wire harness right next to the connector. TSB calls for cutting off a piece of the foam cover to alleviate the pressure on the wires. Pure coincidence that it’s also on cylinder #2 like this glow plug issue.
I have all these exact codes pop up on my 2020 lm2. Seems to always happen during the winter months. I have taken it in to my local gmc shop in the past and the diagnosis was an anomaly...so no fix to date for me. I havent noticed any down sides to it yet performance wise other then is it disabling my remote start.
Demonworks thank you so much for posting this, a check engine light comes and goes, drives me and my wife nuts. I for sure will be in contact with dealership!
Actually I want to add a question to my comment.
Does anybody have the engine light and code come and go and only get worse in the winter?
Then of course display these codes?
Got this a winter ago but did notice fans running fast. Got the glow plug 2 replaced while under warranty
I had the glow plug replaced about a year ago does this mean I should return to the dealer to replace this other part. I haven't had the codes since the fix and haven't checked oil use this far
no need to return unless you get the issue to return. there isn't a change, it's just a longer warranty for that specific part/cylinder.
Outside of this issue, are you seeing glow plug replacement on these 3.0 Duramax as a normal wear item? Seems like this issue is tied to the bad valve cover baffle plate, but outside of that have you been replacing glow plugs for any other reason?
Glow plugs with GM is like transmissions with ram. Its always been an issue for 30 years and neither of them seem to care
Tks for the heads up. So did they redesign it for the LZ0's or will we have this issue in the coming years?
I need to look more into it, just seems weird to me that it's 2020 only and #2 only ... there's more to this story...
LZ0 BABY 💪
Literally am having this issue and seen this pop up lol
I cannot find glow plugs for this engine Anywhere! Help!
I meant to purchase not location, I found them through O'reilly's (AC Delco brand) 69G. Your advise di help locate them on the Engine quicker though, thanks!
What a 2021? I have P0672 and P0673.. That's the only two codes I have, the truck will not start. I took it to the dealership. They said it was going to be 15k to fix. Got any idea?
Those are glow plug codes and shouldn't be a 15k fix. For 15k, I am assuming you had a fuel contamination issue as well?
@@DemonWorks The glow plug are just a little bit of my problem. I had a mechanic come buy, we did some testing. Its only pulling 1500 psi on the fuel pump. needs to be at least 4k to start. he said it could be the High pressure pump or a wiring issue. Got any ideas?
@@kodybarfield30801885psi is what’s needed, not sure where 4K comes from. 54-65psi needed from the low side pump. I would be checking the low side pump for operation as well as fuel check. May just have bad fuel.
@@DemonWorks ok, ill check that out and see what happens. ill let you know. thank you
@@DemonWorks Alright i can get the truck to start and idle with a little starting fluid . I' have let the truck sit and run for a while but once i start to drive down the road and try to give it more power the engine reduce power light will come on. I have to baby it home or it will die. Do you think it could be the fuel sending unit?
Spicer Designs has a nice video talking about his experience with this. Apparently there is a weak point in the plastic valve cover for this subset of 2020 trucks that allows oil into the cylinder which kills the glow plug and increases oil consumption, DEF usage, and regen frequency.

Bulletin 22-NA-027
Edit: from what I remember of the video, you have to have replaced the glow plug and still have oil consumption. Then you get the valve cover replaced to cure the oil consumption.
Just changed it out myself 🤦🏻 but do you have to pay the diagnostic fee and you don’t get it back?
That's the one. Thanks for linking it up here
Yeah, done that repair quite a few times as well. Only applies to the earlier models also.
I have a cylinder number 1 glo plug failure on my 2020 Silverado... what the heck ?
