Gavin was a friend during and after school and as much as it pains my heart to watch this as I knew back then he was struggling with many demons, it enlightens me to know that his talent is aired.I have watched and cried through this but I also reflect back on it regularly to remember the great guy he was.

Sometimes when i have doubts and feel the way only i know how, seems like Gavin just walks next to me with the guitar in his hand. He grabs me by the shoulder and starts singing, in that moment every single word of his poetry hits my soul and i know he can understand me the same way i can understand him...Although i never met him and i never will it feels like weve been friends forever. Thank you for the music Gavin and may God rest your weary soul

How did Gavin not make millions? I discovered his music late in life but count his CDs as the best in my collection.

I sat here and watched this film and with every passing minute I grew fonder and fonder of Gavin and really felt for him whilst trembling in the living room gig, Dead Mans shoes is one of my favourite films, but I never really thought about who was behind some of the sound tracks. So I must admit 45 minutes ago was the first time I'd ever known of Gavin or watched him play and sing. "What a really lovely bloke" I kept thinking to myself as the film went on, and near the end I was chuffed to bits that he was gaining some recognition and playing in Big halls. Then I read the blog under the title and was gutted to learn that he had passed away. I feel so sad even after only knowing of him for 45 minutes.. Bless him and his family.

I don't think I can add anything that hasn't been said already so I'll just say how grateful I am for the incredible musical legacy Gavin left behind and how sorry I am that he passed. Both for his family and loved ones and for the songs we'll never hear. A very special soul indeed. X

Dead Man's Shoes. brought me into Shane and Gavin Masterful Work . And my life changed forever. Watching this made me realise how close and beautiful there relationship was. My brother died 2 years ago and we use to play your stuff on our guitars and listen to your music everywhere we went on the road. I miss them times so much . Rest in peace guys and thank you for being a big part of my life.

On Monday morning (February 16, 2015), Gavin Clark shockingly passed away at the age of 46. A peerless songwriter and poet, Gavin is infamous for his work with Sunhouse and Clayhill, and had collaborated heavily with UNKLE. He is also much loved for his musical collaboration with visual director Shane Meadows on films such as Somers Town and This Is England, plus the recent live re-scoring of Dead Man's Shoes.

Gavin was my godbrother. Our mums were very close friends for years, Gavin’s mum + stepdad (my godparents) and family lived round the corner from the house I grew up in in Maidstone - lovely people, I have many fond childhood memories of them (most prominently borrowing their copy of Toy Story 2 on VHS on a regular basis) In fact it was Gavin’s younger brother who introduced my parents to each other and thus is partially responsible for my existence. As such I was brought up listening to Gavin’s music, and he remains and always will remain a hero. Sadly our families lost contact after we and they moved away from that neighbourhood, but I’m trying to get back in touch. I only wish Gavin was still around and that I could have known him better at the age I am now, he seemed like a truly lovely bloke just like the rest of his family. Rest well you legend ✌🏻

I first saw Gav with Clayhill backing Beth Orton at Manchester and his music and voice touched my heart, and touched nerves too. Raw and full of passion his lyrics were so personal yet were so accessible. Seeing this film makes them stand out more.
Gone too early and without the recognition that his music warranted. I went online to find new stuff and have shed tears to find the news. RIP Gav, I will miss you.

Tragic . So beautifully full of tenderness and crippled with self doubt . Such a loss . He was as relevant as nick drake and the singing poets of our time that also have seemed overwhelmingly full of beauty and pain at once -creativity . This world has lost a massive soul , he left us his voice , he lives on . With joy and pain- we listen . Thank you Gavin .

A really lovely film. I never had the pleasure of seeing him perform live, but have been listening to his music for many years and he deserved so much more success than he experienced during his life. I was so very sad to hear of his passing and my sincere condolences to his family. The quality of his writing was way up there with the best.

So so sad to hear of Gavin's passing. This tender film is a lovely tribute to a great, but truly underrated talent - he's written and performed on some of my favourite songs which will stay with me for my whole life. It's especially tragic that his death comes so soon after the release of Shane's film which you'd hope would only have helped to generate further interest in and success for Gavin. RIP an honourary Staffordshire boy.

Genuinely love Gav's music,he has an honesty and talent that has been seriously undervalued over the years. I would urge anyone to buy the old Sunhouse and Clayhill albums and not be blown away.if you get a chance to see him live (very rare) treat yourself, his soundtrack work for Shane Meadows films is beautiful,he is a very special songwriter and a perfect foil for the best british film maker in the last 15 years. If this sounds like a grown man being a fanboy, its because i unashamedly am.

What bought me here was re-watching excerpts from the seminal British film by Shane 'Dead Man's Shoes - have never felt compelled to comment before, but having watched this short film (& subsequently reading the comments) I am truly moved by Gavin as a funny, intelligent, human being a musician & a family man. May his star shine bright on the other side.

It's really great the way a chance meeting at a party and Gavin playing a song in a kitchen, gave Shane the reality that he was never gonna be a musician, but from this came a lifelong friendship and arguably one of the best singer/songwriter, and filmmaker to come out of England in the last 20 years, such a shame that Gavins life was cut way too short, and he never got the recognition in life that he so clearly deserved, R.I.P Gavin Clark, sadly missed but never forgotten, and to Shane Meadows I don't think that there is anything on film that he has made that's underpar, everything is great keep it up Shane, best British film maker out there.

I was lucky enough to meet Gavin Clark about twelve years ago after a Clayhill gig in Nottingham. The unusual thing about the gig was that Gavin stood to the side of the stage, letting the double bass player take centre stage; the effect was disconcerting. I had a drink and a chat with Gavin after the gig, and asked him why he did this? He said that he struggled with confidence and didn't like the audience attention on him. Despite his obvious talent, he was quiet, humble, and obviously lacking in the usual bravado, and self confidence, one might expect from a performer with his talent. I'm shocked to this day, that Gavin never got the breakthrough, or recognition he deserved.

Shane Meadows is the best, hes done what alot of British directors haven't. And that's staying true to his roots, he could have easily set each of his films in London like almost every other director, and instead he kept with the Midlands, makes me proud to be from there. I'd love to see him work with Paddy Considine again, Dead Mans Shoes and A Room For Romeo Brass are 2 of my favourite films, and are living proof that pure talent for direction, writing, casting, having a clear vision will always be more valuable than any kind of overbloated budget ❤

Just checking out to see the Latest about Gavin Clark and gutted to see he had Died, Seen Clayhill in Cork back in 04 perhaps supporting Beth Orton. My Clay Hill Stuff gets Played to death. Gad I got the Chance to meet the chap even for a moment or to. What a Shame..
