My friends and I once released the grey tempest, scourge and contingency all at the same time (we were using advanced ascension). They ended up killing each other.
I had a game where i was doing well building up fleets but the empire next door decided to get close to opening them. I declared war instantly ta try n wipe them out before the could but just when i had nearly cleared them up they opened them and all hell broke loose. I pulled thru but had ta take a long time repairing the aftermath
during my most recent game the khan happened, except is spwaned near one of the most powerful empire (at the time). said empire then proceeded to fight them alone for like 10 years, ended up being a subject to the khan, then the khan fucking died to a random commando. all the while my tall empire was too busy both spyig on half the galaxy and being on the other side of the galaxy to intervene (not that I coud've done much to begin with)
Fun Fact... The Nanites from the L-Gate are nerfed from what they would be in actual reality. YOu do understand that every single planet they consume becomes them so they can in fact turn those planets into more ships or even a single ship.
I’m thinking of getting Distant Stars for the adorable amoeba friend, but starting each game by running a query on the L-Gates outcome (determined by the seed) and then immediately deleting and recreating the save if it’s Tempest. A more drastic version of save-scumming the outcome. Or finding a mod that delays the AI’s special project
I opened the gate and unleashed the Tempest. I was able to prevent it from devouring my systems but the other side of the galaxy was getting eaten. I managed prep a fleet to invade the tempest along with a federation. Just right before I managed to prep the fleet to invade, the Khan woke up and he was right next to me. I had to move those fleets from the Gate to Deal with the Khan. By the time I crushed the Khan with decent losses, half the Galaxy was gone to the Tempest and it invaded my systems. I called it quits.
The problem with the tempest is that it can enter your galaxy through all gates at once. And if you're someone who likes to rush things you can open the gates after like 30-50 years. By then most ai empires will just crumble as their fleets are yet nowhere near what would be necessary to beat the 20-30k-stacks of the tempest. Perhaps a rework would be nice so this can only trigger during middle game. After one of my games got ruined by this I only open the L-Gates if i can beat their potential stacks. But if that happens the tempest is actually pretty helpful as they wipe all stations in their way and you can then just take them for yourself. Bordergory but you can quickly expand through all L-Gates at once.
Ok yeah I've never rushed that stuff hard enough. By year 30-50 I never really had more than 10k fleet power. So yeah no chance with that I guess. I usually open around 2300 when I am both safe in case of an attack (and don't find anything to research ASAP in the engineering tree)
the khans are a joke compared to the tempest. like the only game where I fought them, was when I had control of the entire federation's navy (a 200 ships death stack with over 75k fleet power) and had brought my fleets to fight a war and exterminate one of the neighboring marauding empire. needless to say. they ended up being one of my vassals very quickly
The Khan is fairly easy to counter with your own fleet designs, once you find out their setup. The Gray Tempest have difficult fleets to counter even if you know their setup, mainly because of their fighters that pierce shields & *armor* and their insane regeneration (2x per day!), their fleets use warp gates almost constantly, with a Titan that ignores shields and armor, and they are seemingly neverending. They are the real mid-game crisis IMHO. The Khan sucks if you're next to them... But the Gray Tempest sucks for everybody. 👾👾👾 Punching through their systems to kill the main control system is very difficult and victory once they've spawned is unlikely if someone has rushed this tech to pop the gates by year 40-50. 😢 Unless you're a strong meta-game player... Don't open that gate!! 😂🛡️🏯
@@MurseSamson I had to deal the Tempest. I didn't realize what I would unleash when I opened the L-Gate. I only did it because another AI was going to do it. I did it. I managed hold it from crushing my system but other side of the galaxy was not so lucky. I managed to get a fleet ready to invade when half of another AI's empire was gone. But the Khan woke up and he was next to me. I had move my fleets to deal with him. By the time I cleared him out, quarter of the galaxy was gone and the Tempest invaded my systems. My fleets were damaged as well. I gave up after that.
There was that one time the great Khan appeared in the middle of a devouring swarm. I didn't complain

The only proper way to play in multiplayer games.
and then the grey tempest destroys the whole galaxy. This is why I never open L clusters.
