We read about the story in the intro. The guy was super paranoid and was making the kid live under there for days at a time in bad working conditions digging tunnels underground. He would blindfold him to take him there and even told him they were in a completely different state. They would drive around for a couple hours like they were going to a different state. He would blindfold him in and out so he didn’t know even the entrance to the tunnels. He only saw the tunnels the whole time so when he came back and a fire had started and there was already smoke built up he had no idea how to get out of the basement.
