    There is nobody like Mr Rizer, a master of effects.

      Seriously. And a master of explaining them simply and pleasantly.

    love the way you use this pedal. the harmonies are just amazing. i use mine in a whole different soundworld, more fuzzy, overdriven, maybe even drone'ish way with a couple of projects on the works. stoner rock, with a touch on melody infuzed choruses, and another project that gets way more eerie in its tunes and vocals, could be called doom, but still not quite there at all. this video got me thinking that i need more pedals to play with my superego, so thank you for this eye(ear)opening video. very cool 🤘🏻

    Very informative video. It's nice you showed the chain with other effects. Also the different settings on the ego to get there.

    Holy shit! I actually had NO IDEA about the stacking feature in latch mode. That's perfect for what I do, so thanks very much for the insight!

    great video dude! those chords remind me of patricia taxxons - our axis, amazing song from his modern chord progression video, also hoghly suggested. btw have you tried squier VI or something similar? i think you'll very much enjoy it

    My god when you demonstrated the sounds with the H9 and mobius it instantly reminded my of the soundtrack to GONE GIRL by Trent Reznor ....Im a film composer and looking for new things and sounds to spark creativity. I just found it

    Brilliant review...I was looking at the freeze..a mel 9 and pitchfork with exp pedal but with the synth and auto latch functions on the superego (I already have pitchfork and love it) I think this would work better for my needs. Thanks again.

    I used to use this pedal for bass and I like the short echo mode where it sounded like a choppy robot but it broke and haven't thought about it till now

    Hey Zachary! Thanks for the demo! In the Auto mode, how did you achieve such good tracking? With my instruments it does not respond properly unless I boost trebles to enourmous values which makes the dry signal very unpleasant…

    • @ZacharyRizer
      @ZacharyRizer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Make sure you play very clean, no extra string ring, and make sure you fully stop the previous note to make the transients very separate.

    Great vid! Subscribed! Just bought the SuperEgo plus. Epic pedal. Has an fx loop so you can apply cool fx to just the sustained notes and leave dry signal untouched. Love creating synth pads and soloing over them.

    • @declandmcpake6296
      @declandmcpake6296 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah ok I kind of understand. Can you run through the chain? I'm trying to do a similar thing with my guitar. Running the superego into my boss dd7 delay, ehx small clone chorus and blue sky. Can't get that instant pad sound like you, it seems more delayed, I have to really strike the strings to get it going. Great video by the way, cant stop watching it

    • @declandmcpake6296
      @declandmcpake6296 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very cool, Im trying to recreate the sound at 7:35, i cant get that instant pad like you have, its like there is a slight delay in the superego kicking in. Any tips?

    • @acalmerkarma
      @acalmerkarma 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why two compressors at the beginning of the chain?
      EDIT: NVM I read OC-2 as CS-2

    as far as you know is there a big difference between the infinite effect on cathedral reverb and the freeze on superego?

    • @scottjennings2942
      @scottjennings2942 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mitja Rupel there is, with the cathedral you have to keep your foot on the pedal and with the superego you can select it to stay there without your foot on the pedal

  • @rhysgerwin4902
    @rhysgerwin4902 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey, Zach! Would I be able to perform the kind of Kurt Rosenwinkel H.O.G 2 effect, where he switches from the abrupt almost organ like sound then back to dry with the freeze function still holding the organ sound?

    • @rhysgerwin4902
      @rhysgerwin4902 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course he does haha! Still a great pedal and most likely what I'll buy for that effect at a much more affordable price than the H.O.G 2. I mostly want it for the freeze and the synth-like sounds are really just the cheese on the potatoes so to speak. Your review was by far the most helpful for me by the way so thank you!

      Great demo Zachary! Interesting. I'm a bassist and have the Superego on one of my boards, although my set up is a bit more "basic" without a loop system. Unlike other EHX pedals, I just never understood (other than cost relative to design) why they did not incorporate "preset" switches in their synthesizer based pedals. I know they Superego came out quite a few years ago, but yet with all those great sounding new 9 series pedals- B and C 9, Key 9 Mel 9, and the newest Synth 9, there are NO presets! I love them but you have to bend down to change a knob setting. Just not great for live gigs- pain in the neck!

    • @KarnEvil4
      @KarnEvil4 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea they have some other great "synth" oriented pedals with LED presets like the Ring Thing, Ravish Sitar and POG 2.! I have the POG 2 with preset functions-great! My Cathedral reverb does not even though it has the LED's. I even asked EHX if they could "mod" the "infinite/tap" hold switch to act as a preset switch. No can do! They gave me some techno mumbo jumbo answer. Now, if I was a famous musician, would that be different? LOL Makes no sense to me. Considering the 9 series pedals are the same price point as the POG 2 etc., you'd think they would have made that a definite feature! Hmmm!

    • @the1trueporkchop
      @the1trueporkchop 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zachary Rizer thanks for the quick response. I agree, the freeze/gloss features sounded better through the superego, but if I had to choose, I'd go with versatility of the Hog2.
      Really thinking of utilizing the hog2 to get some "royal blood on steroids" type of sound.... but alas... no moneys....
