Have you used the Warm Audio WA73-EQ Preamp? What are your thoughts on it?
I started out with the Arturia Plug in of the 73's.I loved them so much, that I had to get the Waves WA 73 EQ Hardware version of them. IMO- They add a certain sound quality that the plug ins simply can not do. It's about those Carnhill transformers. Also for Mix Buss, and Mastering- The Tegeler Creme is just AMAZING. It pairs VERY well with the WA 73 EQs. There's NO plug in that is going to do what the Tegeler does.
@@thomasshugar5636 I've heard great things about Tegeler gear. I haven't had a chance to twist any knobs on them tho. I'm in the process of mocking up what other analog gear I might pick up, and I've been eyeballing some of the Tegeler stuff.
I was deciding whether to buy one of these with a 76 style compressor or something like an all in one channel strip like the DBX 676 or an SPL Track One which would cost the same if not less than doing it the other way. Videos like this help me decide whether the capabilities of a unit like this and the sound matches up with what I am going for, and I think by watching this video I re affirmed my desire to get this unit and a 76. Maybe if I need a second channel I will add one of the other units I was looking at. I found a really good deal on another processor I was looking at for the studio as well so I may add that next depending on my needs. For now I think this thing sounds great on the sources you demoed. I don't have personal experience working with this unit as there are no stores that carry it near me. I have used Neve 500 series preamps, and plenty of plugin 73s and I like what that sound does for my recordings.
Dude you are the man , thank you for taking the time to film and edit this video for us , really gives us a good look into the capabilities of the gear
u earned a sub today
keep on making great videos 🔥
Thank you for such kind words! I try to make videos I would find useful! So I'm glad it's helps! Thank you for subbing!
Welp. This is the video that's making me buy one.
Heck yes!!! Glad it was useful! I use mine on pretty much everything I track!
He he me too !! For my snare and kick !!
I can only afford the Arturia 73 plugin.
dude you have the best channel
Thank you for such kind words! I appreciate you watching!
Excellent. Thank you, especially for the kick/snare.
Glad I could help!
Wow does what a Preamp needs to do and sounds beautiful doing so. Thank you fir this video and reassuring my buy !
Absolutely! Thanks for watching!
I just bought a WA-273 EQ preamp. This was a big help, thanks.
wow best video on this thing...
Thank you! Glad you liked it! I just try and make videos I'd want to watch as someone doing research on gear.
Thank you!
No problem! Thank you for watching! 🤘
🤣😂 this saves hours of searching for the right sounds for layering. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Muchas gracias 😊
El mejor video!
thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Nice! Thanks!! What is the bass guitar you are using? It really was outstanding ...
Thank you! It's actually just a Squier 60s vibe bass. It was $300 and blew me away with the quality! I have a video about it on my channel.
@@ZachWirchak Thanks Zach! The WA-73 really does it justice!
@@tjsound1258 I totally agree! Sounds better than it should! Lol
What’s the best settings for rap vocals
Thanks for the video! For this, were you running the mics through the Warm unit, then just into the pres of the focusrite?
Yup! From the Warm Audio to the Focusrite.
@@ZachWirchak Great! Thank you!
Bought 2. Both broke within a year. Sold them and never looked back. Sounds good but if they keep breaking…yeah. I still have their W2A which works flawlessly.
Oh man! Sorry to hear! I've still had really good luck with mine and I use it nearly daily. The W2A has always been a units I've been curious about. I've heard great things.
Im coming from an aux out of my daw into the 273 and then out of the 273 back into a different input channel of my daw.So I guess I’m hearing both sounds.
Oh gotcha! Which DAW are you using? If that is the way you have it setup, you'd want to track/print the output of the unit back into your DAW. But if your DAW allows you to set up external fxs, then that might be the way to go. I have a couple videos on my channel that go over how to set it up.
It would be nice to know the input and output levels of the compressor, and the output of the wa 73 eq.
Good call! I'll need to share those next time.
Do you think the Warm Audio WA73-EQ sounds better than the Universal Audio SOLO/610? Both are on similar price in my country but the WA has EQ. Wich one you will choose?
I think warm audio is a great company, but I sold my wa 1073 eq. I was running my wa47 tube through it, but on my nasally voice, I just wasn't happy enough to keep. The other thing one needs to consider is having some form of hardware comp after it? The wa73eq is hot, and as you experiment, you need a comp before daw. Otherwise, it's difficult to tame, even with the output knob. You could, of course, use a vst inline on your input channel, cpu depending..... So, nice quality, OK sound for my nasally voice. A good singer wouldn't have an issue WITH online comp. Maybe the 1073 just isn't for me?? Great river, avalon?
I only ran directly from the WA73 to my DAW for a short time. I truly can't remember if I had any issues with levels for that time. But I do at all times have the WA76 after the WA73 in the chain and that is FANTASTIC! That combo for the price is outstanding. Anything I throw at it sound great.
Awesome video! How did you route the sounds from your DAW to the preamp? I have the same preamp but only used it for recording in so far. Thanks!
Thank you! I have mine setup to run on the front end when tracking and to be able to use it as a plugin/insert in the DAW.
For front end tracking I run XLR output from the back of it to input 1 on my Focusrite 18i20 3rd Gen.
For running it as an insert with my DAW, I have a 1/4" line coming from my output 3 on my 18i20 > then to the 1/4" input on the WA73 (back of unit) > then out of the WA73 with the 1/4" output (back of unit) > then into input 3 on my 18i20. To switch from running on the front end to an insert, I just press the 'line' button on the front. That changes the signal path front XLR input to the back 1/4" input. It works like a charm! I then just made sure my routing with my Focusrite 18i20 was set and I was off to the races!
Nice! Thanks for the info. I have an Apollo Twin Duo but it seems pretty much the same. I will give it a try!
@@zkmusicx416 excellent! Let me know how it works for you!
Nice I had the symphony Desktop but that $1400 interface only came with 1 set of analog output smh so I’m now running the Apollo X6 Rack so I can run my WA73eq And My ISA ONE as a plug in on the front in👍🏾 any Tips?
How do feel the WA-73 compares sound wise to typical mixing plugins? Give any extra depth or mojo? Any issues with sound degradation? Thinking of pulling the trigger on the WA-73 as a front end but was curious if there were sonic advantages above plugins as an insert as well.
I think it sounds better than any plug-in I've used. The depth that I can get with it is noticeable and it just adds so much more to my mixes. I run almost every track thru it at some point of the process. The EQ is a nice addition too. I'll usually do a little fine tune carving with a plugin during the mix process, but the sound I get going in is usually near perfect. I run mine on the front end, but I also have it setup to be used as a plugin with my DAW. So I'll run virtual instruments thru it as well. I have mine always paired with my WA76 Compressor. The two of them together is fantastic. And then on my mix/master buss during my final mixing session, I'll have everything run thru my pair of WA EQ-P's. And with all of that going on, the depth is very noticeable and I have seemingly zero sound degradation. 👍
@@ZachWirchak Thank you for that! Been pondering for a month to invest in a set up exactly like yours with WA as well as a work flow running VST’s through hardware. So happy I came across your channel! Looking forward to future videos.
@@JeramyRichter Heck yeah! My whole rack has been my favorite investment I've made. I got everything off Reverb.com as b-stock or mint and it saved my over $1,000 on the 4 units.
@@ZachWirchak Right on! Searching Reverb right now. Thanks for the info and all your content!
@@JeramyRichter Absolutely! Let me know if you have any questions! I might have done a video on it already, or it could give me an idea for a new video!
Zack, I have the WA73-EQ. I read the manual and even contacted WA, but go no answer back. is it possible to use the EQ only while not using the preamp on the WA73? ahve you tried this yet,?
I would assume no. But if you disengage the "Tone" button, it does take out a lot of the color the preamp adds. So if it the color you're wanting to avoid, I'm confident you can get it set to where you're really only utilizing the EQ on the unit.
Would you go with the Warm EQ version of the straight up WA73 (or even the WA-412)? Debating if i want to bother with EQ and just spend the money for more pre amps.
If you're looking to get the most bang for buck, the WA412 might be the way to go. I love the WA73 w/ EQ because I'm usually only doing single tracking so I want to flexibility. But with that said, I use the EQ maybe 33-50% of the time.
Nice I had the symphony Desktop but that $1400 interface only came with 1 set of analog output smh so I’m now running the Apollo X6 Rack so I can run my WA73eq And My ISA ONE as a plug in on the front in👍🏾 any Tips?
Sounds like a sweet setup! My only/biggest tip would be to just make sure your levels going into the interface from the WA73 & the ISA are at the proper levels so you're getting the best possible signal recorded into your DAW. But other than that, have fun!
Hello!Great video! When you switch over for insert, how
do you hear only the track coming out of the 273 into the daw input channel?Do you have to record the new input track?
What you're hearing when it's running as an insert, should be the sound from the 1073. Does it not seem to be that way for you?
I now have to figure out a good excuse to tell my wife why I just bought this.
Are you scared to touch the vocals
hahaha, or to show us the output LEDs
What is that means ? Didn't get it
