"You can get a lot out of the Digitakt; especially with other gear, it shines." TRUEE I got one _specifically_ to have a drum machine, but then ended up being great at bossing around my other two synths. I intentionally waited for II to come out so the price would drop on the first one 😅 now after months of enjoyment, I suddenly wondered if I made a decent choice opting for I instead of II. IMO made the right choice. I already have a groovebox 😅😂 A great and informative video, tyvm 👍❤
The only things missing from the Digitakt 2 is stereo sample export and propper chopping/slicing like in the Octotrak... From what Electron is saying, these issues should be remedied soon in updates...
Ive had one a few weeks now. Im really enjoying it. The other day i was writing and varying 8 bar melodies… its the nicest sequencer ive used to do that. Updates will be interesting… id like to be able to modulate a few more things aside filter cutoff with the key follow, but what it doesnt do, i can just sample it in anyhow. what i really like is when i turn it on, it reloads exactly where i was at last time i used it.
I’m happy to hear about your experience with it. I can’t wait to see what elektron has in store for updates for the dt2 and even the original. What feature would you want to see in the next update?
literally the ONLY machine/box/piece of kit that i sold and regretted a week later was the digitakt. i sold the digitakt after i got a octatrack and while the octa does the job what i wanted perfectly, the digi just has a much quicker turn on and go approach and i miss that. im thankful the DT2 came out, ill be getting one very soon. great video too mate
I’m scared of the same situation. I still haven’t sold my DT1 and I kinda of hope it doesn’t sell (I mean the money would be nice). I’m still leaning a lot muscle memory wise and still getting to know the new functions in the menus. I have looked into the octatrack. Might be the next investment.
It's 100% the best all around drum machine/sequencer out there. I've never felt like I'm approaching music at a completely different angle for a very long time, it's an unbelievable piece of equipment that everyone should have in their kit, whether it be the DT1 or 2. I just returned the 1 at my guitar center because they had an open box DT2 that someone bought and returned next day, swapped it out and paid like 100$ for the upgrade. The screen is beautiful, the sound is definitely a little more powerful due to the newer internals, the knobs and pads feel better. but the main thing is that screen and the 16 tracks, along with the keyboard button so i can press it and chop a sample so easily makes me smile haha Never ever ever will i sell my DT2 no matter what happens, little metal box makes me want to actually make music again.
My mean issue is: why not proper SLICING mode? It's ridiculous for that price there should have been proper slicing possibilities ( at least like the octatrack). It's just a piece of programming.
The first one is still a very capable machine and still sought after. I think because it’s labeled as a “drum computer” the specs kind of make more sense if you treat it in that respect. The elbow room grew tight when people tried to expand past the “drum machine” approach and more into a full on groove box. The Digitakt 2 definitely feels more capable of giving a full on stand alone production experience with the added storage and tracks. Might come down to your budget or ultimately what you want out of either. I have my digitakt 1 for sale but I kind of hope it doesn’t sell cause I will miss it.
@@funktuate sounds like i should just get a 2 at some point. I do a lot with the model:cycles and very much enjoy it. Have a syntakt but haven't felt like I've dug deep enough with it. I don't own anything that does full-on heavy duty sampling so this sounds like it. Thanks for the reply!
@@jngl-jim if you already own Syntakt, then I recommend thinking about getting the Digitakt 1 as a second hand unit as there are pretty damn good deals for it on second hand markets. I use ST and DT1 as a combo and that is pretty damn powerful duo, offering 8x digital synthesis, 3+1x analog, 8x samples and 8x midi-out. And the two are 1:1 when it comes to sequencing, which is not the case between DT2 and ST/DT1/DN. This said, the DT2 is better unit in terms of features, there's no way around it, but also about 2-3x the price, if you are okay with getting an used DT1. If money is not an any type of an issue for you: get the DT2.
Ended up getting the Digitakt 2 a few months ago quite soon after release - I’d always wanted the original but never went for it, so saw the upgrade as a good opportunity to jump in. So i cant speak to the experience of using the original, but the really mundane selling points of the DT2 are absolutely the heaviest hitters for me. Using it the way I do now I just couldn’t imagine getting by with 1GB capacity, or mono only, or 8 tracks only, or only one bank of samples per project. I take these all so much for granted and feel a bit spoiled seeing how far it’s come!!
The original is still amazing but like I mentioned it definitely serves its function as a drum machine better than a groove box in comparison with the ability to sequence an extra 8 channels on another drum machine with the midi tracks with the elektron signature sequencer. I think depending on what functions you’re looking to bring to the table, the original still checks a lot of boxes.
OG Digitakt user. I need to upgrade for the 16 midi channels. I got a Roland SC88 module and my Digitakt can only control 8 of its channels. For a full song I’d like the 16 midi tracks for the 32 channels in the SC88.
Ugh. I was successfully holding off on upgrading from my DT1, but your video may have tipped the scales. These new features look great! Thanks for making this.
Have a look at the SP404mk2. It was the perfect compliment to my DT1. Now I've got mono and stereo sampling capabilities, fx, and huge storage capacity with the ability to sample from one machine into the other.
I'm genuinely curious about the 404mk2. How well does it work with 4/4 music - playing loops in time with the DT1? I currently have my Digi as the brains of a live setup, talking to a couple of synths. If it can trigger samples on time and keep them locked to a BPM, and have its step sequencer lock in to the DT1's clock, that would be a no-brainer for me.

I am fond of the yellow lettering of the old one.
Is it nice and almost nostalgic now. Just nice with the new screen as it matches with all the other boxes.

I do agree but with a proper slicing mode, wouldn’t it be more like any other sampler? I think the limitations give it a stronger identity.
Very nice video. Thanks!
My pleasure! Thanks for the comment!
Cool 👍
Thank you!
Is there any reason to still get the first one over the second? Or does II just blow the first out of the water in terms of upgrades?

It will definitely help! Cool to see an example where more midi channels are utilized.
I could use sample some tracks to free up midi channels but I feel that’s too much hassle and doesn’t allow for natural music creation
That Sample.. Cant Wait by Ave Harris?
Just a splice songstarter lol
I’m wondering how you pronounce the word, “digital”.
“Analog”
that's proper pronunciation for the device.
A lot of people use the Swedish pronunciation which has the hard ‘g’ sound.
Those in the know, know 😉
americans pronounce it 'cheeseburger'
