Had this problem. It was a welded closed compressor relay on the control board. Flicking it open temporarily resolved the problem until replaced with a higher rated one.

Can low refridgerant cause constant running issues? My fridge is 18 years old and has this issue, without any of these problems being apparent.

So, my 17 year old GE fridge, model # GTS22IBMBRCC, doesn't seem to shut off and has been running constantly and steadily now, ever since I plugged it back in yesterday (Saturday) evening, I had to install a brand new Evap. fan and so I had it unplugged for a couple hours to do the repair and also clean and disinfect everything (what better time to do it all?).
When I first plugged it back in, everything kicked right on, except for the condenser, so I tapped that a couple times and it did nothing, than I hit the back of the fridge with the side of my hand, not even that hard, and the condenser kicked on instantly and has been running ever since.
The new Evap. fan and the Condenser fans ARE both operating properly, the, Condenser IS running, The coils are as clean as I could get them and air is flowing thru it all nicely.
The fridge temp. is now at +30f, the freezer temp is minus -10f degrees!.
I've read that +32f and +17f are the normal operating temps. for my fridge, so It's obviously getting colder than it should be getting, probably due to constantly running!
Note that I am using two different analog freezer/fridge thermometers and a digital thermometer, so I'm pretty sure the temps. I'm reading are accurate.
I have the fridge and freezer controls both set to 5 (which is the half way up setting and is also the factory default setting).
It has always been set at #5, but has never gotten this cold and seeing how the proper temps have been reached, hours ago, I'm figuring that it should have cycled down and turned off by now.
Could it possibly be a bad sensor or circuit/mother board?
I'm stumped at this point and I just can not afford to call in a repair tech. at this time, but I can't have this thing constantly running, or else I won't be able to afford my electric bill either! lol
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

So that the machine works normally, first turn on the refrigerator when it is empty, so that it cools quickly. Wait a few hours, then put the items you want to put in the refrigerator

    • @h2oquality2010

Yes. My refrigerator was badly iced up in freezer and even behind panel in refrigerator. I left my refrigerator off for 3 days. By end of second day, I heard a massive flush of water going through drainage pipes to back of fridge. I allowed an extra day to allow moisture to dry. This works best in summer during hot months. Then I set my freezer at 8 degrees and refrigerator at 38 degrees and it hasn't had a problem since. No ice build up, no constant running.

Our freezer door got left open over night and the compartment frosted up. We closed it this morning when we notched it but now it has been ruining all day. Tonight we turned off the breaker to the fridge and left the freezer door open(we moved the food to the chest freezer downstairs). It is thawing now. Hoping it works right after the ice is gone and we start it up again. Fingers crossed!!!!

What causes the compressor to stay on? My compressor stays on even when the blower fan stopped. And it keeps on running and it starts to get hot what can it be?

I have the same problem with a LG Refrigerator GM63GSM model, that run the compressor with the condenser fan off sometimes. Even LG has no explanation of this, the solution from my part was to install a separate Fan connected to 120 Vac to allow the condenser to extract heat, because the original Fan with 4 wires remains off.. The PCB was changed by LG and the problems continues, I think this kind of Refrigerator has a design problem with the logic in PCB. With this external Fan the REFRIG run and mantain cool the goods inside and freezer also.

    None of the above.
How abouta bad temperature control panel where you adjust your temperature for the freezer and the fridge?
How about a bad control board?
How about a bad defrost temperature thermistor or freezer fort that matter? What about low freon?
    You described the obvious ones.

    • @user-nl9ne5gk6k
      @user-nl9ne5gk6k 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

"Filthed"? Really dude? WTF? That's not even a legit word! lol
Condenser coils can and do get clogged up with dust/hair/crumbs/etc. and so they do need to be cleaned out.
You can have that done professionally, but it's really not all that hard for a "Do it your-self-er" with two good arms and hands to do.
I've moved, repaired, cleaned and discarded many refrigerators over the years and have even seen mice, alive and dead in and on condenser coils many times, never at my own home though, I guess the lil' bastidz don't like coming in my house? (they must sense and fear the dog and/or cat!?)
Rule of thumb is to clean out the coils at least twice per year using a "foxtail" brush and a vacuum to keep it running properly, which prevents overrunning and overheating, which leads to parts failures.
Love how they DON'T tell you that and how they don't actually show you how to properly clean a coil with a brush, they're just arbitrarily swiping under the front of a fridge nowhere near the coil, nor do they mention that the issue could be a bad thermostat or sensor or circuit board or mother board (model depending).
