Shards of Alara was released in 2008, which was, wait, 15 years ago? The time gap between Alpha and Alara is like a week longer than the time gap between Alara and now. Wowzers.
Invasion Odyssey Onslaught was a golden era. So was Zendikar Scars Innistrad. War of the Spark Throne of Eldraine Theros Beyond was good but brief. Killed by Covid and other things. Lord of the Rings Doctor Who is good too.
I wish block was a thing. Would love to play the era of MTG that I grew up with. From the OG urza block all the way to champions of kamigawa. Back when cards were simple, straightforward, balanced and fun to play.
@PokeBattlerJaze historic, explorer, brawl, historic brawl, and especially standard. Og eldraine was a set full of a lot of mistakes, and korvold was certainly one of them.
The amount of value that card draw ability generates when you build around it is insane. It ends up being "draw cards and get bigger for doing what your deck wants to do." I've gotten turns where I've drawn a full hand before while using a Mayhem Devil and sac outlet to ping down important creatures and planeswalkers.
@@littlemrdoom5997it wasn't even the most mistake filled set of it's time either, that'd be War of the Spark, but Wizards absolutely refused to doing anything about Tef3, and the formate devolved to "Who curved best?"
The only thing I ever care to remember about Jund is a funny post someone made about the concept of "Magic as Garfield intended." I can't remember how it exactly went, but it basically was; "People always talk about 'Magic as Richard Garfield intended' when talking about Jund when in reality it means shit like Four Horsemen." It may also have been referring to "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)", but IDK.
Since we're talking about favorite Shards I gotta rep my fav Grixis. It combines all my favorite playstyles of spellslinger, Aristocrats, sacrifice, and generally being annoying 😅
My favorite three-color combo is Mardu (shoutout to Alesha, Who Smiles at Death) but Jund midrange will always be one of my favorite decks. So much bonkers value.
(2:29) I happen to have a Bartel Runeaxe, but he's in a beat-up condition. I have no idea when or where I acquired him. It would be nice if I had one in better condition, but I don't want to spend 25 bucks on that. Darn it, Reserved List...
The best 3 color combination can't have glaring weaknesses. Grixis notoriously has problems with enchantments. Jund has precious little stack interaction. I would prefer one of the blue-white core shards like Esper or Bant over Jund for all around versatility.
Esper is the best because it can remove almost everything from the board and from the stack. Its only limitations are lands but there are other ways to deal with those permanents.
Personally I'd say Temur is best, as it isnt just versatile, but can still pack a punch with the best colors for creatures and/or big mana (GR), which compliment blue interaction well.
How long do you think it will take for us to get a Hierarch for each of the 3 colors? It was like, 10 or 12 years between Exhalted and Ignoble, so another 100-120 years for the other 8?😅
I actually think it'd make more sense as a cycle of three, not five; since only three of the shards have green in their color identity, in which case we're just missing Naya
@@Reluxthelegend These are the shard ones; the other set is called the wedges, which is a much worse name than shards. I kinda wish we had gone with "clans" since they come from the Tarkir clan names, but the community seems to have gone with wedges pretty universally lol.
I like Mardu the most, but they are consistently one of the lowest power trios. I'm also curious how Scam has affected your lists. I've been hearing so much on how bad it is for the game, but most I hear from play modern, the biggest affected. But you are about limited and solely imperical data. Has it altered your lists in ways you were surprised about?
@@rickymoen9482 Using evoke and a card that returns a creature who does this turn. Since you can evoke certain things for basically free, you can do this turn 1 and double the evoke effect, namely of Fury and Grief. This sets you far ahead, all because you scammed the card effect and kept the monster. This works with any evoke card, and combining with Orcish Bowmasters and One Ring, most decks can't compete with sideboard, leaving you one up. This also makes any x/1 useless (except Ragavan, as he bounces back to hand), crippling creature decks and restricting the metagame. This can skew cards, like ignoble hierarch, which would otherwise be played.
Ive been a fan of your channel for so long but it frustrates me seeing the same comments made on your video, every time, by the same person, like a bad joke that someone keeps telling. Sounds like it's not the colors that are oppressive, but you. You can play espers and not play stax, controlling, not allowed back at our table magic. You are aware of this right?

Jeskai and Sultai are what i usually gravitate to. I don't think I've ever played a jund deck in any format.
It'll feel so dirty but so good
Ignoble Hierarch?
Edit:
Huh, would have never thought Korvold did THAT well for itself.
Every time I've played against korvold has been downright miserable

I like Jeskai myself. There is a LOT of creative potential with that faction.
Agreed, love jeski.
I'm totally adding Hit/Run to my go-wide commander decks (which allow it) as an alternative finisher alongside Craterhoof
Ew, boring
Soul of Windgrace can put a land from ANY graveyard into play, not only your own.
Curious to see an esper list. Raffine probably dominates due to recent results?
Modern Scam, aka the deck that destroyed Modern.
Or rather, Wizards unwillingness to ban any cards in Modern is ruining Modern.

There is no 3 color without weaknesses. That's why wotc follows the color pie when designing cards.

It only makes sense to have 4 hierarchs, one for each shard with green.

My guy Iggie Smalls doing work on this list! I play him in my Gruul aggro deck that I call Julia Gruulia
Not sure if you mentioned this or not. But do you count the trilands savagelands and savai triome as jund?
Mardu is my favorite, if just for the flavor
Sultai gang rise up
Not to sound stupid but would the proving Grounds triome not make it here for some reason?

Sek'Kuar, Deathkeeper will always be the best Jund commander.
HOW IS MAMA ZIATORA NOT ON THIS LIST!?🐉🍺⚙️🛠
She has 4 points.
for me it will always be Darigaaz
When’s the next episode of the timeline of the Banned and Restricted list?
Perhaps when a few more years pass and it can become more of a retrospective opposed to an update video.
