    Nice to hear that you set an example. It's the most effective method of achieving progress. A bit of social pressure after that and people eventually take these things seriously. I'm from countryside where people didn't understand that was an issue. I was that one weirdo in my class that was serious about littering. Later I moved to Cracow and found more poeple like me. The hardest part is to get your message across to at least one person. When eventually there are more people like you, you can start shaming. It's easy from there.
    But in the beginning it's an uphill battle. More so if you're a westerner and people don't trust you. Understandable, because they are often patronising. Especially some Germans, ugh!

    That was highly enjoyable to watch and listen to. As an Australian my only real knowledge of Poland and Polish people has been those that I have encountered along the way and from watching how the EU tries to get Poland to tow the EU line.
    The vast majority of Poles that I have met have been really good people, and frankly you could not wish for better friends.
    My image of Poland, and why I would like to visit and holiday there, is that Poland is a comparatively safe country with plenty to see and do. I also like the fact that Poland is predominately Polish in nature, culture, language and way of thinking.
    I am interested in other cultures, food, nature, etc, and was disappointed to hear that perhaps Poland is becoming like so many other countries. I am a fan of each country having its own language, culture and way of expressing itself. Hopefully Poland will succeed in repelling the EU push to change it from the way it is now.

      I met girl from Belgium on my holiday. She said exactly the same thing about safety in Poland. She felt in love with it. The whole idea of EU is to remove national identity of all of the countries and create something like socialistic united states of Europe. Thats why I dont like EU.

As much as I dislike the cliché that *"Everything happens for a reason,"* I think that it applies to your situation, as I think that both you and Poland have benefitted from you moving there. Lastly, *"There but for the grace of God go I"* is something that I grew up with as wellc(per my Polish MOM and grandma), and I think it made me a better person!!

    It is true about the rubbish I don’t understand where the habit comes from we have a clean up Australia Day if they had one in Poland 🇵🇱 it would be great 👍 about the doors I did notice the gentlemen would hold open doors for the Ladies years ago 😊 does this still not happen in Poland 🇵🇱

      You did notice some of the rubbish in Poland? I was criticised for mentioning this on the video....Regarding door opening ,I find that men are polite and hold the door open for women but if you follow behind somebody going into a shop then there is no tradition of looking behind..

    What baffles me most about England is that men upon visiting public toilet are not very keen on washing their hands, most of them especially in clubs will use toilets and walk out witout washing hands.
    Another thing that stands out is immediately is the state of people's feet, some people must believe that feet are meant for killing prey and do not clip their toe nails,I mean men mostly, women on other hand have cracked heels, you don't see that in Poland or America.

    • @PeterDowell
      @PeterDowell  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I cannot comment on the UK but as an observer of people in public toilets in Poland we have exactly the same over here which might account for the fact that generally Poles seem to be ill quite often....Not washing hands and then shaking hands....But I am sure that if we were to do a survey of mens' hygiene habits throughout Europe we might find that men are the same in most countries....Pretty dirty buggers when it comes to hand washing...as for toe nail clipping I have no observations here to I cannot comment but the male grooming industry is a massive business in the UK.The range of products available to men for grooming in for example Boots or Tesco is certainly many time larger than here...So a lot of men must be spending a lot of money on making themselves look good.....Maybe the people you observe are not so interested in personal appearance...For sure I do not intend to ask the local men of Ostroda to remove their socks to prove or disprove a point......But if you want to choose a hundred Brits of different incomes ,education and backgrounds to remove their socks and research toenail cutting ,I am sure many companies would pay you for your findings.

    About cars. Its a national spirit, just like an army from Middle Age on the horses. Poles thinking in car this way: "I see some car? O yeah i must be a first. I dont let them some kind of win, be better than me. I will show U." I see many times than old small cars try it with new cars... Its funy and sad in the same time.

    Very interesting interview. Yes there is some problem of trash along some intercity roads. But it sometimes is issue of the fact Poland has millions of immigrants (for job) from eastern countries (Ukraine, Belarus, Russia etc.) where there is such habit (to throw away trash out of car) quite popular. Let me give you some examples of some reaction of Polish drivers (the first link concerns several ppl (in not Polish car) throwing trash through the window): th-cam.com/video/PVQo3LZfhjA/w-d-xo.html or th-cam.com/video/Tw5jOwY6sS8/w-d-xo.html ofc I don't want to say that Polish drivers without guilt ! :) But mostly, Poles take care about the trash on roads. Best regards :)
    PS: Many eastern countries immigrant cars are already on Polish license plates

  • @Greg74948
    @Greg74948 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    After 25 years of living in Poland you have absolutely no excuse for not being able to speak Polish. Sorry man, but I consider this as ignorance and disrespect for the country you live in, for the culture and for the people living all around you. Everyone can learn any language to become communicative and comprehensible. You don't need any genes or special abilities to learn foreign language, it's just the matter of motivation and the will to learn that language. You certainly lack of those.

    • @PeterDowell
      @PeterDowell  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well as an English language teacher I have certainly met my fair share of trying very hard students who were never able to learn English ,so I beg to differ that anybody can learn a language.Britain is hardly a second language country.Look at the USA.Poles for sure have something in their blood for learning languages.I have survival Polish and still trying to learn but their are other Brits in Poland who also struggle...
