The story of Russians sending Ukrainian children to military camps has personal significance to me. My great-great-grandfather was kidnapped from his home at age 12 and and taken to military school (Кантонистские школы) and forced to serve in the Russian army. Some things in Russia never change.

Apparently the children are more valuable being given a lethal weapon than knowledge and physical health.
I'm sorry there are/were so many families ruined. Claims of being religious, following any decent human behaviour are as corrupted as much of the rest. 😥

Very true, on the Transparency International corruption index , Ukraine was 117th and Russia 127th out of 180 countries in 2020.
In 2024 Ukraine had moved up 13 places to 104th , still not not good, but an improvement of 13 places, no mean feat, especially in times of war, when corruption tends to flourish. Russia dropped to 141st in 2024, a drop of 14 places.
The 10 place difference was transformed onto a 37 place difference.
It is obvious Ukraine is serious about combating corruption.

It was mainly a recruiting club for kids interested in a military career. Very little in the way of indoctrination. Back then, it wasn’t needed. russian nuclear arsenal is almost certainly poorly maintained and it'd be a safe bet that the number of warheads and delivery systems that actually work is a lot lower than what they claim. Some people go so far as to say that none of russia's nukes work, and I do think that's wishful thinking on their part, but I'd also say that it doesn't matter - russia's nukes have only one purpose, and that is to spread fear in the west. They're not going to nuke their own kids going to western schools, their own villas, yachts, family members. They also know that the western arsenal is actually in good shape and if they did anything, it'd be the end of for them. Like any bully, they like to threaten and pick on anyone they perceive as weaker, but deep down they're cowards.

Just like the groups of people that now are taking over the leadership of Syria after Assad, most likely will insist that every deal signed by Assad will applie to them too.
And i fully agree with you. Every deal signed by USSR should had been considered, handled and treated as if being null and void after it's collapse. And russia should had been mandated to applie for a new membership as they are for all intents and purposes a new country, and thusly have to re-sign all of the agreements the USSR had. Instead of doing what the rest of the world did. It gave russia way too much credibility and misplaced trust that was not earned.
But then fully knowing how sour the relationship of USSR was to the west, The west probably hoped it could be a new page in the history books and that the relationship could be improved. Wich it did for a hand full of years, before Vladolf Puttler (Or due to is raging love for men Put'It'In) the supreme terrorist nazi dictator of nazi ruzzia came in to power, and completely made a 180 and made the relations even worser than before.
ruzzia should be kicked out of the UN, one because of their actions and general hostility towards every one in the UN. and two because they never was a member to begin with. They were just given the keys to the fort after USSR. Any old nation that got eaten up by ruzzia in the past, and was Whitin their borders could had stod up and said WE are the defector successor state, buuuuut it ended up being ruzzia. Probably due to the KGB having a moon sized finger in the pie.
