This was the first pistol I ever purchased. I purchased it about 7 years ago and had to sell it in hard times about 5 years ago. I went to Academy to look at pistols and when I looked at the SP2022 I was like WOW a Sig for $399. on sale. I knew that Sig made quality firearms and I liked the look and the double to single action with decocker. So I bought it. I loved that gun. I put about 3500 to 4000 rounds through it and it still fired like new. Now that money isn't tight, I went and bought one this past weekend at Academy. I was expecting the gun in a card board box with only one mag like Academy was selling for the longest time. But it came in a nice plastic case with two mags, small and medium grip and a holster for $429. Went and shot it the same day, and it was exactly how I remember the first one shooting. Dead on, and reliable. I put 400 rounds through it that day and plan on shooting again this weekend. You can't go wrong with this gun.

SP2022 was my first handgun. Traded up to a P226 months after, but the 2022 is no chump. I had zero problems with it and it was a comfortable gun to shoot and carry. I paid $400 for it brand new, and sold it for that same price about 8 months later. Far as I'm concerned, its a great gun to start with, and gets you accustomed to DA/SA and polymer at the same time. Now I carry a polymer striker-fired Walther PPS, but love the P226 for everything but carrying. I owe my educated opinion of what to use - and when - to the SP2022 - which really combined both worlds beautifully.

My first gun was an LE trade in SP2022 chambered in .40. I carried it concealed IWB. It was an excellent first piece, shot anything, never failed. I shot about 1000 the first couple of months without issue.
I posted a video comparing it to a few other Sigs (p224, p229, p226). On the forums, some people say don't bother because you'll eventually trade it for a p229 and eventually trade that for a p226.
I jumped the "gun" and bought a p226. The SP 2022 just fit better in my hand, making it more enjoyable to shoot. I gifted it to my cousin as his first gun as he's entering the US Army. My EDC now is the p229/p224.
You're going to have people trash talk guns without even owning or firing one. This piece as Colin eluded, makes you appreciate the DA/SA hammer configuration.
I'm not a striker fired fan - nothing against them - however, I owe it to this piece when starting out for the love of Sig and DA/SA firearms.

I love my 2022. It has been ultra reliable, has wonderful features and is as accurate as any sig I have shot. I am a large framed person and am easily able to carry it daily in an Alien Gear IWB holster with no comfort or printing issues. It is nice to see it reviewed like this as it is often ignored by the mainstream firearms media.

@@kiprattxxx Yeah and the sig trig is also a normal smooth & curved nitride stainless steel deal as opposed to pretty much everyone else who is mass producing combat accurate pistols these days with a polymer fandangle, plus the sig pro's usually retail anywhere from $20 up to $150 less than a brand new Beretta M92FS or Glock 19 for example. I have a standard nitron black SP2022 with contrast sights that's made in Newington, NH. I would love to have another to compliment it in flat dark earth with SiGLiT3 tritium night sights that's made in Exeter, NH (if I could afford it) & a Double-Holstered Mitch Rosen Cuben Brown Leather Stylemaster Express Shoulder Rig to match (also made in NH btw) & then for the traditional price of one hammer-fired SiGARM I'd have two that can then be dual-wielded & can be slide/frame switched anytime to make 2 unique two-tone modern, sleek & very, very professional sig pro's.

Just bought one today! I just turned 21, and I've had several Airsoft versions of this gun in my adolescence that were just amazing.. They fit my hand like a glove, and aiming was practically telepathic. It's the same with the real steel. After all of the paperwork was done, I put a box of the generic ball point ammo the range was selling through it, and I cut a 4x1 inch diagonal swathe through the target at about 15 feet. I definitely need some practice, but I'm damn proud to call this weapon my first handgun.

It’s size & my short stature precludes EDC; however, it’s NEVER failed to send a round downrange when I squeezed the trigger & it’s my home defense pistol of choice to this day. After carrying (including concealed) a duty-size Sig P226 purchased in 1987 and made in West Germany, I decided a few years ago that at my advancing age a DA/SA provided an extra layer of complexity for run-and-gun drills (like jumping out of a truck, heading for cover, and then wondering if I'd dropped the hammer). Sig was just beginning to advertise its P250 and I fell in love with the concept. I bought a compact in 9mm and fell in love with the gun and its potential as a "system". I now have two fire control modules (the actual serialized gun) with grip modules for compact and subcompact for each and chambered for 9mm and .40, with plenty of mags. Living in the northeast, I have flexibility for CCW in both calibers depending on season, and in a SHTF or ammo scarcity situation, I can fire the most widely available rounds. I've thought about adding a barrel for .357 Sig, but have decided against it. Although I bought my first Sig in Florida, I now live within an easy drive of Sig's manufacturing facility and its outstanding training academy.

I just bought a Sig 2022 and I really feel like I made a good choice. A lot of the criticism seems more like personal preference than anything. I think a lot of people in the gun world like to compare to the higher end or Glocks in general. I understand that the reviews are coming from experienced gun owners and its appreciated but I bought one cause I am still a novice and it hits all the bells for me. Sure the trigger has a little slack in it but I am not looking for the perfect or greatest gun on the planet for the money I was spending but for the money, and for someone still learning guns and new to it all, its fantastic. My shooting experience is mainly home defense and recreational and im not looking to be the greatest shooter ever but I wanna be decent and pretty good at least. Gotta love a SIG! Any SIG! I've got seven of them, and love every one! Don't have a SP2022 but I do have a P228 and P239 in 9mm. I've fired the 2022 and found it to be a great pistol, but there was no advantage over my P228. Don't and won't own a Glock BTW. Just don't care for them. Good guns but just not my cup of tea. All my striker guns are Rugers.

You are CRAZYYYY! The SP2022 makes a Glock feel like a cheap toy! This is coming from a Glock fan. I have 5 different models. Me and my buddy were shooting at the range just the other day, the Sig SP2022 40 cal and my Glock 22. (Both guns stock besides a laser in the Glock) The Sig felt like it was a Cadillac compared to a lowered hoopty! The Glock felt like a cheap, uncomfortable, toy in your hand. We were both blown away at how much better the sig felt and shot! The only way the Glock 22 shined was because of the guide rod laser making you deadly accurate. No one in their right mind would shoot these two guns back to back and choose the Glock! That's laughable and just being a fan boy! Not even comparable!

Anthony Marbury I don't think Colion would do a comparison review of the same two guns just in different calibers. They're going to feel the same, just have different recoil and capacity. It would just be another caliber debate video, which Colion has already stated his current preference of 9mm.

First gun, yes... Gun for "everything", no... It's heavy, bulky, cheap trigger system feel.
Do you like the idea of a decocker/hammer fire system? Do you want to carry the firearm alot? The finish wears fast (black color) and will look bad if you shoot and carry alot. For close to what you are going to pay for this gun, there are ALOT of options. Try out as many different styles and sizes to find your preference. It's all about what you expect and find comfortable

I recently bought one in 9mm. I cut just under two coils off the hammer spring. It now matches the pull of my stock 229, in single action mode. I guess sig went with a heavier stock pull, due to this being a military contract pistol. My previously excellent groups tightened even more, after this change. I also added a black steel guide rod. Thats it. It absolutely rocks. I have over 500 rnds through mine with no malfunctions. I am going to purchase a second in the FDE version soon. Cheers.
