- so it's time for a teast test between two different kind of all day breakfast meals.
wayfayrer all day breakfast or tinned all day breakfast??
Boil in the bag pouched meals are great for hiking and camping trips .
I can and will only give my honest feedback about both meaks.

Having eaten Army rations for 10 years it’s all about filling me up then taste…
Always carried sachets of sauce , Tabasco, chilli flakes etc.
I'm with you on that one
Tinned with a sachet of Brown Sauce mixed in.
My thoughts also.
Very true!
A range of sachets is always handy to pack. Keeps the weight down.
Agreed
If you wanted to save money buying the tinned version, just take a very small tub with a knob of butter and the same amount of ketchup. Once the meal is hot, mix the butter in and the ketchup and it gives the taste of the bean juice a creamy and rich flavour for no extra price.
Knob of butter squeeze of ketchup some pepper game changer for cheap beans 👌👌
😂
Agreed.works a treat every time, even for my jaded palate Works well even without the butter.and the pepper. Long ago realised that the premium brands, especially Heinz are an outrageous rip-off. Branston taste good but although cheaper than Heinz, still over-priced for my budget. I realise that baked beans are only one item on the shopping list, but applying this philosophy to all my menu options offsets a small part of the high cost of travel in these economically sketchy times. Happy trekking everyone, sray safe, and recognise when it's time to bail or take the less difficult option 'coz the trail will still be there for another go when your skill, gear levels, and weather match anything the trail demands.
The tinned one is meant to be heated in a saucepan. That would boil off some of the juice and concentrate the flavour.
I agree., a good boil/fry concentrates the flavour and improves the texture.
I will always fry my beans where I can.
As said by at least one other comment, tin with brown sause added helps alot. Ive also got a tin of heniz beans. Added that to the bag and the extra bits from the ADB tin.
I also do the curry in a tin with some microwave rice mixed in. Works perfectly.
I also preslice bacon grill in my bags.
Hello Dan I’m glad you’re feeling better 🙏 looking forward to Another Hotel Hunter soon 🤞
Amazing, a man’s ingenuity on record. Finding an excuse to eat two breakfasts for our benefit.
I prefer the tinned all day or the full monty breakfast. I found the wayfarer was stodgy and bland, but everyone has a different palette of taste.
I'm in receipt of a low income and do a lot of batch cooking working out roughly £1 or £1.50 a meal, so I'll look into buying some of those bags for when I go Stealth/tarp/wildcamping.
I was thinking of purchasing a dehydration kit but they take a long time to dehydrate wet meals.
Me too!!!
Tinned is PROPER TASTY!
👍
PLUS I like the bigger sausages.
👍
Mate… this guy has been trying to get a Wayfayer sponsorship for years.
He literally says they’re 50/50 and the wayfayer ones egg is flavourless.
Then a few seconds later says it’s better by far
I bet you do 😂
@@thomasmacias5032 lol!!!
😆😂🤣👍
A man i know lives in the back of his van , hes saved literally over £100 grand cash by not paying rent over the last 12 years , its a hard life though as he has to use the gym if he needs a shower and at night has to park in woodland areas to avoid stupid gangs that roam our country as he used to camp up in Wimbledon due to work commitments but there he kept getting grief , anyway he regularly just cooks using a small camping stove with those throw away gas bottles , I think he's done well as i could not last a week living in my vehicle it would be way too cold , he has no diesel heater just uses lots of sleeping bags and a bottle of whiskey a night to keep him warm LOL
AHHH we're talking food!!! PERFECT im going hammocking tomorrow for 2 nights and need to find meal ideas so ive came at a good time!
I totally understand the balance between calorific value vs taste vs cost, but all in all, I much prefer the tinned ADB every time. Strangely I keep mine in the tin and just dip the opened tin into boiling water, stir occasionally and it works a treat, crush down the empty tin and take it back home for disposal. Nearly two tins for the price of one wayfayrer, does the job for me.
Never tried all day breakfast in the tin. I am going to try it now. Thank you, Mr. Woodman.
Good to see the taste tests back.
Great video. Very informative, thanks.
We have used the full monty all day breakfast, quick and easy, filling and warms you up when out in the English weather!!! after setting up camp!!
Hey Daniel. . . Hope you're well!
🤗👍
I honestly love these kind of videos 👍
When i have just woke up in the wood/hills, or its the end of the day and i'm cold and hungry, flovour tends to go out the window for me, so long as it warm/hot and calories is all that matter.
We are loving your tried and testing food stuff mate me and the Mrs are definitely foodies love your steak cooking especially
Hi Dan another great video even though you're ill. I hope get better soon 🙏.
The game changer is the bags you can buy. With the money you save on the tin variety.
I'm 5mins into the video, I reckon tinned is gonna be much better 💯%
P.s, still on the hunt for a #unicorn pillow... Lol!!!
❤
Did same test at home when you you showed us those bags , worth trying other tinned meals and transfering into bags , been experimenting with different spices as well 👍
Tin will be best IMO
The tinned ones deffo used to have little egg bits in them as well. Used to buy a few before a beer session back in the day, nice hangover scoff. 👍
I'm one of those who said that tinned stuff is cheaper but I was talking about Asda basics bangers & beans at 58p for 405g 😂😅
Based on you saying that the omlette & tiny sausages were tasteless and if I using a reseal bag I would go for the better quality meat in the all day breakfast in the tin and splash a bit of brown sauce in with it when bagging it up.
For me, the meat is far more important than the beans and it looks like you get far more meat in the tin than the pouch and the whole meal is also 33% bigger.
I think make your own.. .. a tin of hot dogs and cut them up to your own size. Divvy up a tin of beans between how many portion bags you want. ..cook some bacon ( cool then slice up into small pieces.)..you can add a few potatoes cut into small servings from a tin ( which as a breakfast can replace sortee potatoes… it needs putting into bags that can freeze though if making a larger amount and save for another day..unless using the same day…(defrost before re-heating..)
Hey Dan love adventures mate watching from Cornwall
All day long Dan, it's so easy to make your own, and it'll taste so much better.
Hi Dan , Back in the Man Cave I see , I reckon the Tinned food will taste the best ! 🙂
What gives you the most energy etc that's something you should compare too. 👍
Love it👍
I was wrong the tin is Hunger Beaks which is Cross and Blackwell. Both taste good though when your hungry.
Good informative video Dan keep up the good work 👏 🙌 👍 👌
Mylar bags are great,Dan.
You can have a larger choice of varieties of food, either cook it yourself first, or like you, from a can.
So much money to be saved. Also, if you make a load up in one go, you can freeze a load, and have them instantly, for an ‘emergency camp out’.
( Try and squeeze all the air out, before you seal them up😉).
All the best.👍🏾🇬🇧⛺️
Advantage of the tinned one is that you can add stuff to it when you put it in the bag, sauce, curry extra egg. Disadvantage is it won't keep too long once out of tin, wouldn't risk more than a day myself.
If I pre make some I freeze them
I use bags like that, make my own stews, chilli’s and curry’s and freeze them.. when I want one I just take out of freezer and they have defrosted by the time I am ready to eat. So much cheaper than the Wayfarer style meals and so much tastier.
Where do you get your bags from please Russel 👍👍
As for "calories per tin / packet" the tinned version wins hands down (442kcal vs 381kcal). So "price wise" you get 442kcal for £2.30 or 381kcal for £4.50. This equals 192kcal per £1.00 spent (tinned) or 84kcal per £1.00 spent (packet). Personally I love the "Hunger Breaks" brand and like you Dan, I remember when they were much cheaper. You can keep tinned foods for ages and putting them in a 50p bag saves just a little weight, but not a lot. When you are only doing an over-nighter or a 2-3 day trip the extra cost of the bag seems inapproriate to the extra weight, plus you may be adding an extra issue for waste management.
My personal preference for a 2-3 day trip is just four basic types of things. 2 tins of meat (spam / corned beef and/or chicken), 3 tins of veg (carrots / peas etc) - drained into sealed containers, some dried pasta and/or potato powder (smash-type) and some cheese (grated or block -depending on the lenght of the trip). Add all the usual dried items such as coffee/ sugar/ milk powder/ gravy granules/ salt/ pepper/ some herbs and spices/ oxo cubes (less than 300 grams) and I am good for that short trip. Plus I allow for breakfast / supper items such as a bag of porridge or breakfast bars and hot-chocolate drinks. The added bonus is that nothing has to be "cooked" (The dried pasta has to be boiled but I re-use the water), as it is all ready to be eaten when re-heated or boiled.
For longer trips I just try to arrange to get to a supermarket / shop to resupply the basics (tinned meat/veg, pasta/smash and cheese), before I run out. Then I am good for another few days. The good thing about this system is that you can easily find shops along the way to sell you the basics that you need and if you get a bonus like the "Hunger Breaks" breakfast it will not be out of place with your regular food items / weight (in your bag).
I have never been a big advocate for packet-hiker meals. They are expensive and lead to a dependence on so-called quick meals when it is just as easy to produce your own for a 1/3 of the cost but with just a little extra weight. They can save weight if you are travelling in an area which has a plentyfull water source, but can be more troublesome when you don't have that access to water. Plus they are often less calorific compared to other options. Having a bag of peanuts / raisins / dried banana slices will give you a better long term energy kick than many other items.
I know I have talked about "longer" hiking trips than you normally do Dan and although I really love the short trek videos you produce (seriously I do enjoy them all - honestly) I would love to see how you would prepare for a longer journey of maybe 3 - 5 days. So here is my challenge to you: Show us you preparation for a 3-4 day hike with no shop-stops. Make it a round-trip from your house if you like, but stay out for 3-4 days with what you have in your bag (Yes you can collect water from taps / houses and streams) you can forage for food (no dumpster-diving behind McDonalds or ALDI --- LOL) and you have to carry everything you need for those 3-4 days (except water). Can you do it? I think you will easily do it and the video/videos will be brilliant.
Good luck.
Thanks for these kinds of videos Dan, it’s interesting to see the difference in flavours. With regards to the bags, do you use the bigger ones off Amazon, as it says they are £24 for £50 not £4.49 ? I have had the summit pasta bolognese and thought it tasted nothing like bolognese ! 🤦🏼♂️ My Personal favourite is the chicken fried rice 😊
For cheaper meal you could buy smart price sausage and beans in a tin.
I always use wayfarer and the coconut chicken curry one is very amazing and great taste 😋 and i use a mess tin and boil the water to cook my food packet inn and then make a brew with the water so it is 2 in one cooking and very amazing video well done and keep up the great work and get well soon
Tinned would be my guess. Interesting video Dan regards Tony
I like to add some cheddar cheese and oregano to that all day breakfast tin, always comes out well. The beans aren't the best but can't beat the price and the more meat
Swiss here. Never heard of that dish before! Will try to get ahold of one when I in the UK next.
Tried finding it locally... no can do, Amazon UK want ≈ 50£ to ship 6 cans ... too risky 😅
Wow that's expensive.
The tin for me, half the price and more filling. i add some pepper and HP sauce to mine when I put it in the bag, it's an absolute winner 👌
Hi Dan I think after your taste test the wayfarer is better as for the extra cost flavour is more important to me in my opinion.
Look forward to your next test.
Cheers Graham
Like these videos Dan
With these Mylar type bags, they're great for a proper stealth camp coupled with Flamesless Ration Heaters, FRH, no smoke, no flames, no smell. You do need to wait around 12-15minutes though, but great for when setting up camp. The tinned brekky would be my choice, but the wayfayers are a designed meal, calorific count, nutrition values etc. I've even done my own full brekky, with an egg in Mylars. Great bit of kit, especially if you have special dietary requirements.
FRH’s give off hydrogen as a byproduct which is flammable. The US are designing a new air activated one which will replace them :)
I been watching from Arizona USA. Flagstaff actually. Dan your hella funny bro.
Making up your own pouches with good beans and sausages you like would still be cheaper. I put home made curry and rice in the pouches and vac seal them - great for the one night wild camps.
Would go for neither of them , go to a good butcher’s and get some proper bacan and sausage and black pudding and decent eggs while there as well , and don’t forget the mushrooms, have tried a fair few of them package meals and nothing compares to the real deal, unless hiking for days on end just bring some proper food for the night 👍not having a go at you personally 🙏🏻, love your channel 🫡
The tin but I personally would make my own from scratch if I’m making my own bag to take with me then I could add some black pudding. Nice video m8
I will only make 3 days worth, and as a personal rule I don't put any seafood in them. Unless you have a way of keeping them chilled.
I tend to make a few breakfasts, and a couple of pasta dishes. However you can't beat cooking a good steak on a open fire.
Hope this helps.
Good luck with your adventure, and keep safe.
I would say the tinned one will taste best…..I’ll find out soon 😉
You’ve made me hungry now!
I would pre-cook my own ready for heating at the campsite
the tins aint bad just to have in the cupboard as a quick meal
Come to Scotland Danny. Butchers Beef Sausage, Bacon Lardons, H Beanz in my Mylar bags. Sometimes scrambled egg in another. I know you like yer grub pal.
I've had wayfarer all day breakfast cost £ 4.50 they taste, all day breakfast in a tin is cheap but I prefer wayfarer more taste, thanks Dan for a great video
Wayfarer is way overpriced, just like Mountain House and the other "hiking" meals !
"pork and egg nuggets" sound like a scotch egg to me 😅
Jealous of your camp store room, get well soon mate👍
Let’s just put it out there you can just bout make 2 tins for the price of 1 wayfarer simple really. All the very best Dan 👍🏻🏴👍🏻🏴👍🏻🏴
Tin!! Add sachet of sauce of choice salt/pepper.. 2 days for price of 1
I'd go for the tins Dan. Cheaper, meatier and can always improve the flavour just by adding a little curry powder or chilli powder so still cheaper.
Personal choice. Bought a load of various Wayfarer meals a couple of years ago. Never again !
I would go for the tins in the foil bags because you can add stuff to it to make a meal you like but you can't with the sealed bag meals.Campbells have some chunky soups that are pretty good.
Gotta say Dan ,I'd go for tinned,,, as wirh any beans I cook , I have to add some butter ,as they lack the taste for me ... and they can be heinz or supermarket saver ones .
Try doing a tin one again ,with about a spoon of butter. See if the taste improves ??
I prefer the tin Dan, 95g more and a lot cheaper. You can always add a little flavour or more ingredients to your homemade bag. Great vid with top tips.
‘95 grams more’…. That’s a good point,
as well being being cheaper you are also getting more contents in the tin that what is contained in the MRE packet. 🤔
I'll go for tinned to be best. Personally I have used the British Army all day breakfast pouches in the past.
The wayfarer pouch you will find it has more goodness in it like calories etc as it is designed specifically for outdoor venture as with ration packs for M.O.D😊
Little bag of mild curry powder to spice things up and give either a bit of extra flavour.
I like the tinned breakfast. The "meatballs" used to have egg in them but it's awhile since I have had one since the price doubled from 99p. Only £1.99 in farmfoods
Put a little know of salted butter in before cooking thickens the sauce and adds flavour
I prefer Taste and Quality they go hand and hand. I also buy items if i like em and found any dehydrated id buy them for sure gotta stay with water in jugs or cases leave bottles in vehicle or tent lets go hiking then we can eat later.
The best of them all were the Morrisons all day breakfast, sausages, proper bacon and black pudding nuggets with beans and the sausages were proper sausages as well not those mushy things.
I would use the tin, but add some tomato puree to increase tomato flavour
I am a bit of an Armagghedon camper. I want simple and lightweight nowadays. And dehydrated food generally has a really really long shelf life. Does it taste like a full English from a greasy spoon? No. Absolutly not! When you wake up from a cold night camp, it is the best thing next to a cowboy coffee! :) Expensive? Yes. But at least you aren't carrying around heavy aluminium cans. Yes, aluminium cans are recycalble. Dehydrated camping meals... probable not so. I am ... torn really. Bugger! 🤣
I make my own energy bars for snacking between meals great energy boost
I'd say the tin will taste better, although like some of the others who have commented I usually knock up my own brekky at home and then just warm it up at camp
And after watching the video to the end..... I was wrong 🤣🤣🤣
I find the wayfarer very salty, and think this may be a good thing if one has lost salt walking ect, cheers Dan for your content .
I think the tinned will taste best
try making cowboy beans with the tin- add a oxo cube for a change and more flavour
Tinned sounds better to me but it's extra weight, bulk and rubbish to carry around. If I was on a multi day hike I'd take the mre but at home I'd have the tinned stuff, you can always add more seasoning to improve it.
I think the tinned one will taste the best x
My guess is the wayfarer will taste better but it won't taste good enough to justify the price difference between the two
Id go for the tin...less plastic.
Can squash a tin flat as well after so the rubbish take up less space
I would try different tinned all day breakfasts,
Tinned, stick it in a zip lock bag and freeze it flat in freezer, then take it out whenever, then add to boiled water
If there is two people it is too expensive for me you can make it at home and take it with you and its cheaper
What size are the bags. I'm going to try some 😊
I used to eat those dehydrated / ready type meals , but they just seam to bung me up. Would not bother with them now tbh . Koko chicken or curry noodles with a pepperami chopped up in in does me lol . Honest try it , you will love it .
Tinned will be best , used to have them when I carp fished years ago
Quick question for you, can you re-use those Sealy-bags if you wash em out? Or are they single use ones?
🥰
I think Trevor from Summit or Nothing washes and reuses them.
@@marvinnappermarvo are you sure you're on about the bags?
Lol!!!
🤗😆😂🤣
All day breakfast like that isn’t a thing in America. Maybe the tins are better in some meals but everyone complains about the weight…if you have to carry the water too you don’t save much. Have fun stay safe.
I will always take actual bacon, sausages, black pudding and beans and bread and butter. And petrol.
Find some polystyrene, theres always some, that goes in the empty bean can with petrol and you cook the lot in one frying pan on the resulting napalm,
fry the bread as well.
Don't forget brown sauce and tea. 🎉🎉🎉
I am getting over the flu too buddy. I know how you feel.👍
Tinned all day brekkie will be the best.
The tinned one Dan, but has the other got more calories. I’ve tried both. Maxx
Tinned is best with sauce added at the end
I like the one in the tin ( or as we say the can (( since cans don't use tin anymore)) )
im thinking of getting a food dehydrater and make curries, chilli con carne, and beef stew with dumplings etc once im up and running dan ill send you some freebies for you to test yourself
What's the calorific difference? Which packs the bigger punch in calories? What is the fat/salt/sugar content?
