I'm very disappointed the McFarlande just doesn't want to include alternate heads with their figures, like you would have to buy a whole separate one to get an unmasked Batman most the time.
Maybe ben affleck didn't allowed The use of his face in today figures, maybe he's so tired of batman that he dosen't even want to se his face on batman figures.
I know I'm going to upset a lot of Mattel fans with this, but I'm seriously glad McFarlane took over the license. For their time, these figures from Mattel were very backward, even compared to some figures from the early years of the toy biz. If only McFarlane had this thigh cut, it would literally be like comparing a collectible figure to a toy. ;D

These are more works of art than action figures for the average fan. And as for the fact that McFarlane only makes single exclusives well, let's say Scarecrow from Arkham, Killer Croc, Booster Gold and Blue Beetle, even Blight. All of them are honestly, in my opinion, great regular release figures. ;/
I would be fine with McFarlane Toys taking over the license if they didn't ignore the years of history that DC had with the 6-inch scale and Mattel had a lot more variety with their releases

They should seriously focus on the side characters and not several dozen figures of one main character. As for the scale, older fans probably prefer 6 inches, but I honestly prefer the 7-inch one because 6 inches just seem small, especially considering the price of Marvel Legends.
Anyone saying Mattel is better are purposely trying to go against the grain. Even for their day, Mattel figures were so behind the curve. Mcfarlanes aren’t perfect but they’re a hell of a lot better

Another playability feature is that the Mattel figures scale beautifully with the Hasbro Marvel Legends, meaning if you want a DCEU vs MCU or a team up, they actually look decent together.
Yeah that's why I've always stuck with DCUC and never gotten on the McFarlane line. I like all my figures to scale together so they look like they could exist in the same world and interact with each other and Mattel's figures are compatible with so many other lines whereas McFarlane only really works with maybe some NECA stuff or Marvel Select.

That's actually cool, honestly I don't care to much on scale combining hasbro marvel figures and mcfarlane dc figures because I didn't have The chance to get The mattel dc figures, also I just care about The scale o my transformers collection.
One thing that’s interesting is that the Mattel suicide squad Batman actually came in two variants; one with the silver grey paint job and one with a more matted and darker grey. It really makes the figure look so much better in my opinion.
awesome video Jason! I can’t believe that the Mattel bvs suit figure vs McFarlane’s bvs suit figure ended in a tied. But then again despite of Mattel’s age it holds up pretty shockingly good somehow despite the articulation being a bit aged. I’ve had the dark knight returns Batman figure done by Mattel and my gosh he still holds up somehow.
I am not a snyder nor dceu fan but man, do I miss the bvs/suicide squad era. I was really starting to get into batman with playing arkham asylum and going into comic shops to look at figures. back then dc direct was an actual brand and not just somthing mcfarlane slaps on random products. i do miss getting to see character like deadshot and harely quinn on screen for the first time, even though those portryals were awful an so were the movies they were in. the dceu had a lot of potential befor it fizzled out completely in the next couple of years. I guess now we will go back to that with the new dc movies gunn is making but of course, it will never be the same. anywho great review as always!

Great comparison! The one I would like to see, though, is the Mcfarlane with the new 1/9th-scale Batfleck from Fondjoy. I think the Fondjoy one looks much better, and I would like to see how well it scales with the other McFarlane Justice League members since the McFarlane Batfleck is too small.
I did a Kitbash with several figures from Mattel, using the darker body from the TRU unmasked version, a custom pleather cape, the cowl from the regular BvS release and the accesories and head from the Suicide Squad figure. All that combined made a FANTASTIC figure.
Great video jason, I got The mcfarlane figure weeks ago and Im fasinated with it, sure is not 100% acuratte I really loved it because batfleck is my favorite live action batman and I finally got in my opinion The best live action batman suit.
I think the intention may have been to suggest that the cape originally had them, but through wear and tear the bottom of the cape was really tatty and torn and muddy so they weren't very obvious. I do think Mattel's is more evocative of the cape as seen in the movie even if it isn't 100% accurate.
Both the rebirth Batman and Flash movie Batman have really good ab crunch forward so don't think that's a sign it was meant to be in a multi pack as neither of those figures were. And most plastic capes plug in with a square piece with a square notch in the back.
I am happy to see a review that objectively looks at this figure. Cause honestly that McFarlane doesn’t match the proportions or look of Batman in that movie. It looks more like the digitally rendered promotional art they used for the merchandising when BVS came out. Thanks for the good review!
Definitely gonna pick it up. Not a fan of the film, but prefer this look over the Justice League look. That was a interesting day when me and my family went to see that movie. I don’t think they knew what to think 😂.
Batman V Superman? Yeah. Fun story, when I saw it on opening night, there was a terrible storm going on, and the theater lost power when Doomsday showed up, and I had to see it again just to know how it ended. I mean, I was gonna anyway but... Lol
I still like The Mattel version. He scales with The Ben Afflek Daredevil and with Marvel Legends. I wish McFarlane had not started a new scale for his figures. It would have been nice to do a Marvel VS DC thing.

I am honestly hating this soft goods era... Admittedly this cape looks better than most soft goods that usually are SUPER cheap looking but as someone who doesn't unbox soft goods don't always have the best presentation. I always seem to get the box put together by the world's most disgruntled packaging person and I must look at my figure with that slight askew this or that.
I am honestly conflicted. The fact that they're also starting to incorporate wires and some of the caves, like the Earth-2 Superman I just looked at, really excites me. And in terms of action figure photography, I like when I can use figure stands and things off camera like in this video to make it look like the cape is flapping. My bigger issue is the quality of fabric. On a figure like this or Christian Bale batman, were those capes were very basic fabricy, it's fine. But then you have figures like Michael Keaton or Val Kilmer and you put this kind of gym short fabric for the cape and it's all wrong. So we'll see where this goes. Based on the promotional images it looks like they did upgrade the fabric for First Appearance Batman, so I'll see how I feel once I get that in hand.
I'm ride or die for Mattel, I think their DCUC line was absolutely stunning and far better than anything McFarlane has given us to date except in terms of articulation. Yes, they kind of lost their way a bit with their later figures but this Batman isn't one of them; its stocky proportions are just brilliant and far more evocative of the source material than McFarlane's which has the spindly proportions of one of those 12" Spin Master figures. The lack of painted detail - which Mattel DID get right - only reinforces that feeling.
Listen this might be a stretch but for a video I saw on a dc multiverse mcfarlane toys superman earth two crisis on infinite earths review he perfectly scales well with batman hush or year two it might just be a bit of mistake on yours in your video but I doubt that hush batman is taller than the new taller earth 2 superman buck because Todd made a new superman buck to simply go along well with hush or year two batman Jason

As for guns... Keaton AND Bale used them too. AND he's used them numerous times in the actual comics. And BOTH Keaton and Bale have higher body counts than Affleck. But for some reason Affleck is the ONLY actor who gets this criticism.
Mattel were ugly ass toys for kids, not for adult collectors. I jumped into buying toys thanks to this line. Otherwise my saving accouts would be bigger lol

I knew the BvS was gray, but I wasn't aware of a gray version of the Suicide Squad one. I will say, I do like the silver. It really pops

Batfleck definitely had the scallops on his cape edge. Just watch any scene when he's jumping and the movie shows his CGI cape

I think that the Mattel Suicide Squad Batman is even better than the BVs Batman. The grey sections are a little darker and less glossy.
I've been curious what this figure looks like with the muff toys and mezco bvs batfleck head but people only ever put the justice league head on it!
