+1 for the Bolt, awesomely flexible mech. Quad high mounted ballistics are fantastic and the arm missile mounts are also above the head. Crael? Decent enough but everyone just boats MGs. RACs, LMGs and rockets FTW!
Gauss isn't that hard, you just need to hide until your teammates draw all of the enemy's attention and then pick at them while they're not looking at you. Personally, I don't have the patience or self control to be a sniper, but I see the appeal of not having to be the one who engages.
You're right about range. Good on ER larges, less good on ER PPC (IMO at least).
