I am new to these birds and I'm glad I watched this. I didn't know they would shake their heads like that. If I had seen mine doing this I may have thought something was wrong. Wonderful birds. I love mine.
Do him a favor and give him a reason to dance at least 😁 It shouldn't be kept alone dude. Well, your comment dates from one year ago; hope you had made the right and only choice.
Wait. They only mate in the nest boxes? Mine are behaving like this and the male seems to be building a nest . . . But I only have a bamboo finch nest - do I need a different type of nest?
His setup may not work for your gouldians. Gouldian hens are the boss when mating and she will choose a nest that looks like what SHE fledged from. Ask your own gouldian breeder what kind of box they use (wood, plastic, etc) Gouldians breed and hatch in a box nest. They are terrible nest builders, so make a nest of coco fibre (most sanitary) inside the box. The male will enter (proclaim he made it) and within a few hours the female will inspect. And if she likes it , they will mate for about 3 days in the box. Lots of rockin and rolling. Good luck.

Sorry, but these birds were naturally raised by a pair of Gouldians. They did mate in the nest box. They were just overly anxious to get on with it because they were in the same room , but in separate cages until I put them together to breed :)
@@andytodzia1224 If your male is over eager he may toss the kids on day 3 of hatching. (this is when they vocalize). Go to my channel if you need help raising the tosslings. I have years of experience and an entire series dedicated from toss to wean handfeeding there. They are lovely. Good luck on your gouldian journey. Yes your hen does love him very much. PS: They mate for life. Try not to separate them.
@@andytodzia1224 I apologize . I call these over eager females "helicopters". Hen is so in love her tail feathers will go crazy & almost helicopter her out of the cage. Those are great hens for moms. Still have never seen a perch breeding before. But there is always a first time.
Great dance I would like you to give me permission to use 10-15 seconds of this video in an educational project on my channel. There will be a report on your channel for the duration of the excerpt. Do i have your permission?
And many other similar size birds and beaks. Make sure their cage is fairly large for 6 or more birds . Stay away from weavers. Zebras, stars , munia , etc . Small together
I was doing a goldfinch search and this popped up. These birds are adorable. They look like a plain dark bird wearing a hooded colorful sweatshirt.

@@alejandroperalta1982 You'll need a pair. It's a mating dance.
@@billastell3753 I know, and the best thing is that they're not that expensive either.
That's so funny how male performs the mating dance.

No perch inside the nest box. I don't have a video showing complete setup and I don't know how to upload just a pic to TH-cam.

Do the breed better in closed off enclosures like this or cage enclosure?
Our birds do. But we have had success with typical wire breeding cages, but better success with the home built ones as in the video.
Naturally raised Gouldian's never mate on the perch. They mate inside the nest. Those are NOT naturally RAISED GOULDS

Are red faced and black faced the same species?
Same. Just a geographic variation.
@@billastell3753 Thank you. Do they naturally mix and breed in the wild?
@@Howarth78 From what I've read they do at the borders where their ranges overlap. They are becoming very rare in the wild do to habitat destruction.
