Rankings at the end of the season are a bit influenced by the preseason rankings, which are influenced by how teams finished the year before. Every year the teams are similar but different, so I think waiting until week 4 to rank teams would reduce the bias from the previous season & get the postseason regular season rankings more accurate.
Just a thought...Do you believe that the only thing sports media rights companies are interested in is their profits with schools? If so, what is to keep them from taking all of their data analytics on each college team and using artificial intelligence to do away with all of the NIL, coaching staff, administrators, and most of the play-by-play callers in order to significantly shrink their margins while improving their own profitability on each AI sporting event?
Every FBS conference winner should be in. If there's 12 teams in the playoff, that makes only 3 at larges. That gives Poor Little Notre Dame a shot. And take school/conference reps completely out of the polling/selection process.
Nah, I really don't think we need the MAC champion in and keeping out power conference runner ups. Teams that play in these power conferences should be rewarded for having tougher schedules.
I'm totally fine with the conference champions getting byes and homefield advantage. If it's not an advantage to win your conference, why have conferences? You were skinny and had hair?
Totally agree. The five conference champs should get a bye or a home game. I mean, if only there was another entity that played football, with a playoff structure and really great TV ratings. That had champs of each division get home games or possibly a bye, and these at-large teams go on the road. Maybe I am crazy but that would be a Super system of Bowls to copy if only it existed. 😉
College football had some problems though that the NFL doesn't have to deal with. Every team there is on an even playing field but it's very different with colleges.
@joeym5243 True, but you still have the same issue of not everyone plays each other. Odds are that the Chargers are better than the champ of the AFC South, or that the Lions/Vikings loser is better than the champ of both the NFC South and NFC West. But we don't know for sure, so we acknowledge the work that they did, playing the schedule they were given with either a bye or home game for the division champs and the wildcards get in. That can work in football as well. Plus, if you want to see a better game than UT hosting Clemson, play it in Death Valley. Or Boise State or ASU could have hosted a first round game.
@dougspencer8804 most of the power conference teams are basically in a different league than the G5. Every few years one of them does put together a competitive team but it's never more than one or two at most and that certainly doesn't justify having all 9-10 conference champs in the playoffs. There is so much parity in the NFL and cross play that you can justify the division system they have plus it helps make rivalry games.
@@joeym5243 I agree. That's why I said the 5 conference champs as is the format now. I would just get it in writing it is the P4 and top ranked G5 champ.
Conference championship is an objective means of determining placement.
No eye test, no regional bias, no money... just win your conference.
Any team that plays on a smurf blue field should automatically be disqualified.
It's hard to argue against this.
16 team with top two from the big four getting in, which allows 8 berths up for grabs.
They have been at this plan for 20 years and people are just now seeing it?

How many games we gonna make these kids play? These is not basketball. Totally different toll on these young bodies.
If you expand to 16, conference champions should be guaranteed to get the first round home game….actually would be a good idea.
