This mantra is addressing a mumukshu who is seeking the truth, whose journey probably began 1000's of years back to come to this point.
The teacher is showing the indicators with which attention must be shifted to the indicated
There are two obstacles that a student/seeker of truth might face:
He might not be interested
He gets stuck in the indicators
Study of shastras don't fulfill their purpose till complete cessation of all sorrow happens (Dukha nivrutti)
This mantra has the potential to set us free, if after hearing it, reflecting on it, we meditate on it and own it up
Upanishads are like a mirror, whatever bhavana we approach it with, that is the same bhavana with which they reveal themselves to us.
Whatever thing we deny, that thing eventually denies us. If we want to befriend the Upanishads, we must spend a lot of time with them
