Just discovered you today and am going to paint along. Love the bright colors! I have always enjoyed adding colors to water on the paper, so this should be tons of fun!
🥰 I did it. It is not perfect but it is way nicer than I thought it would be. From a distance it actually looks amazing 😜. My main fear is to add water!
This was simple, and fun, and mine almost looks like a fish! For a first-timer, it was quick and I learned a lot, thank you! I'll be definitely be trying the fish again for practice! 🙂
Thank you so much for sharing! I didn't leave enough white spaces & not enough water & to much color in the bleed outs but I had fun & will try again. Happy New Year! 🎉
Thank you for doing this for us. I struggle with the fluidity of water color so it’s always hard for me. I LOVED the scraping as it lent so much character to my fish. I felt it looked awful when video was done but hung in there as I know there is usually an ugly stage to work through. I kept going and now I am ok with it. felt like I learned a lot and great way to start the New Year. Thanks and look forward to the next one!
Thank you for this introduction to your method. You showed me several new things about how to use the water to mix colors on the page. I initially misunderstood about the scraping (scraped the paper underneath), but now I think I understand it is another way of moving color! Thank you for your generosity!
Very impressive skills and excellent video. Thank you so much for enhancing my own. I look forward to more of your videos. I have never hit the bell notification before YOU and I have been watching TH-cam videos for several years. You paint beautifully.
This was so fun! I tried a few new techniques like scraping and letting the fins flow into the background. I absolutely loved both and will most definitely be using them again. I look forward to tomorrow's video. ❤
Thanks for the tutorials! I had a rough time getting my paper to scratch and show white underneath. I think my tool wasn't sharp enough. I'll experiment on a scratch piece of paper. I've enjoyed all of your videos and am along for the whole month. So much fun!
I'm glad you're enjoying the videos and I hope the rest of the month is a blast! Your scraping tool shouldn't need to be too sharp - the key is paper that is still wet but almost dry with a lot of pigment on it. I had to practice a lot and still do with this technique!
Thank you! I've learned a lot!! My paper needed to be wetter, either to thick or to thin paint. I will definitely do another one. My eye turned out the best!!
Ooo that's fun when the eyes look good, it makes the whole painting! This is a great exercise for learning about water control, and it sounds like you did!
Yay! Yes - scraping takes practice. My guess is your painting was too wet, or there wasn't enough pigment to either settle into the scraped lines or be pushed away by scraping. Scraping works best in areas of heavy pigment.
I'm so new to WC so I'm watching once or twice before attempting. Can you speak more to tracing the outline onto the paper? I can't freehand very well and don't have a light box. Should I get some carbon?
I have been working on a kids book and have tried different mediums.I have been trying what you are demonstrating to my subjects,a mallard duck family.I would really appreciate it if you could demonstrate this.I realize that this may not be worth your effort.I will keep practicing anyway.Thank you.D.H.
I know you’ve gotten a lot of feedback but I just want to add how excited I am for this course too! Not sure if I appropriately signed up. I could only find a way to sign up for your newsletter
I am so excited that you are so excited! Technically, you don't have to sign up for anything, since it's just a series of videos on TH-cam. But signing up for my emails like you did will ensure you get any course-related emails and extra goodies I have planned throughout the program!
Hi! TYSM for this course! I’m def doing it!!!! Question: I realize this is wet on wet; but is there a name for this style of WC? It’s my favorite yet I can’t find a lot of material for it. The loose, abstract type of WC. I love it!!!
It's a kind of unique approach to wet-in-wet, I don't really have a name for it, other than the 3-step process. I just love having a combination of loose and detailed, and I found this is a great way to achieve that. Thank you so much for your kind words!
So it's scheduled for 10am CST - if your video says it premieres at 9am I'm guessing TH-cam automatically adjusts the premiere time for whatever time zone you are in!
Are you able to check a box that says "actual size" or adjust the size of the image before you print it? It's really up to you how big you want to paint it, so I'm hoping you can adjust the print size. During the video you'll see that I'm painting it on 9x12 paper, and the fish itself is about 6 inches long. I hope that works for you!
Fantastic!! I have never painted this loosely and I LOVE it! Thank you so much. Look forward to watching your other tutorials.
Ahhh! I love that you are loving it!

So fun to use some bright colors. Scraping was cool too. First time trying. Love your channel and learning from you. ❤
Thanks so much!

Awesome! And goodness you're not alone in that fear!
I'm very excited for this course. Very generous of you to share your talent.
I’m so glad you’re joining in!
I did it! It turned out perfect thank you so much❤❤❤
That's so cool! I'd love to see a pic if you want to share! www.aquilawatercolor.com/share

Thank you! This was so much fun❤. As others have stated, not perfect but beautiful in its own way.
😊😊😊
I can’t wait to try this. I enjoy the way you teach. You make watercolor fun…..and I love seeing your cats in your studio. 😊
Oh thank you so much!
This was an eye opening lesson ! I have never added this much water before seeing this . Magical ! Thank you
Yes, it really is magical! 😊
Loved trying this 🐠
😊😊😊
Thank you so much for sharing! I didn't leave enough white spaces & not enough water & to much color in the bleed outs but I had fun & will try again. Happy New Year! 🎉
Sounds like you learned a lot for next time! Happy 2025!
That was fun! My paint dried too fast so I guess I had better speed up my painting! I’ll try again! Thank you! And Happy New Year!
You might just need more water Sharon! I painted this fish twice too, always a student myself!
@ Thank you! I will add more water and try to paint a little faster with my next attempt!
Maybe your paper dries faster? Because it is made of something else?
@ thank you for your idea! I will try a 100% cotton paper today!
What a great way to start the year!
Tks great tutorial !!!
take care dear.

Yes, there usually is an ugly stage! Thank you for the great feedback!
Beautiful!❤
I love this!❤ I Will try this when I get home from holidays. Thank you
I hope you love it!

Oh wonderful thank you!
That was a fun project. Loved (and hated) the looseness of the watercolour. Mostly loved. Great start by jumping in with two feet. Thanks
Haha, I get that!

I’m excited to give this fish a try 💗
I hope you do!
I love that your paper’s tooth/texture almost looks like fish scales.
Goodness I didn't even think of that!
Great start to learning watercolor, thank you for sharing. I haven't ever touched this medium and was quite happy with my li'l fishy 🐠
Yay this is the best!
Ooooo! I just found your channel and currently trying to learn watercolor! Excited to try this and check out more videos. But just subscribed! ❤
So great to have you here!
What fun! Came out well. Can't wait for the next one.
😊😊😊
I loved watching your process! Will have to play along next time!
Yes!
Love, love, loved this tutorial .... I can't wait for more! :)
Thank you Robyn!
Beautiful colors❤❤❤🎉
Thank you! 🤗
Trank you a wonderful painting.

😊🎨😊
Thank you for sharing your talent. Looking forward to the next installments. What happened to the 🐈⬛?
I wish my cats always wanted to join me in filming, but sometimes they are doing their own thing. cats.
So fun! I learned a lot and will try this fish again tomorrow!
Michelle! I saw your pic on Facebook! So cool!
Enjoyed the tutorial.
2PM I watched it, and loved it. The difficulty for me was having any scraping show through. Was that because my surface was too wet or too dry?
Yay! Yes - scraping takes practice. My guess is your painting was too wet, or there wasn't enough pigment to either settle into the scraped lines or be pushed away by scraping. Scraping works best in areas of heavy pigment.

That is a good plan. I would suggest watching my video about tracing for a good overview: th-cam.com/video/n5ofDo0olkw/w-d-xo.html
I have been working on a kids book and have tried different mediums.I have been trying what you are demonstrating to my subjects,a mallard duck family.I would really appreciate it if you could demonstrate this.I realize that this may not be worth your effort.I will keep practicing anyway.Thank you.D.H.
Do you mean demo a mallard duck? Best of luck to you with your children's book, so exciting!
I am trying to picture a pair of mallards with 12 ducklings in different situations in the simplest way I can.5 day old ducklings.D.H.
I know you’ve gotten a lot of feedback but I just want to add how excited I am for this course too! Not sure if I appropriately signed up. I could only find a way to sign up for your newsletter

Olá. No TH-cam studio, pelo conputador, há a opção dublagem automatica. Adoraria ver sua versão em portuguê. Um beijo daqui de Fortaleza Brasil
Oh I didn't know what that was! I will try to do that when I upload my next video, thank you!
i did it.. not as beautiful as yours but it was fun :-)
Yay! I'm so glad you had fun and I bet you learned a lot!
@@aquilawatercolor now it's dry and better than what i thought🤩
How are you deciding which color goes where?
Mostly just following what I see in the reference photo!
@ looking at the value of the picture?
I love mine thank-you but I can't share it in the comments x
Yay! And you can share it with me here if you'd like! www.aquilawatercolor.com/share
Where do I find the fish to trace? Thank you
The link should be in the description!
9 am in what time zone?😊
So it's scheduled for 10am CST - if your video says it premieres at 9am I'm guessing TH-cam automatically adjusts the premiere time for whatever time zone you are in!
One quick question? In printing my fish template its small on the page. Is it to be like this? I thought it would fit an 8x10 at least. Can you help?
Are you able to check a box that says "actual size" or adjust the size of the image before you print it? @aquilawatercolor thanks, I will see what I can do.
You are moving kinda quickly. I will have to rewatch
You can watch as many times as you need to, and I believe you can slow down the playback speed by tapping on the gear icon while watching the video!
