You should do a video on pairing reeds, mouthpieces, necks, etc. with saxes. I'm sure many of us sax players would be interested in that.

Both necks sound great, but the $90 neck seems slightly brighter that the Cannonball neck. Not necessarily a bad thing.

Sirvalor, its a joy both to listen to you play and to hear you talk so lucidly and honestly about what we just heard. I learn so much every time. I don't know if your talent will get you a recording deal (it should!) but your range will probably get you signed to Marvel - its super-human! It would be great to hear you release some tracks on Bandcamp - I'd love to sit down and hear you play your own music.

I always call it the neck tenon. The thing I call a neck plug is the plastic bit that plugs the neck and protects octave mechanism while in case.

I bought a neck for my Bari to accommodate a large bore Berg Larsen mouthpiece. The neck was sold by Songtielun on eBay and shipped from China. It did take 2 weeks to get here. The finish was perfect and it played very well with the Berg Larsen and a 2 1/2 reed. It was just a bit long so I trimmed about 20mm off the mouthpiece end and recorked it. No complaints and it cost $99. Even though I primarily play Bari, I enjoy your channel and I benefit from your insights. I look forward to your next video.

Very happy with Eastern neck on my 1965 mk VI. Original neck has more complexity harmonically but eastern works great for funk, fusion . latin etc where power and very strong centered tone are needed. Straight ahead and ballads i go for the original.

It seems like that Eastern Music neck is a little more brighter than the Cannonball neck. For the price of that Eastern Music neck, that sure is a very good deal. Great video, too. Thanks!

I used to have a Buescher Aristocrat tenor that actually sounded better with a French Beaugnier neck than with the Buescher neck. But yes, there's a lot of difference (also in intonation) between necks.

I have to say that it sounded REALLY good compared to the Cannon Ball necks. But that´s my ears! i am checking it out as a second neck for my Yanagisawa TW020 Bronze unlacquered.
Same reason-mouthpiece size. Eastern has the same underslung octave key as my horn.

I got an eastern music power neck, alto, underslung. The neck quality was awful. terrible qc. The tenon was soldered on crooked and the section where it says "power neck" was crooked with solder sticking out around it.
I found it to be really free blowing and the sound is great, but that QC..

I also found that different reed strengths gave me more favorable results, for me softer reeds responded better in the low register and really projected well with out loosing resistance. It was odd. Also the upper register seemed much more brilliant.

I like to start with stiffer reeds and play them until they loosen up. I'll usually play it for 10 to 15 minutes or on a couple of easy songs and then switch to the more comfortable ones until it starts to loosen up more of time.

Good Sir, Very interesting...Thanks, Pretty complicated fluid dynamics happening. Assume free blowing is an inverse function of back pressure.
The mpc/neck interface introduces turbulence.. How about a one piece neck and mpc? or a set? sounds expensive. That shirt instantly pissed me off but the smile is the kicker. I gotta buy one.

    • @curtisvalle5141

Hoe bout an oversized neck with the cork on the inside? tunable, yet reduces constriction. Anybody saw off a neck to reduce the length at the cork? Freer blowing? Not obvious. Rounder tone/intonation issues?

How would you describe the cannonball sound?

    • @Sirvalorsax
      @Sirvalorsax  4 ปีที่แล้ว

I would say they are neutral. The offer many variations of lacquer for their saxes that can lead to a darker or brighter sound but I think compared to a similar horn from a different company, they are pretty neutral. I like this quality in them because it gives me more freedom to go bright or dark as opposed to having to overcome a horn's inherent bright or dark quality. The Dark Amber Lacquer offers a type of "smooth EQ" to my ears.
