You should also check the discharge pressure by using a pressure gauge. Guage pressure should be 350 psig. Then stop the compressor and see that the pressure does not reduce but should hold for at least 30 minutes. This means there is no leak back of the pressure during the cut off cycle.ie the pumping is good

The gasket you had replaced is very important. It cannot be replaced with any other having different thickness. It will adversly effect the "cooling effect" performed by the refrigerant.
Yep, if you're going to replace the gasket then at least get one out of another similar unit which has one intact and not this. This wouldn't last a day if installed into a fridge or freezer. Not to mention that the refrigerant might react with this replacement "gasket". All of these things were considered when the unit was designed and manufactured. And also who on earth tests a compressor by putting their finger against the discharge? And having it blow air over a piece of a wrapper. Seriously? "There you go, it moves air under pretty much zero pressure, surely it will stand up to the temperatures and pressures reached inside a typical refrigeration system." That's like testing how fast a car can go by revving it in neutral. What does that prove? Absolutely nothing. Not to mention that this isn't some big semi-hermetic unit that's worth rebuilding, this is a small hermetic fridge or freezer unit ffs! Why on earth would one want to rebuild one of these (unless it's for your own amusement). And if you're going to rebuild it then at least do it right and use proper parts and do the repair in a clean environment, there's a reason why these compressors last so long, it's because they're completely hermetic. By working in such a dirty environment you introduce contaminants which will greatly reduce the lifespan of the "rebuilt" unit. And also not rubbing the reed valve against a dirty wooden table might be a good start. Not to mention the fact that these units can literally run trouble-free for decades 24/7 and if they do fail from wear they won't blow a gasket. So just repairing the compressor and installing it again into a system which caused it to fail will just make it fail again (the real cause of the failure most of the time is a fault somewhere in the system, not the compressor itself), provided that the makeshift "gasket" doesn't fail within like an hour of operation. I could go on and on...
@@DrFreeeman I know this is a year late, but I wanted to reply to your question (your points about them doing it wrong are absolutely valid). There are several reasons you might want to rebuild instead of replace, one of which is that replacement parts for a fridge compressor tends to cost as much as the fridge itself. There's also the concept of recycling having value instead of being wasteful. Then yeah, the final part, to say you did it. When I buy something, I expect it to last and I'm honestly sick of companies building with subpar parts. If the compressor is weak, then I'd want to fix it instead of replace it (which is what brought me here). If my iPhone battery dies, I expect the ability to replace it instead of fixing it. So on and so on. This "toss it because it's broken" culture is going to be the end of us.
@@RayCarrender Absolutely. I'm all for repairing as much as you can. I came down a bit tok harsh, but you're just not going to have the same compression with a makeshift gasket. Which in turn is going to cause the compressor to run much longer and the system will drop in efficiency, and will cost more to operate. Of course a new compressor can be expensive, in that case it might be a good idea to pick one up from a scrap pile if it isn't too far gone.
@@Nik88584 You mean the gasket? If you really want to do this I suggest using some sort of high temperature rubber or silicone or perhaps some sort of gasket material sheet, but you need to be certain that the oil and refrigerant won't degrade it.
I hope you can understand my question. At one time these compressors were used to make a noise free air compressor for Air Brushing. (air brush painting) I have one. It has sat for a long time not being used. I tried to use it and it makes a lot of loud noise. Do you have any idea what would be making the noise. It is easy to open. It has a band around the tank like a Hose Clamp and will come apart very easy. I looked as you made the gas motor and I do not see anything that would make a lot of noise. If you can help me I would appreciate any advise. Thanks. It has a small air tank. It has very light air compressor oil inside and a pressure regulator, and oil trap in pressure line. Air brushes use low pressure. 40 pounds or less.
