      Look at twitch viewership now... the state of game, players aren't enjoying it anymore. Litertally 25k on a holiday break watching... so damn low its embarrassing honestly. I remember watching 50-80k. Nobody really cares about getting better at this moment too, a lot of it is just players get on and play a couple games and hop off until they're bored again.

      I just feel sad that there's nothing they can do currently to make me play this game again, and i used to love this game. Pve is a joke and they don't care about the workshop, which still insane to me that they don't invest in the workshop anymore. At the end of the day, why would i go back to ow? To grind for skins that i used to have for free? And on top of that ow 2 reworks are not worthy of the "2", the Rog rework for example is basically the same exact character but a bit different, how is that a rework?

      @dgiorr Roadhog rework bad??Bro he was the worst character in the game for multiple seasons and now he's finally a viable pick and you think it was a terrible rework because you think it didn't change anything? Hate to break it to you but not every rework has to change every single ability to something new. Sometimes it just requires minimal changes to how you play the character to be a rework.

    A stable player base is not necessarily a good thing for a f2p game. Since only a small amount of players will spend any amount of money, this puts a hard ceiling on the amount of revenue the game can make, especially after lootboxes were removed. The game needs to constantly pump out new content to keep money flowing in, which the current team has proven to struggle with.

      There only so many skins people will buy. The real money for f2p games comes from weapons and upgrades but OW doesn't have that. Characters have character specific guns that can't change and two weeks into OW2 I can't figure out if I'm even able to improve my stats. Not to mention the battle pass garbage I had to go through just to sign into the game

    • @TappedWalnut
      @TappedWalnut 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Wolfman7870 League has neither, DOTA has neither, CSGO has neither, Valorant has neither, just like Overwatch and those are doing fine.
      Esports scene is a bigger factor imho for Overwatch succes than weapons and upgrades being sold, it's not COD.
      Heroes are meant to be stagnant cause it's meant to be competive, not who brought the better loadout.

    • @Droulix
      @Droulix 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @TappedWalnut my dude, those two factors are easily defeated by the fact that 1: Overwatch had an esports scene and it still got to this point and 2: if the characters are meant to be stagnant then you should mention that to Blizzard because they're constantly giving their characters buffs, nerfs and changing their kit which is essentially like giving them different loadouts each time

    • @TappedWalnut
      @TappedWalnut 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Droulix You really gonna be semantic when i am telling a guy Overwatch isn't COD and that improving stats/loadout isn't a thing?
      Also
      1: The E-sports is nothing compared to what it used to be cause there is hardly any money invested. It's contenders and collegiate but no actually pro scene.
      2: Stagnant as in you can't change loadout/stats my dude. Every game i mentioned has had balance patches, would be kinda fucked if we had release Brig, Xin Zhao, Monkey king etc ....
      wtf are you even on about, balance patches still doesn't mean heroes aren't meant to be stagnant going from game to game not patch to patch ....

    Launch week was BRUTAL. I wont stand for the erasure of what happened. I and any account that "preregistered" (so core players) in was locked out of ow2. And blizzard knew this was a problem. Preregistrating your account lead to your file being unusable on the new server. A dev communication days later explained that they already KNEW about this issue and that a solution was pushed several days out. They ddnt tell the core players who were hovering excitedand refreshing the game client for hours. Ow1 was gone i was locked out of ow2 and watching streamers get on for free. Blizzard, Communicate early and honestly. I could have stopped trying, made a sandwich or touched grass that week.

    OW2 is sustaining, but the game's perception is dying. From once GOTY to now... this. Who knows what next year has in store, but once Bobby leaves, its all on them now- no one else to fall back to.
    And in my opinion, this year, they need to fundamentally change the gameplay of OW2, fix its monetization model, and get back player's trust through mending once broken promises. Is that all possible? Who knows. But seems like Blizzard has no other choice.

    • @Johnsmith36346
      @Johnsmith36346 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nah this sounds retarded to me. They need public attention and that is from like a show or a new cool TH-cam shorts, story mode stuff. If they severely change the gameplay than they risk losing the games current playerbase. I’m a solo longtime player of ow I’ll always play this game, but casuals need cool new shit which requires lots of money which I hope Microsoft provides. Like idk how the fuck this idea that balance patches bring in tons of new players has any fucking traction.

      Is it even possible to mend the broken promises? Nothing short of PVE coming back and absolutely blowing expectations out of the water is going to mend the trust lost over it's cancellation. I don't think anyone realistically believes that's gonna happen, so at that point why have any hope at all?

    • @MutatedAmerican
      @MutatedAmerican 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jamescastle7704 That's the point I was getting at. I've spouted all the things they can fix- some are achievable and some may not be. But the reason why I said the promise thing last was..... well.....
      A broken promise is just that.
      So unless they are able to turn it around other cooler things to help fill that void, alongside an excellent campaign, nothing can truly fulfill that role. As such, it will be difficult for them to recapture their once loyal fanbase and reputation.
      Is it possible? Yes, as we've seen with Cyberpunk and No Man's Sky. But, it will take time, and honestly, that is something Blizzard doesn't have when it comes to their audience thanks to their past. Now that Bobby is gone, they may buy themselves time to mend and fix some of that promise-whether small or big. But at this point, it's all on them, and they'll no one but themselves to blame

    17:10 something I’ve always thought blizzard should add are small tutorials that are specific to every hero in the game. I agree that a new player would probably feel overwhelmed with all the hero options, so unlocking hero’s does kind of make sense, but they might not need to do that if they had hero tutorials that teach players how their abilities work and interact with other abilities.

    17:20 That’s why they usually have Firing Ranges/Training Rooms in order for you to mess around with the characters and figure out who you like playing.
    No offence Flats, but I can’t think of any person who would look at a large roster of characters with around 2/3rds of them inaccessible to the player and think: “Man, I’m sure glad my character choices are so limited right now! 😊” Considering that the first hero I ever played in Overwatch 1 (Zen) and my main hero (Junkrat) would both be locked until I had to grind the necessary amount of challenges just to play them if I was new, it would definitely deter me if I was a newbie. It’d be like if you went to a restaurant that boasted over 100 different types of burgers available but you can only order from a limited menu of 8 and spend $200 total over your visits before you get the ‘privilege’ to order from the full menu.
    Paladins is at 59 Heroes... I regularly play like, 16 of them, and I love trying to mess around with new characters. Yeah, they have characters behind paywalls too. They also let you buy them with the game’s non-premium currency, as well as actually *give* you enough free premium currency to get every 2nd Battlepass.
    Overwatch’s coins require you to grind out 11 challenges just to get a mere 60 each week. Sign into Paladins a full week to get 50 Crystals. Overwatch’s BP is 1000 Coins while Paladin’s BP is 400 Crystals. Both of them clearly want you to spend money, but with Paladins it feels like more of a choice than an obligation with Overwatch.

    For Overwatch to grow its success and popularity, Blizzard needed to make it a huge brand. Multiple, separate games, animated shorts, maybe even a movie or series. They were on track to do just that, but somebody (Bobby Kotick) knew his time was ticking down and wanted short term profits. The game's not dead, but the perception of the game is absolutely dead and nearly impossible to salvage. With PvP there's a community consensus that the game balancing is atrocious, that 5v5 was a mistake, and the monetization is scummy. And with PvE, no matter what they do from here on out, it will always be seen as a watered down version of what the players deserved to have, thus many won't see it as worth purchasing. What are non-OW players supposed to make of this? Things can change now that Kotick is leaving but no one should be getting their hopes up.

That way u get free stuff to encourage player retention and anything new due to the f2p model will be met with more positive behaviour

    One of the reasons on why ow feels bad is that you don’t know which characters might be coming out. Overwatch keeps adding ocs thinking it will be fine if they announce the existence of their ocs a week or two before the hero’s release to “build hype.” Think back to life weaver and illari, characters we didn’t know existed at all now compare that to the hype around sombra, people were literally looking in the sky trying to find a clue on who sombra was meanwhile when illari was released blizzard basically said “oh she killed all her friends and doesn’t know anyone in the ow universe, she’ll be released in 1 week.” Think about how many people want overlord or how much we wanted mauga blizzard has a ton of characters people look forward to but they add random ocs for no reason

    Stop playing the game, the community is toxic af. Also mostly done with it you can hear it in the voices in chat. Also the company is extremly greedy, lied to you several times. Their prices would be illegal if it were another business. I put 3k hours into it. I watched it "develop" over so long. But the only thing that happens is, that the community, the game and the company get progressively worse. Also all new heroes are basically reworks with stronger kits. Mauga is also just a braindead hero. Every match Bastion which is not a hero that belongs in this game. It used to be about mobility. Now it's just oneshotting and 300 hp Tanks playing dps shredding everyone. The uselessness of Rein illustrates pretty well what happend. He chose were to fight as a frontliner with a shield. Now he is a glorified Target dummy, that gets bullied to hell. I play so many hours with so many people. And I regret it. 1000 shitty toxic games of racist hateful people, and 5 good games. That are good because I used the mic and tried the hardest to be friendly and get people to be friendly. Just delete it, my life has improved. I am spending my Time now on things that make me healthy and happy and will have value in the future. And not suck the life out of me with more and more lies and more and more stupid design choices. For 1 Skin you can buy 10 Brilliant games. Just quit the game and show blizzard who they truly are. Thieves liers and treating their own workers, customers and fans -> Like shit.

    The reason low ranks said Brig was fine before nerfs is because most of us had to be that solo queue guy he was describing earlier - needing to play support or tank with 5 DPS teammates that flame YOU for dying so much. Launch Brig let you easily fill both roles and made those games winnable before role queue existed.
    Higher rank players all wanted to win and probably didn't run into 6-DPS-insta-lose games as often. If you had a 2-2-2 comp or a GOATs comp and a good Brig, then she was super broken. When you've had to play nothing but Mercy in 5-DPS games whenever your friends aren't on, Brig was a godsend to let you have fun not getting dumpstered by enemy DPS all game. YOU could be the menace for a change and beat the crap out of the entire enemy team without ever dying. If your selfish team happened to get some rally healing in the meantime, all the better. Launch Brig was a gift to the low rank pre-role-queue flex players. She was NOT balanced, but she was the fun that more casual flex players needed at the time.

    Overwatch isn't dying because its already dead. the only people that are still playing are the people that have been around for awhile and have nowhere else to go. if a new big title dropped tomorrow, overwatch would lose half its player base overnight. i think blizzard is kinda lucky at this point, it doesn't matter how bad they fuck up because you can't kill a game that's already dead.

  • @linusgustafsson2629

    I think it is ironic how people think Brig and Mercy has always been OP, yet the entire group of support players in bronze, silver, gold, plat, have not moved on to diamond by pure game balance issues.
    In the end, the characters being OP could never really win games because players didn't play as teams and trickle in alone and run away on their own even from start of game etc.

    • @Karatarari

    I just disagree with Flats when he argues for limiting heroes for new players. How could having too many heroes be "bad"? That doesn't make sense to me. I would understand if you said the game is free and this is their monetization strategy, but claiming that too many heroes is overwhelming for new players seems odd. Plus, he mentioned that all heroes will be unlocked by the time players are ready for ranked, but what about those who just want to play casually and try out different modes? In my opinion, Flats is overcomplicating what is essentially a flawed monetization system.

    Just wanted to add input on whales because I think there was a bit of a misunderstanding:
    Whales aren't defined by their income, but by how easily they can be targeted by (often predatory) systems such as microtransactions. Whether they're rich or poor doesn't matter, a child with their parent's credit card is just as much of a whale as the man playing mobile games in his mansion. It's a term used to describe weak willed (and potentially neurodivergent) people who can easily be preyed upon for the most profit.
    (fyi. not agreeing/disagreeing with Flats' overall point in that section, but I do think this context is important when discussing 'whales' in gaming. It's not just well off people, otherwise there wouldn't be stories of 'whales' going bankrupt over these predatory practices)

    TBH feeling the burnout from playing. Tanks feel too weak and nobody really wants to play this role. Supports are ridiculously broken. They have the dps of an attacker with self healing and escape abilities. They can out 1v1 most of the other classes. The only goals are end of season comp rank and doing the weekly challenges to afford an overpriced skin or the battle pass. And if you do all the weekly challenges for 60 coins you need to do that for 17 weeks for the battlepass (roughly 2 seasons worth). Luckily, this seasons battle pass was the worst in a long time (IMO). Then the challenges, Play 23-45 QP games, 8-15 Arcade games, 15-30 comp games, then it is usually the saves/assists challenge that needs a little more gameplay. Even this Winterland christmas event, you have to pay 500 coins to get the legendary skins and the widow is an old one and the rein is just a regular one.

    21:46 I have to disagree. Developers have gone to conferences like GDC, and have specifically shown that it's whales that power those games. They are not the only one's powering those games, but they are the heavy hitters for games that utilize predatory monetization strategies. People with impulse control issues, not necessarily wealthy, but are prone to the same stability issues that problem gamblers face psychologically. I'm not saying there aren't people who occasionally partake in a little bit of microtransactions for a game that they enjoy (I myself have done so) and I'm also not saying that there aren't people who will talk all kinds of mess on a game only to then go in and Play it anyway, but when it comes to games like Diablo immortal which is the one shown on screen, and almost certainly to a lesser extent games like OverWatch, developers abusing the psychological weaknesses of those people that we call whales is factually how a lot of these games power their engines. That's just the truth

When TF2 was dying, and bleeding the last bastion of its players, (the xbox version was legit dead) it also went free to play. They added microtransactions and a player economy. Stop trying to justify insane game/in-game item prices by comparing it with luxuries like drinking at expensive bars and taking ubers around. Gaming should be something that can be enjoyed by everyone regardless of your social class. That was what made it great. Now big titles are becoming 60-70++USD, making it near impossible to afford for people living in developing countries or weak currencies. It's not even a cosmetics issue, you see how they purposely made Mauga overpowered and you can only get him after grinding everyday for at least 1-2 weeks. And if you have a full time job and live in a poor country you are literally not on the same playing field as the opponent team.
