Wow, such a great chat about Galaxy's Edge in this video, thanks guys! You are so spot on saying the land is out of scale with Disneyland. It also doesn't fit in because the sequel trilogy doesn't feel "classic" as I'd expect at Disneyland. I'd like to see them re-theme Rise of the Resistance as Rise of the Rebels -- with Darth Vader, etc. -- for Star Wars' 50th anniversary in 2027.
9:20 this 💯% There is no reason Rivers of America at Magic Kingdom could not be everything it’s counterpart at Disneyland is.
Another great video OG & Italiano!! Happy to see Slimer and Starship!! Such a great topic to talk about all the controversies with Disney. It’s funny how some people say they want new things but then they get mad after it’s announced where they are going. I think we should just wait and see before we make a judgement.
Every time I’m almost convinced about replacing ROA with Cars… I just can’t get over the fact it doesn’t fit with anything that will be surrounding it. Not Villains, not Haunted Mansion, not Country Bears, not Tiana’s. Even Thunder Mountain is a huge stretch.
Didn’t know Epcot had an Indoor Swap Meet called Communicore Hall.
I seem to recall over a decade ago Disney announced a Carsland for one of their parks, and Dis-Twitter lost their minds. Then it opened and all of a sudden everyone loved it. I expect history to repeat itself.
Funny that you mention there was Rumblings of replacing It's a small world with the Tangled boat ride at the Magic Kingdom
Apologies in advance for the long post. I'd like to defend - or explain my take on - Magic Kingdom for a minute (after just returning from a trip) and expand on a few of your theories. I believe - and maybe Disney execs have realized this too - MK does not have to be the nostalgia-based, preservationist park that Disneyland is, but can still honor the spirit of a "castle park". This is because, IMHO, the WDW "ecosystem" (other parks and resorts along with the natural environment of surrounding Kissimmee) operates as the rising tide that raises all ships creating a "greater" than the sum of its parts experience. Don't get me wrong, those resorts and parks also have update issues. But WDW is not just about the blessing of size but also the blessing of plenty. There is SO much at WDW that it is almost too difficult for Disney to completely overwrite everything, nor do they feel the need to - while also supplying new offerings. Yes, I definitely got nervous when I heard about ROA going. But Magic Kingdom is more than a shooting gallery (thankfully) or even ROA. Mr. Toad, Snow White's Scary Adventures, 20,000 Leagues and its lake, etc have all gone... for better and worse - and the park has survived and thrived while keeping the spirit of Walt's original vision of a castle park. In fact, as a non-local passholder, MK, in some ways, reminds me more of 20th century Disneyland more than current Disneyland in both design (Carousel of Progress, Country Bears, the Medieval Fantasyland, TTA Peoplemover, Harmony Barber Shop, the nature-based Railroad, and the Hall of Presidents) as well as execution (general park ops, CMs, and planning). To a lesser degree the two parks do not need to mirror each other because the audiences for MK and Disneyland are very different - but that's a bigger discussion. Some might think I'm grasping for straws, but I feel confident in the future of MK because of the what the park has evolved into. If ROA goes (and I still think ROA is more likely gone than not) - or other future areas (Liberty Square, the Speedway), MK is about progress along with preservation. I think those needs are actually balanced well within the ecosystem and audience for WDW and it can do both at its own pace.
I haven’t been to WDW, but from the photos and videos online, there does look like a bias to Disneyland in CA, which isn’t necessarily always a bad thing since it is Walt’s park. But I agree with you all cause more care should be given to MK. With that said, I hope Cars Land at MK is superior from an aesthetic and business perspective. I bet there have always been issues with getting people onto the island at MK.
DVC lounges are the Spirit Halloween of the Magic Kingdom
As a DVC member, I appreciate the lounges and am looking forward to them.
You're argument for removing the Rivers of America.... to keep it because it is pretty? I don't disagree on the need to keep the beauty of the parks, you are spot on with that! but the concept art for cars ALSO looks very beautiful. And, it will increase capacity. Which the Magic Kingdom really needs. The river takes up a ton of space and has very very little capacity. Things must change, putting the Cars land there (though i wish they would just keep the river and build the land since they have the space) is better than keeping the same level of capacity! Just sad that they can't keep the rivers and build the land. :/
*ahem*... "pop" is what they call it in WESTERN Pennsylvania, not the entire state. Over here on the cooler corner of the state, we refer to it by the correct term of "soda."
I think they're just worried that Floridians will use the shooting gallery and then just leave the park and get motivated to continue (no offense to Floridians reading this, if you're here, you're one of the cool ones)
the only 2 of these I really care about are Muppets and the parade route in DCA. It's a sin that they already got rid of MuppetVision 3D from DCA and it would be a cardinal sin for them to get rid of it from DHS without any new Muppets attraction coming. As for DCA, yeah, the parade route is a huge question mark for me, If they are getting rid of the Red Car Trolley entirely because of Avatar, that tells me that the Hollywood BLVD that the Trolley and parades use is part of the project in some way, which tells me no more parades going down that way and there is really nowhere else to reroute the parades because the only other way would be to go through Cars and that is as immersive as Avatar is supposed to be so they can't roll parades through there either. Personally, I would rather keep the parade route and NOT get anything Avatar not matter how pretty it is than lose the parade route.
I don't agree with Starship regards to ROA ...i agree with the Italiano, people do not utilise the river, im so looking forward to cars....it will look beautiful and have so much Kinetic energy
I personally wish a small world would be rebuilt in Epcot
I'm with you!
It can replace communicore hall
It would make the perfect capstone to World Showcase.
That would be perfect
In my opinion, it seems to me that getting rid of the Rivers of Americas...was NOT for the purpise of building Cars. The purpose of getting rid of the Rivers of America....is to FINALY get rid of the Rivers of America.
Cali is and will always be the best my bad lol I mean even when cali was red it did red better 🤭 oops 😂😂😂😂 all jokes all jokes lmao 🤣
