Absolutely agree on the age plan. Got my first at 37, then designed my favorite and most beautiful (in my humble opinion) when I turned 49. The artist told me at the time that I was getting too old to get tattoos, and I never went back…to him. Went to other artists. lol. I love the story of your art. Brava

I'm 43 and got a few tattoos in my 20s. In my 30s, I was having my babies/breastfeeding, so I continued my tattoo journey in my 40s. I'm more intentional about the designs (and artists) of my tattoos. My tattoos make me happy and make me feel more like myself (if that makes sense). ❤
Beautiful ink collection there. The one with the white flower...it looks to be Oleander, they can kill you! It might be a secret message you're carrying. Also those are California Poppies, I grow them each year in my NY garden, they remind me of Big Sur and growing up there. The Jacoronda tree is brilliant. It's one of my favorites too. Something about that intense "POP" of colour among all the green in spring. Always enjoy your content. Trust that Miss Daizey got to get some play time in!

I'm 52, never gotten a tattoo, I think about it but I've never really had anything that I felt like I'd want to see every day on my body. I had a cat that was very special to me and I thought about getting her name tattooed on me but then I'm afraid that if I see it I'll get sad and miss her again when maybe I'm not in a place where I want to be emotional. I was at college in London UK in the early 90's, and one drunken night in the college bar I said 'I'm getting one tomorrow'. Waking up the next day I kind of regretted that, but, I went off to Kensington Market with a friend because I was going to keep to my word. I thought I'd start with a tiny little sun on my foot because...I'm a sun sign LOL!! It was the summer and a hot day and I stupidly wore Doctor Marten boots. I queued and it got to nearly 6pm. I was the last to go in. Two big guys were in there and I put my foot on his lap for him to do my foot. While he did my tattoo, another guy came in and took the largest brick of h*sh out of a safe and just waltzed out of there with it. It was the size of a house brick! Then, when the tattoo was finished it was triple the size I planned but was also too scared to say anything LOL!! I moved my foot from his lap and there was a big sweaty foot stain left behind and he said 'ew thanks for that'. I was so embarrassed. I then had to put my boot back on and hobble home LOL!! I felt very proud of myself though - felt very rock 'n' roll - and have always loved it since. When I went home that summer, I got off the train and just said 'hi Mum I have a tattoo'. I was dreading telling my parents so I just blurted it out - but they were fine actually. Dad looked at it and said 'oh, it looks like a circular saw'. LMAO! Thanks Dad! Great memories!!

Girl, you just boosted my confidence. I have 5 tats on my arms and wrists. Each one for a significant event in my life. Last year I turned 50. And had a 3 rd cancer diagnosis n had a mastectomy . 2 of my tats are for my previous diagnosis’s. ( sp). I was so on the fence about getting a 6th tat to celebrate my 3rd recovery from that bitch called cancer…. N after hearing you talk about starting your tat journey at 50 I’m so ready to get my next tattoo! I just need to find the right artist since I’m no longer in Brooklyn ( where I used to live). I think the way you say things like it’s not the end of the world Yes I was an alcoholic And yes I don’t drink no more Makes it’s so much easier to swallow that yes we can make mistakes and drink at certain periods of our lives and also we can stop and no shame about it because nobody is perfect and most ppl just judge us for drinking and on top of that we need to deal with our own shame so is like fuck

I got my first tattoo at 58 yrs! After living for 50 yrs in a toxic culture that told me "women shouldn't get tattoos," it felt liberating. 😤💪🏼💃🏻
