I'm on a fixed income so it's very difficult for me to make any kind of meaningful financial contribution. Having said that I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate these lessons. What goes around comes around. You're the best. Thanks man. :)
I've been looking a lot at the shure 215's and the headphones youve mentioned. I have apple airpod pros that I use to mix but I just bought some drum triggers and want to be able to hear them in my garage when i play so I'm trying to find decent headphones to listen to the triggers. Would you think one is better than the other?
This video made me emotional. After struggling trying to learn Ableton, starting and stopping and starting again, for years... Turns out there is software that basically writes the drum part for you... So you can concentrate only on being creative, and telling it what exactly you want. As if you had a producer at your beck and call at all times. Thank you Band Guide and thank you Apple and Garage Band!
WAYY more informative than most of the other tutorials out there- your knowledge as a drummer puts you in a whole other class. You pack a lot of detail in yet its very easy to follow along what your doing. Really appreciate it.
Bruh, you helped me so much. I didn't know you could copy the drum part onto a software instrument track and it ACTUALLY sets the midi notes. Thats just awesome.
Glad I found this. I use the the arrangements like you do to split out the drummer however dropping that into a midi section is next level. Thanks for the great tip. I am going to check out the rest of your series now.
Hi Colin - I use scratch tracks for two reasons: as a guide track (the reason shown in your great video above) AND to help teach my band new songs. I do quick exports as .mp3s so they can listen to them wherever in advance of going into a professional studio or before rehearsal.
A year late to this video 😮 but it's extremely helpful since I'm an iOS Garageband guy and this applies to the drummers there as well. For me, I find the rhythm in a song can be (or is) the most integral part of what reels you in when you first hear a recording. Now, I must go experimenting! Thanks 👍🏻😎
Thank you so much, this is exactly what I needed! I already new how to write my own software drumtracks, but could NOT get the auto-drummer to do quite what I wanted. Now I know!
Wow, this is an awesome tutorial. I had no idea that the drum section was so powerful and customisable. Thanks for sharing and for your commitment and enthusiasm.
This is superb! Exactly what I wanted, have always struggled with fitting drum parts to a song, you've now given me the answer! Will definitely be downloading the guide! Thanks a million for sharing, very much appreciated. 😎😎😎
Lucky the GarageBand Drummer's tempo matched what you're guitar/vocal track so nicely. When I record guitar and vocals, then try to add a drum track it is never even close. Even if I try to use the keyboard to drum, GB keeps adjusting it so it does not fit the song I am writing. Grrr.
I feel your pain! SUPER important to record to the metronome from the beginning. It means you have to figure out the tempo for your song from the start- which is frustrating, but will save SO many headaches down the road. You can just listen to your current recording and search "tap tempo" on google and go to one of their sites to just tap the tempo of the song you recorded and it will give you the bpm to set in GB. Hope this helps!
Hello there! Thank you very much for such a cool video series. I just love it :3 I'm a completely beginner in the music production, but I really looking into the house and techno. Would someone will be able to recommend any drummer and/or drummer kit which is good to start using for such music genres?
It's funny because I'm a drummer before my other instruments and I have trouble getting 'Drummer' to do the drum fills I want .I often end up using finger drums to create drum fills lol. I'm sure this'll hope Cheers Colin!
Great video series. Someone posted about it in one of the guitar groups. Do you cover the "follow" function for the drummer anywhere? I've had trouble getting that sorted out and thought one of your vids might cover it. So far I haven't found it. Either way, thanks for these!
Thanks, man! I haven't. I find it to be hit or miss with most things. But one trick my bandmate uses with it is that he'll actually tap out the rhythm he wants on his guitar strings and uses that as a guide track to get the drums in the ballpark he's looking for
Is it possible to paste in an audio file, a guitar part I recorded on my phone mic, and place it in a software instrument track for it to create midi notes from which to allow the inbuilt percussion to generate a suitable rhythm?
to do some of the things you do would virtually impossible for me, but would you be kind enough to tell if you can use the drums with a basic guitar rhythm ive been trying for years and still don't know how to do it im all over the place, I need to be able to find a beat that I like with the right rhythm tempo just with guitar nothing else is that possible 🙏I just can't do I feel like smashing the computer up
So 4 minutes in you say push E to bring up editing window. I can’t find that on my g band/iPad, so was bit lost after that…I’ll check your previous post and see if it explains that step.
Still nothing on the automation in the midi instrument. You can change so much in there for the individual notes like velocity, expression, panning etc etc. really adds more texture into the drums.
I'm a multi-instrumentalist but drummer first and the drummer feature drive me bonkers I can't even get it to play a basic 'Rim Click' without it throwing in some daft bass d rum part or even a drum fill I don't want. What am I doing wrong?
Does anyone know how to drive the G.B. Drummer which previous track (when there is a bunch of them already on the project) should it follow when creating the drum parts?

THANKS A BUNCH I DONT KNOW WHY I WAITED SO LONG. I like your song style choices

Dude it’s so crazy how good this video actually is you answered all my questions
You've just doubled my knowledge of GarageBand drums in 25 minutes.
WAYY more informative than most of the other tutorials out there- your knowledge as a drummer puts you in a whole other class. You pack a lot of detail in yet its very easy to follow along what your doing. Really appreciate it.
Jason Sudeikis is an expert at Garage Band. Who knew? Learning a lot from you, bro!
O my god this is insane , never knew garage band had this much potential, thank you so much sir ,this is the most valuable video in the series so far
Me neither…I am floored
Bruh, you helped me so much. I didn't know you could copy the drum part onto a software instrument track and it ACTUALLY sets the midi notes. Thats just awesome.
GREAT EXPLAINING DUDE! MANY THANKS, COULD NOT FIGURE WHY DRUMS CHANGED WHEN YOU CUT IT! HOORAY!
Glad I found this. I use the the arrangements like you do to split out the drummer however dropping that into a midi section is next level. Thanks for the great tip.
I am going to check out the rest of your series now.
So much info packed into 20 minutes and every bit of it useful. Thank you!
excellent valuable advice - brilliant job!
Great help Colin 👏🏻
Great video! Changing the fills has been a challenge for me...not any more. Writing the midi parts was good info too.

As a songwriter, I hate programming drums, so this video is very helpful, thank you!
Another excellent tutorial thank you 👍
This is great content. Exactly what I needed to figure out how to use Drummer to create the drum parts I want for my projects. Thank you!

This is amazing. Never knew there was so much.
Another great tutorial, thanks Colin! Very helpful!
I’ve been watching your videos, and I must say you are a great teacher! Thank you so much. I will continue to be a subscriber.
Dude the copy and pasting the AI track to midi. Godlike. Thank you

I just realized there's an arrangement track... I've been using garage band for years. FML
This is awesome! I picked up your guide as well.
So good!

@@TheBandGuide Ok. Thanks for that tip!
Great video! Is there any way to use sounds from an external drumkit on a midi track created by the garageband drummer?
Dude made this Tom petty beat come alive. Thx for sharing. ❤
Sick! How can I get it to do a single stroke roll with kick? - also do you have a video on how you made the scratch track?
Very good video, really good content.
Dude this is so helpful !! thank you !
THANK YOU!
Epic editing!
Awesome video!!!! Thanks a lot! ;)
you made it look way much easier

Can you make a completely custom drum beat like on iPad and iPhone?
This is a GREAT video!! Thank you!!!!

Thank you.
I started to watch today
Hell yeah dude!
Is this the same for the iPad version of Garageband?
I'm a multi-instrumentalist but drummer first and the drummer feature drive me bonkers I can't even get it to play a basic 'Rim Click' without it throwing in some daft bass d rum part or even a drum fill I don't want. What am I doing wrong?
Is there an easy way to add a bar to the beginning of a track?
Does anyone know how to drive the G.B. Drummer which previous track (when there is a bunch of them already on the project) should it follow when creating the drum parts?
Hi, thanks for the videos..on my garageband the "Custom" option does not appears..should it be activated somewhere? thanks
What if you have a 7 or 8 minute song??
This video shows its private? Do you think you might know what the problem is?
"Cool sound, not for this track." ...my thinking sometimes it was perfect tone
First bro
This is so exactly what I was looking for to get our recordings started 🫶🏻
Awesome!!! A million thanks 🙏
Super helpful. Thank you
