  • I bought two of them, one on each side of the house.
They both work identical and both collect very little water.

I bought this but have not installed it. This confirms my concerns. Thanks for doing this.

Thank you for posting this - I was prepared to buy this product. Think I'll "by-pass" getting it.
Also - surprised to hear several posters saying you installed this improperly. Uh... it doesn't appear too complicated; just put it on your downspout and it should work! This isn't a rocket booster.

Accurate review. I put the diverter's hose in one bucket. I put another under the downspout. During a mild rain the ratio was terrible. MAYBE 1/4 of the water was diverted. Sending them back.

I agree with this review. I had to seal the two piece design because it would overflow at the seam if the rain was heavy.

I replied to your comment on my video. Then watched your video... here's your issue; your Oatey is small pipe configuration, which is oppositely fixed from mine unit. So, water shouldn't bubble up over that rim at all. This makes me think you have some sort of a blockage. Then I saw how you connected the Oatey pipe to the Aggie Cube. Your Oatey pipe fits snuggly in the cube with a seal. You are likely having pressure issues. There's no where for forced air to go, but back out the Oatey collection tube where the water should be coming in. Causing bubbles and forcing water back out. Create a screened vent at the top of your tank and it will fill up as it should.

No blockage. As far as I know, size is universal.
There is no seal, just two pieces come together, that's all.
I can hear most of the water is bypassing even if it doesn't rain heavy. That tells me its not very efficient and explains why I get little water.
I would consider possibility of a bad installation or some other factors but I see this same behavior on the other side of the house.
That's my experience with it, what else can I say. I didn't everything by the book it came with.

@@tonycstech I don't mean to be rude, but there's nothing wrong with the product. Your video says it all... there's nowhere for air to escape as water comes in, but back out the Oatey tube. Your installation is visibly flawed in your video. It looks sealed, but even if it's not, a wet surface would seal it. The Oatey System is not "complete junk." Your design work is flawed. If you make a vent at the top of your cube that allows air to leave as water enters the cube, screen it to keep bugs out of course, you'll solve the problem and the cube will fill up quickly.

    • @tonycstech
      @tonycstech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@nadamsga there was no obstruction. The pipe was sitting outside of the tank, not even inserted all the way and you could see how little water was getting through.
If there are different models of this I don't know, I was reviewing this particular one.
I even tried to separate the two halfs or get them completely closed together. Didn't notice the difference. Water would overflow if it rains heavily and little output in either case.
This is my experience with this unit. Someone else may have the same experience.
If I find a solution, I'll be sure to address it. What I tried so far didn't work and it's getting annoying at the point to be honest.

@@tonycstech I installed one of these on a gutter and it fills three 100 gallon tanks fast.. I had the same problem your showing with the leak and I used a sealer and fixed it. There maybe something to what another poster was saying about venting the air. I only say that because I cut the downspout off above it about a foot and installed a leaf eater, so I have an open pipe that allows the water to fall on top of the leaf eater and catch leaves and shingle gravel so its venting the diverter by proxy. What I did see as a problem that isn't really talked about is an open system (garbage can style barrels) vs sealed. An open system leaks when the water level gets to the top of your barrel and doesn't allow the water to back up in the tube and fill the inner reservoir to divert the water down the pipe once you barrel is full. There's a red plug that's supposed to come with the diverter that you put in to stop the water flow once your barrels are full.. I didn't have one in my box when I opened it and the instructions are spotty. Sealed system it looks like it work from the videos I have seen, an open system? ya... I dont trust that plug, I didnt get one with my purchase and.... I'm just going to install a shut off valve.
Other than that? I'm not sure why your not catching a bunch of water BUT for 20 bucks and the amount of time it took to fill three 100 gallon tanks? this thing did a great job.Yes I did caulk that union where the parts come together so maybe that's why? A good sealer or JB weld may be your friend here (stay away from duct tape and bailing wire JB weld is the shit)...

Tony Nameless, Sorry to tell you this but your rain diverter is not installed correctly. I have two of these units and they work great. Fills up my rain barrels far more quickly than I'd expected. Very pleased with them. Check and follow the instructions carefully. Success to you. 🙂

I just bought one of these, then found this review. Upon examining my parts in the box, I could potentially see getting the reviewers results IF the upper down spout is inserted too far into the upper part of the diverter. If it is inserted near the outside catch ring, I can totally see how you would get this result. Remember, this is theory as I have not installed mine yet but will do so.

Put a glove or a balloon on the opening on the way down with a little bit of the slot left over. Now it won’t depend on surface tension.

If there is a huge amount of rain at one time, will the diverted handle it or will the majority of the rain bypass the diverted and go straight down the downspout? I’m not collecting rain, just want to divert from the underground system to the driveway.

    • @alexchopper7997

As he mentioned, it’s about 75% going down the gutter and diverted collects about 25%. That’s true for mine too.
