edayan is a really great artist. he really stood out the most among the other legendary capcom artists in my opinion because his drawings have a lot of volume and weight to them.
And Bass (Forte) from Megaman as well.

American people tend to have a certain accent and back when I was living in japan, I actually used to make fun of people who would start talking to me in English because they thought I was American by answering in broken Japanese in an American accent lol
The voice acting and the loading art shots are so underrated for such an obscure game at the time. Tons of fan service when anime wasn’t easy to find during that time. I remember recording all the narrated scenes with Tiffany (on cassette lol) cuz I loved her voice!

The Japanese versions of these games had way more interesting create-a-character modes (Visual Novel for the first 2 on PS1, Boardgame/Visual Novel for Project Justice)

This game is still actually extremely fun, even until now. I mean the artstyle was and music was awesome. The only drawback when comparing to the current era, is just simply the graphics only and that's about it.

Batsu's voice actor, Nobuyuki Hiyama, didn't just voice Link and Nightmare, but Joe Higashi up until KOF 14, Hiei in Yuyu Hakusho, Dimitri in Darkstalkers, Ikkaku in Bleach, Sanageyama in Kill La Kill, and dozens more. Hyo's voice actor, Toshikazu Shiozawa, was another fixture in the industry for a long time. This was actually one of his last roles because he passed away in 2000.
I remember Rival Schools. Love that game.
Fun fact: Roy is voiced by the same guy who did Lee Chaolan from Tekken (5-7).

I love how Akira's alt team super move. A straight reference from Neon Genesis Evangelion when Shinji and Asuka learn to synchronize to defeat the Angel. This game is so damn fun.

Probably not since it did not pan out well for Darkstalkers and it seems the only one people care about re-releasing over an over is 3rd Strike.
There are few simple things Capcom can do to spice up a rerelease.
1. Release Rival School and Project Justice together.
2. Add the create a student feature, Visual Novel, and board game elements translated.
3. Replace the Rival Schools character models with the Rival School character models.
This game was fun. Fighting games these days are way more serious.

I don't know that that's true, they were just different. There's great music in some modern games fire emblem echoes for example is absolutely incredible musically. For a remake of an nes game they knock the music out of the park, check out the song twilight of the gods from that ost

The Soulsborne games, the Bravely Default games and Hollow Knight are just a few examples of games with music that is better than a lot of music from the games of older generations.

I remember how hard this game was on the hardest settings, ESPECIALLY on the Evolution disc. Speaking of that disc, playing thought it 50 million times to unlock all of the edit characters were some of my favorite memories as a kid. My homie would come over and We'd play that shit over and over and over to unlock everyone and all the females alternate costumes and special moves. SUCH FUN!!! Thanks for revisiting this classic. Also Tiffany has some cool damaging ground combos with her punch moves. Use those more lol.
I still have my Rival Schools for my PS1 and Project Justice for my Dreamcast and play them to this day. Glad to be put on this the amazing gemstone when i was a kid. The Capcom Golden Days...

God, Rival Schools is my absolute favorite Capcom fighting game and I really wish it could be revisited for the current generation. I don't even have enough friends to really play fighting games with but I'd buy it up in a heartbeat anyway.

My favorite thing about rival schools was you had so much meter, staking supers and being able to just spam those supers & team up attacks was incredible!

Man, I remember firing up this game only to watch that sick-ass intro. The song is called "Atsui kodou" if you are interested. Also, got all the stories with their good endings. I had an OBSESSION with this game, I tell you (so hyped up for Akira in SFV...).
P.S.: There was another animated scene at the end where you watched all the characters having a picnic together that was freaking wholesome and a good cap for the game theme.
P.P.S.: Who had the strongest attac in the game? Maybe the final boss with the live katana? Nope, he was third. The giant sumo wrestler that picks you up by the leg and slams you into the ground several times? Close, but no cigar, he was second. The school nurse giving you a shiatsu massage? Yep, that's it, a f*****g massage. Man, I loved Kyoko...

You know, I am a little weird on a re-release. Because so much has changed in tech, and RS was a tech showcase, I feel that you can't just slap an HD filter on this game, put this on the internet and call it a day. It needs to be rebuild, you might be able to get away with that with Project Justice, but RS it's so old and rough that I feel like this is impossible.

That is the other odd thing, I really, really like the look of Project Justice but the game itself is kind of meh and I am not a big fan of the combo system (which isn't much from RS proper, but after the one game you would have thought that they would have done more... nope).
While RS is some Playstation/N64 early muddy, polygon madness, the game system is almost divine in it's simplicity... and really, really rough which is a good place for a capcom game, believe or not.
@@DuvJones I remember having a lot of fun playing Project Justice at parties with people who didn't know much about playing fighting games. All they knew was when the meter was fun they just had to pull one of the shoulder triggers and a team super would happen. They really enjoyed it.

Both are fun games to just play around with, as I said the only reason I am not so hot on PJ combo system is that it's just RS's with very little new to it.
That said, hitting buttons in both games is something of a joy... the system was really, really simple, and honestly that was the great thing about it. It just a shame that I expected more than just the same with PJ, but that is the only knock I have against it (which isn't one to be honest).

Best thing about this game was the bonus disc which had a couple of pretty fun mini-games, and all the extra versions of the characters and artwork and stuff to unlock. It was ridiculous the amount of content there was, it was ace.

I played this so much..
I absolutely had to buy the Capcom art coffee table book when I learned of it.
I have many fond memories of this game. I bought a copy again back in 2014 for like £20 on ebay. Maybe it's because I have the U.K version but my version has a different character select screen, and it doesn't have the intros at the beginning.
There is 2 discs and each one has a different character selection. This is the arcade disc which shows each characters school in the character selection. This disc has the proper story mode whereas the evolution disc only has good and bad endings and no other story scenes.
man, i played the shit out of this game in the arcade, it was so cool. all it was missing was this anime intro.
i wish Capcom had translated the Evolution Disc from Nekketsu Seishun Nikki 2.
